The emergence of appropriation—the process by which individuals and organizations internalize, adapt, and make meaningful use of future-oriented knowledge—is a critical yet understudied dimension of Strategic Foresight practice. This project investigates the enablers and barriers that shape appropriation across different foresight settings, from organizational planning to territorial and policy-oriented futures work. Through a mixed-method approach combining literature review, expert interviews, and analysis of foresight interventions, the study seeks to identify the cognitive, cultural, procedural, and institutional factors that influence whether foresight insights translate into learning, commitment, and actionable transformation. By mapping these dynamics, the project aims to advance a more practice-oriented understanding of how foresight becomes embedded in decision-making systems.
