Biography

Maido Merisalu is a materials scientist and founder/CEO of Captain Corrosion OÜ, a University of Tartu spin-off specialising in corrosion, materials science, and nanotechnology. He is also affiliated with the University of Tartu, where he has worked in thin film technology and materials research. His expertise includes surface engineering, corrosion testing, and advanced coating technologies such as Atomic Layer Deposition (ALD) and Plasma Electrolytic Oxidation (PEO). He has led the development of hybrid coating systems and materials characterization solutions for industrial and research applications. In this project, he contributes expertise in advanced surface engineering, focusing on hybrid coating architectures enabling controlled and tunable degradation behaviour of magnesium alloys for aerospace and biomedical applications.
