CARDIOVASCULAR EFFECTS OF AN AQUEOUS EXTRACT OF PASSIFLORA CONTRACTA VITTA LEAVES IN NORMOTENSIVE AND HYPERTENSIVE RATS.

Passiflora contracta Vitta is a medicinal plant of the genus Passiflora, popularly known as wild passionflower, and has been used for nutritional and therapeutic purposes due to its sedative and antioxidant properties for over 200 years. Although there are few studies and pharmacological data related to this species, its diverse chemical composition and a wide range of biologically active components suggest its potential cardioprotective and hypotensive properties. The objective of this study was to identify potential chemical constituents, quantify phenols and total flavonoids, and assess the hypotensive effect of the aqueous extract of P. contracta Vitta, as well as potential toxic effects, in normotensive and experimentally hypertensive mice. For this purpose, x normotensive and hypertensive male Wistar rats (induced by L-NAME 20 mg/kg for 7 days) were used. (CEUAS: 2521170223/ 9546170223/1239150223). Measurements of mean arterial pressure (MAP) and heart rate (HR) were taken before
