  • Characteristics and Ash-Related Problem Prediction of Refused Derived Fuel from River Waste

    Abstract Environmental pollution, especially in rivers, increases every year, especially due to waste being dumped directly into rivers. Municipal solid waste can be processed into refused derived fuel to be used as a coal fuel mixture in CFPP. This research aims to analyse the risk of burning RDF originating from river waste as a single fuel and RDF as a mixed fuel for coal up to 30%. Solid fuel standard tests were used to determine sample characteristics and properties. To determine the initial risk of the ash deposition problem of RDF from river waste (RDF-R), the theoretical prediction indices are used. As a single fuel, RDF-R exhibits a high risk of slagging due to its high composition of Fe2O3 and CaO in the ash. Adding RDF-R to coal leads to increase of the slagging and fouling risk. However, addition up to 30% RDF-R to coal has insignificant effect in corrosion because the sulfur content in the coal can reduce the corrosive effects of chlorine.

  • Designing a Model of the Early Warning System on the Road Curvature to Prevent the Traffic Accidents

    Road traffic safety in developing countries is a complex problem involving many factors such as humans, vehicles, structures, and the roads' environments. This study focuses on reducing traffic accidents for passenger busses, aiming to identify the causes and create a simple computer model to warn in areas like EWS using geometric road data. The survey was conducted at accident-prone locations and simulated the travel speed, road geometric, and traffic composition data. Results can be concluded that the rate is largely influenced by the radius of curvature, visibility, road gradient, and weather conditions. The concept of the EWS computer model was developed using web-based technology that can use to record the data instantly. The model had tested in another location to validate the field parameter and geometric road improvement.

  • Analytical and Numerical Simulations to Observe the Seawater Cooling Phenomena Through a Single Rectangular Plate-Fin

    This paper describes several simulations of the seawater cooling phenomenon using a theoretical approach based on analytical method, numerical method of Euler’s and Runge-Kutta of fourth-order (RK4). These research objectives, i.e. to get the energy balance equations, to use the solution equations, and to do the simulation processes. The methods used, i.e. (i) do the completion of mathematical equations to get the constants for energy balance based on the ordinary differential equations (ODEs), (ii) do the made of solving equations for simulation, and (iii) does the simulation processes assisted by a spreadsheet application and result in analysis. The results are in the form of (a) the constants for energy balance, i.e. b1 is 0.9134∙10-3 sec-1 and b2 is 0.31∙10-6 sec-1, (b) produced three solving equations for the simulation, and (c) obtained curves of the temperature changes. The results of the simulation processes based on a spreadsheet application have obtained the results, that the time span 1800 seconds (30 minutes) can cause changes in the temperature of the fluid from 25℃ to (i) 4.823770℃ with a rate of change of 0.092%, if used of the analytical method; (ii) 4.819088℃ with a rate of change of 0.092%, if used the numerical method of Euler’s; and (iii) 5.600404℃ with a rate of change of 0.083%, if used the numerical method of RK4’s. The conclusion in this paper, that all the curves of changes in the temperature of the fluid are the non-linear curves. Even though the final value of temperature is the highest, but the RK4 more thoroughly. Suggestions for future work, that the simulation of its phenomena must be begun with making the mathematical models with the analytical and/or numerical method and implemented them into the computer application.

  • Observing the Performance of Interface Device for Communicating Based on a Half-Duplex System by Giving a Realistic Condition

    This article explains about a stage after the stage of the verification test, there is a phase of a form of prior activity to the final stage, i.e., the hot commissioning phase. Hot commissioning is a stage for providing a realistic condition or validation test activity. Based on the follow-up activity which is the reason for choosing the title, therefore the two research objectives in this article are set. The first objective is to create conditions for the system when the end user controls through the radio-based electronic device, whereas the second objective is to create conditions for the system when the end user controls through the telephony-based electronic device. The steps of research methods for achieving the research objectives are carried out through (i) calling activities, (ii) connecting process, and (iii) disconnecting activities after obtaining a connection to communicate from a radio-based device (using the handy talky, HT) and from the telephony-based device (used the mobile phone). The two results based on research objectives have been obtained after observation regarding activities of calling activity, making telephone calls, and termination activity after connecting from radio-based and telephony-based devices. Based on the research results, it can be concluded that the half duplex-based interface device for communicating (IDC) functioned after the realistic conditions is given.

  • Ordinary Differential Equations Models for Observing the Phenomena of Temperature Changes on a Single Rectangular Plate Fin

    In this study, the heat and mass transfer of the blood flow, particularly in a capillary tube having a porous lumen and permeable wall in the presence of external magnetic field are considered. The velocity, temperature and concentration of blood flow become unsteady due to the time dependence of the stretching velocity, surface temperature and surface concentration. The thermal and mass buoyancy effect on blood flow, heat transfer and mass transfer are taken into account in the presence of thermal radiation. This analysis is very much useful in the treatment of cardiovascular disorders. The equations governing the flow under some assumptions are complex in nature, but capable of presenting the realistic model of blood flow using the theory of boundary layer approximation and similarity transformation. First, the system of coupled partial differential equations (PDEs) is converted into a system of coupled ordinary differential equations (ODEs). Then the solutions are obtained by Runge-Kutta method of 4thorder with shooting technique. The effects of various parameters such as Hartman number, radiation parameter, unsteadiness parameter, permeable parameter, thermal buoyancy parameter, Prandtl number, mass buoyancy parameter, velocity slip parameter, thermal slip parameter, Schmidt number on velocity, temperature, concentration, skin friction, Nusselt number and Sherwood number are depicted through graphs. Local Sherwood number enhances because of increase in Schmidt number. Moreover, some of the important results, which are discussed in the present study and have an impact on diseases like hyperthermia, stoke and moyamoya in human body.

  • Injection current into the power transformer as an internal fault phenomena for measuring the differential relay performance

    In this paper explains the classical aspects in measure the differential relay performance. The classical aspects use the simulation through inrush current into the power transformer under three conditions. The first condition is giving the normal phenomenon as phenomenon of loading, the second condition is giving the fault phenomenon for outside of the protection zone, and the third condition is giving the fault phenomenon for inside of the protection zone. The result of measurement during loading condition, the differential relay not operate, because relay is set with value of 130% of the largest current between the three phases, so that the adjustable current is 4.45 mA. The results of current measurement to the differential relay when the fault condition is provided outside of the protection area, the current value to the differential relay should of zero mA and the differential relay not operate. The result of measurement of the current flow to the differential relay when giving the fault phenomenon inside the protection zone is obtained flow to relay at the phase-R is 127.7 mA, phase-S is 123.9 mA, and phase-T equal to 123.8 mA, while the result of calculation of the current flow to the differential relay of each phase of 152.61 mA, and the differential relay operate. After giving all of three conditions, the differential relay performance is known.

  • Safety instrumented systems to investigate the system of instrumentation and process control on the steam purification system

    This paper explains the SIS to investigate the system of instrumentation and process control on the steam purification systems in the geothermal power plant. The research objectives include (i) analysis based on SIL against the BPCS, (ii) determining the component specifications of SIS, (iii) the design of SIS in the form of drawing, and (iv) simulation aided the application of PLC Simulator against the design of SIS result. Analysis step based on SIL conducted on the existence of BPCS. There are two potential danger of SIL-2, namely the condensate water entered the turbine and the steam pressure drop. The component specification is a consideration for the installation of two actuators with a redundant system. The design of SIS in the form of drawing namely the investigating for the instrumentation and process control through the block diagram, so that the function of the SIS as a protection system against personal safety, environmental, and operating facilities, in addition to the publication of the company's reputation. The simulation against the design of development results namely the conditioning of the operation of the emergency valve for drain to the gain of certainty, that the valve is opened when signals from LSH or logic 1 is received and the valve is closed again after signal reception from LSL or logic 0, so the valve can be operated in accordance with logic operation 1 and 0.

    Received: 14 February 2020 Accepted: 16 May 2020 In this manuscript explains the classical aspects of economic dispatch phenomena through a theoretical approach. The method for minimizing the generation cost of the thermal generating unit will fail, if without covering the power losses on the transmission line, while the fuel cost is the largest component in the thermal generating unit. Based on that, the cost of producing the electrical power from a thermal generator should be sought as economically as possible. The existence of an incremental fuel cost of one generating unit may be lower than that of another, but the plant is located away from the load center which affects the power loss of transmission line has the large value. Optimization of fuel costs and power loss of transmission line are used the coordination equation for completion. In the coordination equation, economic costs are generated and achieved, when the total incremental cost of fuel that multiplied by the penalty factor is same for all generators. To calculate the achievement of economic dispatching value in electric power system with type of thermal generation with calculation of power loss of transmission line and value of limitation of generation of generating unit as generating function, hence can be reached by some way of calculation.

  • Performance of bulk oil circuit breaker (BOCB) influenced by its parameters (Case study at the substation of Bogor Baru)

    Performance examination of the bulk oil circuit breaker that is influenced by its parameters at the Substation of Bogor Baru (the State Electricity Company = PLN) has been done. It is found that (1) dielectric strength of oil still qualifies as an insulating and cooling medium, because the average value of the measurement result is still above the minimum value allowed, where the minimum limit of 80 kV/2.5 cm or 32 kV/cm; (2) the simultaneity of the CB’s contacts is still eligible, so that the BOCB can still be operated, because the difference of time between the highest and lowest values when the BOCB’s contacts are opened/closed are less than (Δt<) 10 milliseconds (if meeting the PLN standards as recommended by Alsthom); and (3) the parameter of resistance according to the standards, where (i) the resistance of insulation has a value far above the allowed threshold, while the minimum standards are above 2,000 Mn (if meeting the ANSI standards) or on the value of 2,000 MΩ (if meeting PLN standards), (ii)...
