Biography

His research experience includes participation in the Comcaác Project (2014), focused on obesity and diabetes prevalence in the Comcaác community, and the PIMUNIC Project (2024), an intervention program in Comcaác schoolchildren led by Dr. Yazmín Hugues, where he was responsible for dietary analysis. Currently, his doctoral work evaluates the impact of national strategies on health indicators and healthy habits among Indigenous schoolchildren in Sonora. In recognition of his contributions, he was awarded first place in the 2024 Health Research Awards, receiving the “Dr. José Miró Arvella Prize” in the area of Public Health, Environmental Health, and Educational Research.

Education

José Manuel Moreno Abril, MSc, is currently pursuing a PhD in Sciences at the Centro de Investigación en Alimentación y Desarrollo (CIAD), Mexico. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Nutritional Sciences from Universidad de Sonora and a Master’s degree in Sciences from CIAD, where he also completed his thesis titled “Association of the Dietary Inflammatory Index with Obesity in Indigenous Adult Population of Sonora” under the supervision of Dr. Julián Esparza.
