Microforming for the production of microscale components: A study on the effect of forming dies in microextrusion of metals Karthikeyan S, Karthikeyan Aruchamy, Jeyaprakasam S, Muthu Pandian P, P V CH R K Santosh, Palaniswamy D, Rahul Gujar, Sethubathi Jagadeesan Journal of Micromanufacturing, 2026 Micro products play a critical role in various fields, ranging from consumer electronics like watches and cell phones to advanced medical devices. These intricate parts cannot be manufactured using conventional methods, making microforming a viable solution for producing such components. The goal of the current study is to examine how various forming die conditions affect the production of microparts, namely through the metal microextrusion method. Three distinct die conditions were evaluated: dry die condition, lubricated die condition, and diamond-like carbon (DLC) coated die condition. To demonstrate the practical aspects of microforming, two different metals were employed in the study, with a micropin chosen as the representative micropart for investigation. During the microextrusion tests, various parameters were recorded, including force-displacement response, hardness, and surface roughness of the microextrudates. In comparison to uncoated and lubricated dies, the results show that using a DLC-coated die greatly decreased the extrusion force and enhanced the micropins’ surface polish. Additionally, the greatest pin length produced by the DLC-coated die was 7.9 and 12.7 mm for Cu and Al billets, while the uncoated die yielded a shorter pin length of 5.2 and 7.6 mm. However, the hardness of the microextrudates was found to be higher with the uncoated die, showing a trade-off between surface finish and material hardness.
Advanced chalcogenide Ga₂S₃ coatings for reducing reflective loss and boosting efficiency in silicon photovoltaics , R. M. Reddy, J. A. Prakash, , A. Tonk, , S. Karvendhan, , G. Sivaraman, , D. K. Patel, , S. P. Dillibabu, , S. Karthikeyan, , T. Thirugnanasambandham, and Chalcogenide Letters, 2025 The current situation necessitates advancements in renewable energy as an alternative for conventional energy sources. Reflection loss in solar cells is a contributing factor to diminish the power conversion efficiency, which can be reduced by employing antireflective coatings. The current investigation focuses on improvement in photocurrent generation of monocrystalline silicon solar cells by employing Gallium sulfide (Ga2S3) as anti-reflective coatings (ARC). The RF sputter coating method has been used for Ga2S3 deposition at different coating durations (10, 20, 30, and 40 minutes). The transmittance, reflectance, I-V characteristics, electrical properties, and thermal behaviour of the Ga2S3 coatings on m-Si cells were analysed to determine the influence of the coatings. The incorporation of Ga2S3 led to enhanced power conversion efficiencies (PCEs) from the 16.38% to 21.80% under open conditions and from 18.58% to 24.33% under closed conditions. The Ga2S3 coating thickness for the GS3 sample was measured at 1.440 µm using FESEM. The minimum optical reflectance of 6.56% and maximum transmittance of 93.44% were achieved after 30 minutes of coating (GS3) within the 300 to 1200 nm wavelength range. The minimum electrical resistivity of a GS3 coated sample was measured as 5.33×10−3 Ω-cm. Ga2S3 coatings serve to reduce reflected losses and improve surface passivation.
Boosting power efficiency in polycrystalline silicon solar cells: antimony selenide sputter coating with advanced optical, electrical, and thermal insights , R. M. Reddy, S. Chirag, , T. Anu, , A. R. Venkataramanan, , S. Karthikeyan, , D. Palaniswamy, , E. Venugopal Goud, , N. Dineshbabu, , T. Thirugnanasambandham, and Chalcogenide Letters, 2025 Solar cells can transform light energy into electrical energy, possibly removing the need for fossil fuel energy resources. Reflection loss in solar cells is a factor contributing to diminished power conversion efficiency, which can be solved through using antireflective coatings on the cell surface. The present research primarily focuses on the development and application of antireflection coatings on the top surface of silicon solar cells. Sb2Se3 was deposited over multi-crystalline Si cells with different durations from 15 to 60 minutes. The influence of thin film Sb2Se3 coated cells was investigated through optical, current, voltage and thermal study. The ideal thickness of the Sb2Se3 coating was determined to be 1.336 µm for SB3 sample using FESEM. The lowest optical reflectance of 5.8% and highest absorbance of 93.4% was reached after 45 minutes of coating (SB3) across the 300 to 1200 nm wavelength band. The minimum electrical resistivity of a 45-minute coated Sb2Se3 sample was determined as 5.09×10−3 Ω-cm. The improved power conversion efficiency of Sb2Se3 coated solar cell under open sunlight setting was increased from 15.31 to 21.18% particularly for SB3 solar cell sample, which optimize maximum transfer of incident photons into the solar cell. From the observed results, it indicates that Sb2Se3 nanocoating has identified to be ideal antireflection coating material for polycrystalline silicon solar cells.
