FUTURE PROJECTS

3D printed models for teaching bone lesions in stomatology

The study of maxillomandibular bone pathologies can be limited due to the limited information obtained clinically, revealing the need for tools that assist in the visualization of pathological anatomy for diagnosis. Experience with maxillomandibular bone pathology is often limited to traditional two-dimensional (2D) teaching methods and data from imaging modalities, such as computed tomography, X-ray and magnetic resonance imaging. 3D printing technology is a tool that allows models to be made from real pathologies, with the ability to proportional the spatial dimension in different sections and capable of physical manipulation and practical analysis, providing knowledge of the different peculiarities that characterize each lesion. This resource can enrich learning by increasing the understanding of bone lesions, as well as the practical engagement of undergraduate students, obtaining a possible gain in teaching.
