Optimisation of Parameters for Abrasive Water Jet Machining of Aluminium 7075 Alloys using Taguchi Method C. Sravanthi, S. Gajanana, A. Krishnaiah, Ch. Venkateswarlu International Journal of Vehicle Structures and Systems, 2026 This research focuses on the experimentation of Abrasive Water Jet Machining (AWJM) applied to aluminium (Al) 7075 alloys. Three critical AWJM parameters - water jet pressure (WJP), stand-off distance (SOD) and traverse speed (TS) were systematically varied across three levels in a series of experiments designed using Taguchi's L9 orthogonal array. For effective machining by AWJM, the process parameters are optimised, specifically assessing their influence on material removal rate (MRR). The methodology employed is Taguchi's method and subsequent is applied. The optimal combination as WJP of 3800 bar, SOD of 2mm and TS of 80.21mm/min was identified through the Analysis of Variance (ANOVA). Notably, the ANOVA indicated that TS played a significantly impactful role, contributing to 76.85% of the observed outcomes. Post-AWJM, Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) analysis was conducted, unveiling the presence of distinct features indicating an increase in the MRR. The developed mathematical model for MRR demonstrated a close correspondence between predicted response outcomes and the experimental findings. To validate the identified optimal parameter levels of AWJM, a confirmation test was conducted, affirming the robustness of the settings arrived.
Computational Fluid Dynamic Analysis of Missile at Various Mach Numbers Raghavender V, Ramana S.V, Krishnaiah A Ssrg International Journal of Mechanical Engineering, 2024 - The study conducted using Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD), a missile serves several important objectives that contribute to the design, performance evaluation, and optimization of the missile. CFD simulations help assess the missile's aerodynamic behavior in various flight conditions. This includes analyzing lift, drag, and stability characteristics, which are crucial for achieving accurate trajectory predictions and target accuracy. By analyzing the flow patterns around the missile's surface, it can identify areas of high drag. Engineers can then modify the missile's geometry to reduce drag, resulting in improved fuel efficiency, longer range, and better maneuverability. The simulations enable the examination of how the missile's control surfaces affect its stability and maneuverability. This information is crucial for ensuring the missile can accurately follow its intended trajectory and perform any necessary mid-flight adjustments. Understanding the aerodynamic forces and thermal loads on the missile's structure helps assess its structural integrity. It can predict potential failure points and guide structural design improvements. Overall, the analysis of missiles plays a pivotal role in ensuring their effectiveness, accuracy, and safety. It helps engineers to understand complex fluid dynamics phenomena and their interactions with missile components, guiding the design process toward optimal solutions.
Preparation, characterization and densification studies of W-Ag nanocomposites produced by chemical route M. Venkat Reddy, A. Krishnaiah, P. Venkateshwar Reddy Low Carbon Materials and Green Construction, 2023 W-Ag has applications in a wide range of cutting-edge fields, counting heat sinks and microwave absorbers for micro—electronic components, electric arc ends, and filaments for welding processes, electrical contacts, and durable electronic connections. Chemical methods provide a number of benefits, including improved purity, and controlled particle size. The present study focused on the fabrication of W-Ag nano composites using chemical synthesis. W-Ag nanocomposites with average size less than 50 nm were synthesized using Tungsten hexacarbonyl (W(CO)6, and silver acetate (CH3-COOAg) as metal precursors in the present study. The W-Ag composites were sintered using conventional sintering. X-ray diffraction studies of as-prepared powders showed amorphous W-phase and FCC Ag, while sintered W-Ag composites exhibited crystalline BCC W and FCC Ag phase. The effect of sintering temperature on relative density and mechanical properties of W-Ag sintered compacts was investigated. Relative density in excess of 97.6%, 98.2% and 98.8% was achieved for W-20.3 wt.% Ag, W-30.1 wt.% Ag and W-39.8 wt.% Ag composites on conventional sintering at 1000°C for 1 h. Vickers hardness of 364 ± 10 and 320 ± 8 Hv and 279 ± 6 were achieved for W-20.3 wt.% Ag, W-30.1 wt.% Ag and W-39.8 wt.% Ag composite compacts respectively. The hardness value of W-Ag composites decreased with an increase in Ag content. The combination of properties realized in this study renders the composites suitable for automotive and heat sink applications.
Evaluation of Bronze Electrode in Electrical Discharge Coating Process for Copper Coating JagadeeswaraRao Maddu, Buschaiah Karrolla, Riyaaz Uddien Shaik, Hassan Elahi, Krishnaiah Arkanti Micromachines, 2023 One of the widely used non-traditional machines for machining of hard materials into complex shapes and different sizes is the electrical discharge machine (EDM). Recently, the EDM has been used for deposition by controlling the input parameters (current and duty cycle). This work was carried out to evaluate the readily available bronze (88% Cu + 12% Sn) electrode for deposition of copper material on titanium alloy. Experiments were conducted according to Taguchi experimental design considering the input parameters of current, Ton, Toff and preheating temperature of substrates. Titanium alloy was further hardened by preheating at temperatures of 100 °C, 300 °C and 500 °C and quenching in brine, castor oil and vegetable oil in order to avoid workpiece erosion. After this treatment, hardness, grain area, grain diameter and number of grains were characterized to compare with pretreated substrates. Then, the treated substrates were taken for copper deposition with the EDM. Output parameters such as material deposition rate (MDR), electrode wear rate (EWR), coating thickness (CT), elemental composition and surface crack density (SCD) were found. Material characterization was carried out using a scanning electron microscope (SEM) with energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDX) and optical microscopy. Output parameters were optimized with technique for order of preference by similarity to ideal solution (TOPSIS) to find optimum parameters. A sixth experiment with parameter values of Ton of 440 µs, Toff of 200 µs, preheating temperature of 300 °C and quenching medium of castor oil was optimum with MDR of 0.00506 g/m, EWR of 0.00462 g/m, CT of 40.2 µm and SCD 19.4 × 107 µm2.
