Biography

She has led several major and minor research projects, including an ICSSR–IMPRESS-funded study on the transgender community in Tamil Nadu and a collaborative research project with LIBA on the socio-economic impact on migrant workers. Currently, she is involved in a major institutional research project on substance misuse and abuse among the youth. Her scholarly contributions span gender, marginalization, digital culture, migration, and youth behavior. Her research excellence has been further recognized with awards from the National Foundation for Entrepreneurship Development (NFED), Coimbatore, and Skyline University College, Sharjah. Also, she has received Best Faculty Advisor Awards from Loyola College units such as Friends of Police, Outreach, and Mentoring Facilitation Committee.

Education

Dr. J. Vanitha is a distinguished academician and researcher with an M.A., M.Phil., and Ph.D. in Sociology and an M.Sc. in Psychology. She currently serves as the Head of the Department of Sociology, and Director of the Centre for the Study of Social Exclusion and Inclusive Policy (CSSEIP) at Loyola College, Chennai, which celebrates its Centenary Year in 2025.
