The density of marine debris in seaweed farming sites in Kupang Bay, East Nusa Tenggara Province - Indonesia A G O Kase, W L Tisera, B M Rehatta, I J Emola, D M Bessie, R R L Supit, Y Merryanto, A E Afo, A U I Meko, U P L Dawa, D S Gadi, R I C Banoet, A U S Kette, A D N Rupidara, Ambariyanto Iop Conference Series Earth and Environmental Science, 2023 Organic and inorganic debris in the seaweed farming areas in Kupang Bay and its surroundings is a serious problem, but until now there has been no accurate scientific data on this waste, both macro and micro. This study aimed to calculate and analyze macro debris wasted in seaweed farming areas. Sampling for macro debris consists of (1) sampling of debris deposited in the farming area, using Belt Transect, (2) sampling of debris at Sea Level and Water Column. The data obtained were analyzed for absolute density (weight of waste), absolute density (number of pieces of waste), relative density (weight of waste), and relative density (number of pieces of waste). The results of this research found that the dominant debris found at the seaweed farming site in Kupang Bay and its surroundings was plastics, with a details density of 24.33 amount/1000 m2 (37.83%) in Bolok; 13.67 amount/1000 m2 (35.57%) in Tablolong; 38.00 amount/1000 m2 (74.06%) in Tesabela; 37.67 amount/1000 m2 (58.55%) in Pasir Panjang, and 87.00 amount/1000 m2 (57.90%) in Sulamu, followed by wood waste and nylon rope waste. The most dominant source of waste was the activities of seaweed farming itself.
Secondary metabolites of some varieties of Caulerpa species Alfred G.O. Kase, Hilconida Calumpong, Angreini Rupidara Iop Conference Series Materials Science and Engineering, 2020 Abstract Several species of Caulerpa have been investigated and bioactive principles, such as caulerpin and caulerpicine have been isolated from a number of them. Caulerpin produces mild anesthetic action, difficulty in breathing, sedation, and loss of balance. The toxic syndrome has been reported to be somewhat similar to that produced by ciguatera fish poisoning. The neurotrophic activity of caulerpicine is thought to be of clinical value. Tropical green algae and a few of their temperate relatives have yielded a number of bioactive metabolites and some of these are believed to be used by the algae as a chemical defense against herbivorous animals. This research was aimed to determine the secondary metabolites compound of some varieties of Caulerpa species . Chromatography and Spectrophotometric methods were used to conduct this research. The result shows that Caulerpin and caulerpicin presence on five species of Caulerpa species Caulerpa racemosa Siquijor, Caulerpa lentillifera wild and farm from Mactan, Caulerpa clavifera Mactan and Caulerpa lentillifera cultured in the common garden. Higher absorbance of both compounds caulerpin and caulerpicin found in wild Caulerpa lentillifera from Mactan while the lowest absorbance of caulerpin found in Caulerpa racemosa collected from Siquijor, whereas the lowest absorbance of caulerpicin found in the cultured Caulerpa lentillifera in the common garden.
Ethnobotany study of lontar tree (Borassus flabellifer L.) at Raijua Island D L Age, A Ch Hendrik, A D N Rupidara Iop Conference Series Materials Science and Engineering, 2020 Abstract The aims of the study were to determine the utilization of Lontar Plant ( Borassus flabellifer L.), its organ used in relation to the culture of the Savu community. Data were collected using semi-structured techniques interviews, field observations, questionnaires, preference and direct matrix ranking with an index of cultural significance. Data were analyzed to calculate the index value of cultural significance which was included 3 aspects, namely the use-value (q), the intensity value (i), and the exclusivity value (e) of the plant and were described qualitatively. The results showed that the utilization of plants in the cultural life of the Savu community was very high. The utilization of plant parts was carried out by cutting, slicing, tapping and weaving. The parts mostly used were the roots, stems, stalks, leaves, flowers, and fruit.
