A G Aniswal is a Senior Lecturer at the School of Humanities, Universiti Sains Malaysia. She joined the School of Humanities in 2000. Prior to that appointment, she taught English for Specific Purposes at the Centre of Languages and Translation from 1987. She was also briefly involved with the Centre’s BA [Honours] in Translation and Interpretation. Her PhD research was on the Language of Advertising. It was a constrastive study of advertising texts in British English, Malaysian English and Malay. She was the Programme Chairperson of Malay Linguistics, Translation and Interpretation from 2001 to 2004 at the School of Humanities. She introduced the MA Translation Studies in 2003. She has taught undergraduate and postgraduate courses in Malay Linguistics and Translation Studies. The courses she taught included Lexicography, Terminology, Introduction to Translation, Translation Methodology and Sociolinguistics, Culture and Ideology. She has successfully supervised PhD translation studies on figurative language, mainly on metaphors, in Arabic and Persian texts. Aniswal currently teaches fulltime on the Malay Linguistics undergraduate and postgraduate programmes. Her current area of interests are Cognitive Semantics, Critical Discourse Analysis and Etymology. Her current research is on the Semiotics of Advertising Texts in a Colonial Newspaper in Sabah.
