Three Phase BES Supported Grid Interfaced PV-VSC with Synchronization Capability Sunil Kumar Pandey, Bhim Singh, Anjeet Verma 2022 IEEE IAS Global Conference on Emerging Technologies Globconet 2022, 2022 This BES (Battery Energy Storage) supported PV-VSC (Photovoltaic-Voltage Source Converter) system interfaced to three phase utility network with synchronization and desynchronization capability is investigated at variable grid power mode of grid tied mode, prespecified grid power mode of grid interfaced mode, standalone mode, variable irradiance and load dynamics. This system functions in the utility network synchronized mode and standalone mode to ensure electricity to critical local loads without failure and mitigates harmonics in grid currents, while the power is available from at least one energy source. The implemented system supports the utility network at the peak load hours beside feeds the local loads, enhances the grid current power quality, and regulates the PCC (Point of Common Coupling) voltage near to reference voltage in an islanded mode, thus, ensures effective usages of PV panel, battery, and the VSC, which results in a reduced payback period of VSC and BES. The transition mode control guarantees seamless synchronization and desynchronization of the BES supported PV system with a battery connected at DC link to/from the grid according to the IEEE-1547 standard, and thus, protects the sensitive local loads from the load voltage transients. The frequency adaptive self tuning filter algorithm is utilized to estimate the peak magnitude of the fundamental frequency component of local nonlinear load current to achieve the harmonics free grid current following the IEEE-519 standard.
Single Phase PV-BES-Small Hydro System for Critical Loads with Synchronization Capability Sunil Kumar Pandey, Bhim Singh 2021 IEEE 6th International Conference on Computing Communication and Automation Iccca 2021, 2021 This photovoltaic (PV)-battery-small hydro system secures electricity to dedicated loads at the presence of at least one energy source. A new control algorithm is used to estimate harmonic free load current amplitude for single phase PV-BES-small hydro system with synchronization capability. This ensures sinusoidal utility network current, while nonlinear load is connected at PCC. The preset utility grid power mode and variable utility network power mode efficiently manage the power leveling of utility grid, thus, support the utility grid at peak load hours. The ancillary functions of load current harmonics compensation, and DSTATCOM (Distribution Static Compensator) operation enhances the utility of the VSC (Voltage Source Converter). The voltage control at an islanded mode, and the mode transition control ensure transient free switching between the modes, thus, protect the sensitive load. The single point operation of the hydro generator enhances the efficiency of the induction generator. This system response in utility grid tied mode, an islanded mode, and hydro power generator mode at presence of BES (Battery Energy Storage) and absence of BES is adhered the IEEE-1547 standard of DES integration.
Robust Frequency Cascaded Adaptive Complex Filter Control for Grid Interactive PV System Sunil Kumar Pandey, Shailendra Kumar, Bhim Singh IEEE Transactions on Industry Applications, 2021 This article deals with a robust frequency cascaded adaptive complex filter (ACF) control for the grid interactive photovoltaic (PV) system. The incorporated control algorithm rejects lower order harmonics too unlike the conventional quadrature signal generators; thus, this control algorithm extracts accurate fundamental frequency orthogonal components of load current. The voltage source converter (VSC) acts as a distribution static compensator (DSTATCOM) when generation from the PV array is unavailable, besides injecting active power in the distribution network, and reducing reactive power loading on the utility network by mitigating harmonics in presence of generation from the PV array. Thus, the VSC utility is enhanced. This PV system performance is robust against the weak utility grid parameter variation and at load perturbation. The presented algorithm improves transient response at dynamic loading and irradiance change. The harmonic contents in distribution network voltage and utility current are reduced within the IEEE-519 standard.
Grid Tied PV-BES System with Multitasking Voltage Source Converter Sunil Kumar Pandey, Bhim Singh 2020 IEEE 5th International Conference on Computing Communication and Automation Iccca 2020, 2020 This paper deals with a grid integrated PV (Photovoltaic)-BES (Battery Energy Storage) system ensuring the interruption free power to critical loads with mode transfer capability and power quality enhancement even at distorted grid voltage condition. This PV-BES system feeds pre-specified power to the distribution network at the presence of the generation from PV panel and BES at peak load hours, stores energy in BES during light load hours, thus enhances the utility grid stability and benefits the consumer. The modified first order filter (MFOF) based control, which estimates the amplitude of fundamental frequency load current, and the grid voltage in-phase unit template is used to synchronize the PV-BES system to the distribution network in absence of either generation from the PV panel or BES at the grid tied mode. The load voltage magnitude and nature are regulated by the voltage control in a standalone mode operation. The bidirectional DC-DC converter allows a bidirectional flow of power, thus it enables either charging or discharging of the battery according to generation from the PV panel in the grid integrated mode, and provides an uninterrupted power to critical loads in absence of the PV generation and/or the grid. The synchronization mode control is utilized to transfer from the grid tied mode to islanded mode and vice versa.
Battery supported grid tied PV system with CFDBPF based control Algorithm Sunil Kumar Pandey, Bhim Singh 2020 IEEE International Conference on Computing Power and Communication Technologies Gucon 2020, 2020 This work deals with the grid tied PV (Photovoltaic) -BES (Battery Energy Storage) system, which ensures an uninterrupted power to the dedicated loads with seamless transfer capability and power quality enhancement features at distorted grid voltage conditions. The PV-BES system supports the grid during peak load hours, and charges the BES at light load conditions such as in night hours. The centre frequency digital bandpass filter (CFDBPF) based algorithm, and the grid voltage in-phase unit template are utilized to control the PV-BES system in the battery charging mode, and to address the grid power quality concerns. The tuning of parameters, is not required in this control, and it enables easy implementation. The load voltage magnitude and nature are regulated by the voltage control in islanded mode of operation. The DC link is supported by a battery, which provides uninterrupted power to dedicated loads in absence of PV panel power generation and the utility. The synchronization mode control ensures smooth transfer from the synchronized mode to standalone mode and vice versa.
Frequency-Adaptive complex-coefficient filterbased control for grid-integrated PV system Sunil Kumar Pandey, Bhim Singh, Gaurav Modi Iet Generation Transmission and Distribution, 2020 This work deals with a frequency‐adaptive complex‐coefficient filter‐based control for three‐phase grid supportive double‐stage photovoltaic (PV) system. This control eliminates harmonic components, DC offset at unbalanced loads and robust against phase frequency shift and on utility grid voltage disturbances. It uses harmonic‐free positive sequence current components to generate sinusoidal reference currents without amplitude scaling. Moreover, tuning of parameters is not required due to the absence of gain parameters. This system responds quickly to balance the grid currents under unbalanced load currents, mitigates load current harmonics while feeding active power to the distribution network. The presented topology has enhanced the voltage source converter (VSC) utility, particularly in the absence of PV array generation, thus, VSC payback period is reduced. The PV dynamic term is utilized to enhance VSC input voltage profile, to avoid overshoots and undershoots in grid currents, and to mitigate transients in PV array current under varying irradiance. The behaviors under dynamic state and steady state of the presented system are validated under varying irradiance, load currents unbalance and grid voltage disturbances through simulated and test results. The power quality concerns are addressed, by achieving harmonic contents in grid currents below to 5% in accordance to the IEEE‐519 standard.
Hybrid DSC with compensation capability based control for grid integrated SPV system Sunil Kumar Pandey, Bhim Singh Piicon 2020 9th IEEE Power India International Conference, 2020 This paper presents a hybrid delayed signal cancellation (DSC) with phase error and scaling error compensator based control algorithm for a single phase double stage grid tied solar photovoltaic (PV) system. The first stage of hybrid DSC based control is an adaptive DSC operator, which mitigates the harmonics. Two similar nonadaptive DSC operators are used to improve the filtering capability of nonadaptive operators. This control algorithm overcomes the draw-backs of both the adaptive and nonadaptive operators and there is no phase error, and scaling in the amplitude of filtered current under load perturbations, and grid frequency drift conditions. This control extracts the orthogonal load current components, to acquire the fundamental frequency sinusoidal component of grid current. This grid tied PV system works well even in cloudy session. The utilization of the VSC is increased, and an additional device is not required to improve the power quality of the utility grid current under distorted load current. Thus, the VSC payback period is reduced. The DSTATCOM (Distribution Static Compensator) to PV system and PV system to DSTATCOM mode of operations are demonstrated via experimental results. The THDs (Total Harmonics Distortions) in the grid current is meeting the limits of an IEEE-519 and an IEEE-929 Power Quality (PQ) standards.

It acts as a distribution static compensator (DSTATCOM) when generation from PV array is unavailable, besides injecting active power in the distribution network, and reducing reactive power loading on the utility network by mitigating harmonics in presence of generation from PV array. The proposed algorithm improves transient response at dynamic loading and irradiance change. The harmonic contents in distribution network voltage and utility current are achieved within the IEEE-519 standard.
LCO-FLL control for single-phase utility integrated single-stage solar PV system Sunil Kumar Pandey, Shailendra Kumar, Bhim Singh Iet Renewable Power Generation, 2018 This study presents a limit cycle oscillator‐frequency locked loop (LCO‐FLL) control for single‐phase utility integrated single‐stage photovoltaic (PV) system. The proposed topology increases the utility of the voltage‐source converter (VSC), particularly in the absence of PV generation. It has the potential to load harmonics current mitigation. It estimates harmonic free load current accurately with low computational requirement due to the absence of cumbersome mathematical algorithm and transformation techniques. It provides reactive power compensation, both in the absence and the presence of PV generation, improves transient response during dynamics in load and varying irradiance conditions. The total harmonic distortions of utility current and utility voltage, compliance the limit of the IEEE‐519 standard. The proportional–integral (PI) regulator regulates the DC‐link voltage of VSC input to the reference DC‐link voltage. The incremental conductance‐based technique derives the reference DC‐link voltage. The dynamic behaviour of the LCO‐FLL‐based control is improved using a feed‐forward loop for the PV power sharing. It also reduces loading on the PI controller. Test results demonstrate satisfactory performance of LCO‐FLL‐based control.
