Biography
Alexis Balmont is a Full Researcher at the The Chinese University of Hong Kong, where he specializes in medieval Chinese Christianity and Sino-Christian studies. He holds dual PhDs from Université Paris Sciences et Lettres (EPHE-PSL) and the Pontifical Oriental Institute (Rome), focusing on the Syriac Christian communities that established themselves in Tang China between the 7th and 10th centuries. His research examines the Chinese Christian texts from this period, combining philological analysis, historical contextualization, and theological interpretation. He works with medieval Chinese sources alongside Syriac, Sogdian, and other Central Asian Christian traditions to understand how Christianity adapted to Chinese cultural and religious contexts.
