Dr. Aisha Umar Adamu is a linguist specializing in nonverbal communication and sociolinguistics at Northwest University, Kano. She is the author of Nonverbal Communication in Hausa Society: An Introduction, the first book of its kind. Her research examines how gestures, facial expressions, and embodied practices reflect the cultural values of kunya (modesty) and girmamawa (respect) in gendered interaction and Hausa society. Her current work explores gesture transformation and change; particularly how evolving nonverbal practices embody cultural continuity and adaptation in Hausa communication.
