FUTURE PROJECTS

Enclosed Landscapes – The Military Presence in the City of Rio de Janeiro: The Case of Guaratiba

This research aims to investigate the phenomenon of military areas as enclosed landscapes, seeking to understand the effects of the occupation and urban management practices of the Armed Forces on the city and landscape of Rio de Janeiro. Through a case study of the military area of Guaratiba, the study seeks to identify the layers that compose this landscape beyond its military character, to reveal interpretations of different agents regarding this space, and to critically reflect on the role that military areas play — or may play — in the construction of the contemporary city.
