  • A novel PIN diode-based frequency reconfigurable patch antenna with switching between the mid-5G and high-5G frequency band
    Atanu Chowdhury and Prashant Ranjan

    Cambridge University Press (CUP)
Abstract This research article represents the design of a simple, smaller, and novel frequency reconfigurable patch antenna for 5G communication using PIN diodes. This antenna operates in both mid-5G and high-5G bands. The antenna is intended to operate in eight distinct modes with three PIN diodes in 5G wireless communication covering 27.46–50 GHz of high-5G band (range n257/n258/n260/n261/n262) and frequencies of the 3–6 GHz of mid-5G band (range n77/n78/n79/n46). The antenna has an overall size of 20 mm × 25 mm × 1.6 mm and is placed upon a low-cost FR4 substrate. A higher radiation efficiency from 75% to 98% is achieved in all the different modes. The resonant frequencies are around 3.46, 4.43, 5.83, 31.8, 35.5, and 46 GHz in different modes of operation. Different switching statuses have been carried out in this research work and their performances have also been illustrated in the form of surface current distribution in different resonant frequencies. The simulated and measured results are compared to highlight its proposed design operation.

  • L-Slotted Rectangular Patch Antenna with DGS for mm Wave Applications
    Atanu Chowdhury and Prashant Ranjan

    IEEE
This research paper focuses on a simple design of rectangular antenna having an ‘‘L’’ slot that is useful for millimeter (mm) Wave Application. The demand of high frequency and high bandwidth is increasing. The challenges in selecting proper substrate to reach there with simple structural design are notable issues for the researchers. In this paper, a simple rectangular antenna with L’’ slot on Rogers Ultralam1217 (tm) substrate with the introduction of Defected Ground Structure (DGS) is presented having a dimension of 6mm× 6mm× 0.8mm covering a wide range in mmWave from 24.34 GHz to 34.97 GHz (n257/n258/n261). A notable gain of 5. 8dB is achieved in resonant frequency of 29.06 GHz with a maximum radiation efficiency of 96.81%. A good result of Surface Current Distribution is also found. The overall design is formulated and simulated with hfss 21.0 software.

  • T-Slotted T MIMO Antenna for 5G Mobile Communication
Prabir Ghosh, Atanu Chowdhury, and Tejaswita Kumari

    IEEE
In the recent trends of 5G mobile communication, the challenges are to maximize the antenna efficiency, directivity as well as to minimize the mutual coupling in case of MIMO antenna. In this research article, a MIMO antenna is proposed which meets those challenges for 5th generation communication. In India, the frequency band of 27GHz-29GHz has been allotted for the same. In this research work, the resonant frequency achieved is 27.77 GHz whose S-parameter is almost near about -50dB and also a unidirectional radiation is achieved. A Bandwidth over 3 GHz is assigned for the same. The other parameters measured are VSWR, SCD, EFD, radiation efficiency.
