Harmonic Path Planning using Quarter-Sweep Boosted TOR Iterative Method Sumiati Suparmin, Andang Sunarto, Azali Saudi Journal of Advanced Research Design, 2025 This paper presents the study to examine the effectiveness of the application of Quarter Sweep Boosted TOR with the 9-Point Laplacian operator using the families of relaxation methods in the computation of Laplace equation solutions to obtain the harmonic potentials. This work is a continuation from the past study that applied the standard application 5-Point Laplacian to solve path planning issue which a mobile robot faces because of working in indoor environment. The robot can navigate from a given initial position to a goal position by following the safest path, ensuring it avoids any obstacles and minimizes the risk of collisions. By utilizing the equation of Laplace and computing the potential values’ distribution in the environments which have been simulated, the robot can determine the safest path that avoids obstacles which exists in the environment. This method ensures that the robot moves along a path where the potential for collisions is minimized. The findings confirm that QSBTOR outperforms Half Sweep Boosted TOR (HSBTOR) and Full Sweep Boosted TOR (FSBTOR). QSBTOR and HSBTOR show 73% and 50% reduction respectively, compared to FSBTOR in terms of computational complexity.
Efficient Application of Modified TOR Iterative Method with GPU Acceleration in Robotics and Image Processing Farhah Athirah Musli, Siti Hasnah Tanalol, Asni Tahir, Andang Sunarto, Azali Saudi Journal of Advanced Research Design, 2025 This paper presents the application of the Modified TOR (MTOR) method, implemented using CUDA, for solving Poisson's equation through the iterative Finite Difference (FD) method. The study aims to provide a detailed description of the MTOR method for solving Partial Differential Equations (PDEs) on both standard and rotated meshes, employing CUDA for parallel processing. The MTOR method uses a red-black ordering strategy during iteration; consequently, the calculation of red cells utilizes the updated values of their four neighbouring black cells, and vice versa. To evaluate the performance of these iterative methods, robot path planning and image blending problems were tested. Our results highlight the advantages of employing parallel methods on Graphics Processing Units (GPUs) in terms of iterations and computational time, compared to their sequential counterparts. In the path planning simulation, the parallel implementations exhibited over 20 times faster execution compared to their corresponding sequential versions. Similarly, in the image blending problem, the parallel implementations achieved more than a 6-fold improvement in speed compared to the sequential methods.
Implementation of the KSOR Method for Solving One-Dimensional Time-Fractional Parabolic Partial Differential Equations with the Caputo Finite Difference Scheme Title of Manuscript Mohd Usran Alibubin, Jumat Sulaiman, Fatihah Anas Muhiddin, Andang Sunarto Journal of Advanced Research in Applied Sciences and Engineering Technology, 2025 This study presents numerical solution of time-fractional linear parabolic partial differential equations (PDEs) using the Caputo finite difference scheme. The discretization process is based on the second-order implicit finite difference scheme and the Caputo fractional derivative operator. The resulting system of linear approximation equations is solved using the Kaudd Successive Over Relaxation (KSOR) iterative method. A comparison is made with the Gauss-Seidel (GS) iterative method through three numerical examples. The results demonstrate that the KSOR method requires fewer iterations and reduced computational time compared to the GS method.
QUARTER-SWEEP FINITE DIFFERENCE APPROXIMATION WITH THOMAS ALGORITHM FOR SOLVING NONLINEAR ADVECTION-DIFFUSION EQUATION Jackel Vui Lung Chew, Jumat Sulaiman, Andang Sunarto Asia Pacific Journal of Mathematics, 2025 . Solving nonlinear advection-diffusion equations efficiently is one of the challenging tasks in computational mathematics. These equations are commonly used to model transport phenomena such as fluid flow, heat transfer, and pollutant dispersion. Finite difference methods are widely applied for solving these equations. However, their application in multi-dimensional mathematical problems involves high computational complexity. To address this issue, this paper investigates the computational efficiency of the quarter-sweep finite difference approximation combined with the Thomas algorithm. The proposed numerical method utilises the quarter-sweep strategy to significantly reduce the number of computations required per iteration while maintaining numerical accuracy. Through extensive numerical experiments, the computational performance of the proposed method is carefully assessed by comparing it with the standard implicit finite difference method. The experimental results show that the proposed numerical method achieves higher computational efficiency while maintaining comparable numerical accuracy when it is compared to the standard implicit finite difference method. The reduction in computational load makes the proposed method particularly beneficial for large-scale simulations. The contribution of this research is the integration of the quarter-sweep strategy with the Thomas algorithm which offers an alternative numerical solution strategy for solving nonlinear advection-diffusion equations. This research has potential implications in fields such as fluid dynamics, environmental modelling, and engineering applications. Despite its advantages, this research is limited to one-dimensional problems. Future work will focus on extending the numerical solution strategy to higher-dimensional problems. The findings of this research contribute to the ongoing
ASSESSING FARMERS’ WELFARE IN BENGKULU PROVINCE THROUGH FARMERS’ TERM OF TRADE AND ZAKAT-BASED SOCIAL GROUP CLASSIFICATION Nonie Afrianty, Andang Sunarto, Jackel Vui Lung Chew, Nurlia Latifah Asia Pacific Journal of Mathematics, 2025 A. This study aims to assess the welfare of farmers in Bengkulu Province by employing farmers' term of trade and zakat-based social group classifications.A mixed-method approach is adopted, combining quantitative analysis using the ARIMA Box-Jenkins forecasting model on farmers' term of trade time series data from January 2021 to December 2023, and qualitative analysis based on zakat classification categories such as the wealthy (muzakki), the middle-income group, and the underprivileged (mustahik). The quantitative results show that the ARIMA (1,0,0) model is the most suitable for forecasting farmers' term of trade, with projected values for year 2024 ranging from 138.57 to 142.68.These projections suggest that farmers' purchasing power remains stable and falls within the surplus category. However, the qualitative results reveal that most farmers in Bengkulu Province are still classified as mustahik, signifying persistent welfare disparities and dependence on zakat. These findings highlight the critical need to strengthen the role of productive zakat and foster cross-sector collaboration as tools for empowering the agricultural economy. This study recommends that agricultural development policies should incorporate not only economic indicators but also socio-religious dimensions to achieve sustainable improvements in farmers' welfare.
Computational half-sweep explicit group Gauss–Seidel method with Caputo nonlocal arithmetic-mean approach for nonlinear time-fractional diffusion equation , M. U. Alibubin, J. Sulaiman, , F. A. Muhiddin, , A. Sunarto, and Mathematical Modeling and Computing, 2025 This paper introduces the half-sweep 4-Point Explicit Group Gauss–Seidel (HS4EGGS) method combined with a half-sweep Caputo nonlocal arithmetic-mean discretisation for solving nonlinear time-fractional diffusion equations (NTFDEs). Designed to enhance computational efficiency and accuracy, this approach minimizes iteration counts through a half-sweep iteration strategy and accurately represents memory and hereditary properties intrinsic to fractional derivatives. The HS4EGGS method significantly reduces computational costs while maintaining precision, making it particularly suited for large-scale problems. Numerical experiments compare HS4EGGS with FS4EGGS and FSGS methods, demonstrating its superior performance in convergence speed and accuracy across varying fractional orders and mesh sizes. For instance, HS4EGGS consistently outperforms the other methods in terms of iteration count and computational time while delivering solutions that align closely with expected results. This study highlights the robustness of HS4EGGS, positioning it as a reliable and efficient method for solving NTFDEs, with potential applications across diverse scientific and engineering domains.
A Caputo-based nonlocal arithmetic-mean discretization for solving nonlinear time-fractional diffusion equation using half-sweep KSOR Mohd Usran Alibubin, Jumat Sulaiman, Fatihah Anas Muhiddin, Andang Sunarto, Graygorry Brayone Ekal Edelweiss Applied Science and Technology, 2025 This paper introduces a novel numerical method for solving one-dimensional nonlinear time-fractional diffusion equations (1DNTFDEs), addressing computational challenges in modeling nonlinearity and fractional dynamics. The proposed method integrates the Half-sweep Kaudd Successive Over-Relaxation (HSKSOR) technique with a Caputo-based nonlocal arithmetic-mean discretization scheme. The Caputo fractional derivative is leveraged to model time-fractional dynamics, while the half-sweep Caputo-based nonlocal arithmetic-mean scheme efficiently handles nonlinear terms, transforming the nonlinear system into a linear one solved iteratively using HSKSOR. Numerical experiments on three benchmark examples demonstrate significant reductions in iteration counts and computational time. The HSKSOR method outperforms traditional iterative techniques such as Full-Sweep Gauss-Seidel (FSGS) and Full-Sweep Kaudd Successive Over-Relaxation (FSKSOR) methods, achieving superior computational efficiency without sacrificing accuracy. The proposed method provides an efficient and scalable computational framework for solving complex time-fractional models, offering high accuracy and substantial computational cost reductions. This advancement enhances the theoretical framework of nonlocal discretization and offers a powerful tool for applications in physics, engineering, and applied mathematics, where modeling fractional dynamics is critical.
Performance Analysis of Log-Space Harmonic Potentials for Path Planning in Indoor Environment Nowyannie Willie D. Tamsin, Jumat Sulaiman, Azali Saudi, Andang Sunarto Journal of Advanced Research Design, 2024 In recent years, there has been an increasing interest in the study of path planning algorithms for autonomous robot systems. The current study aims to examine the simulation performance of path planning using the Successive Overrelaxation (SOR) method and the log-space Gauss-Seidel (LGS) method. The simulation addresses the numerical solution of a boundary value problem for Laplace's equation, utilising Log-space mapping and adhering to Dirichlet boundary conditions within a closed region. The experiment done in both sparse and dense environments shows the benefits of the iterative methods. The paths generated by the SOR and LGS approach are compared using specific numerical examples in smooth trajectory planning. The comparative analysis suggests that the LGS iterative method effectively addresses the issue of achieving high precision in the numerical computation of the gradient of harmonic potentials for generating safe paths in dense environments with narrow corridors and difficult regions. The simulation results also indicate that the LGS employed in this study exhibits faster convergence. Although it has a slower execution time, it is successful in dense environments compared to the SOR method.
