A teaching staff at the University of Rwanda. He completed a joint Masters's studies; MSc. Biodiversity Conservation and Natural Resources Management (University of Rwanda) and MSc. BioGeosciences (University of Koblenz-Landau, Germany), this latter under the auspices of Erasmus+ scholarship. At the CoEB, Mapendo is the team leader for the Biodiversity data management team with tasks to mobilize, manage, and publish biodiversity information to avail this to the country.
Mapendo is a trained young scientist in the field of Herpetology where his research interest falls. He works on the Bioacoustic assessment of Anurans (Frogs and Toads) in Rwanda. Currently, Mapendo is part of the core technical team for Rwanda's Wetlands Ecological Integrity Assessment Project, under the Albertine Rift Conservation Society. At the University of Rwanda, Mapendo assists in Teaching Biodiversity conservation, Ecology, Forest Landscape restoration, Forest ecology, and Wildlife Management for undergraduate students.
