  • Integrated ERP lean model for quality enhancement and operational excellence in SME based automotive mould manufacturing
    A. Bhaskar, A. Devaraju
    Scientific Reports, 2025
Indian automotive SMEs face persistent inefficiencies in die changeovers, tool setups, and traceability, undermining their competitiveness and ISO 9001:2015 compliance. While Lean tools like SMED and ERP systems individually offer performance improvements, their combined application remains underutilized in SMEs. This study presents a structured four-phase ERP-Lean integration model validated in a Chennai based tooling SME. The approach began with diagnostic analysis and time-motion studies to identify inefficiencies, followed by Lean-SMED deployment with standardized setups, ERP customization, and KPI based performance evaluation. Key ERP modules Production Planning, Quality, Inventory, and Maintenance were configured to support real-time visibility and ISO-aligned digital workflows. Results showed a 95.2% reduction in die changeover time, 88.9% reduction in downtime, 72.4% reduction in rejection rate (PPM), and a 148.6% improvement in setup time utilization. Inventory turnover improved by 54.7%, and traceability resolution time reduced by 77.1%. This integration fostered process discipline, reduced variability, and improved compliance audit outcomes. The research concludes that ERP-Lean synergy forms a replicable model for SMEs in high-mix, resource sensitive manufacturing sectors aiming to transition toward Industry 4.0 readiness and ISO conformity.

  • Influence of Fe2O3 Nanoparticle-infused Waste Cooking Oil Biodiesel on the Emission, Performance, and Combustion Aspects towards a Cleaner Environment
    J. Allen Jeffrey, S. Govindaraj, R. Mahesh, A. Bhaskar, K. Arunkumar, R. Edwin Joseph, V. Hariram, V. Punitharaj, S. Sarathipriyan
    Journal of Environmental Nanotechnology, 2025
In the present experimental investigation, Waste cooking oil (WCO) biodiesel was prepared by employing a single-stage transesterification technique using 2.1 grams of NaOH and 65 ml of methanol at a molar ratio of 1:8, at 60 °C for a 75-minute reaction duration, yielding 11.75 liters of WCO biodiesel. Fe2O3 nanofluid was prepared using the ultrasonication technique at 60 Hz and 600 rpm for 45 minutes, using deionized ethanol and Sorbitan monooleate solution. The physicochemical properties, including kinematic viscosity, density, calorific value, flash point and fire point, ash content, and cetane index, were found to be within ASTM limits. SEM and stability analyses on Fe2O3-suspended diesel-WCO biodiesel blend were also conducted. The test fuel blends of D70WCOB30 and D70WCOB30 with 50 ppm, 100 ppm, and 150 ppm of Fe2O3 nanoparticles were prepared separately and tested in a CI engine. The performance test clearly showed that D70WCOB30 Fe2O3 NP100 (80% of diesel and 20% of WCOB with Fe2O3 nanoparticle doping at 100 ppm) fuel blend produced superior Brake Thermal Efficiency (BTE) and lower Brake Specific Fuel Consumption (BSFC) due to higher calorific value. D70WCOB30 Fe2O3 NP100 emitted lower amounts of Unburned Hydrocarbon (UBHC) and CO, whereas the NOx emissions were notably higher. Lower smoke emissions were seen in a diesel-biodiesel blend with a 50-ppm nanoparticle concentration. The combustion characteristics, including in-cylinder pressure and heat release rate, were positively influenced by the addition of nanoparticles. Overall, the D70WCOB30 Fe2O3 NP100 fuel can be used in an unmodified CI engine as a sustainable alternative.
  • Optimization of Machining Parameters to Improve Surface Quality in the Abrasive Water Jet Cutting of AA6351 Aluminium Alloy
    S. Alexpandian, M. Rajesh, P. Loganathan, V. Hariram, Y. R. Kishore, et al.
International Journal of Vehicle Structures and Systems, 2023
This project aims to establish a clear definition of abrasive water jet cutting for AA6351 aluminium alloy and investigate the effects of varying cutting parameters such as water jet pressure (WJP), nozzle distance (ND), abrasive flow rate (AFR) and traverse speed (TSP) on the quality of cut surfaces Surface roughness (SR) and material removal rate (MRR). In this work, the use of Taguchi-based desirability interpretation is used to determine the best parameter settings for abrasive waterjet machining (AWJM) on the AA6351 aluminium alloy. The findings show that when WJP increases and TSP reduces, SR and MRR decrease as well. ANOVA reveal that WJP significantly influence the SR value as well as MRR value trailed by AFR that affect SR and ND affects the MRR. Additionally, the surfaces were thoroughly studied using scanning electron microscope.
  • Mechanical and vibration behavior of surface-modified titanium sheet interleaved with woven basalt/flax fiber metal laminates
Ramraji Kirubakaran, Rajkumar Kaliyamoorthy, Rajesh Munusamy, Bhaskar Annamalai
    Polymer Composites, 2023
In fiber metal laminates (FMLs), the order in which fibers with different natural properties are stacked is very important for making materials that absorb vibrations and have good mechanical properties for structural applications. Hence, the present study focuses on the mechanical and vibration characteristics of FML designed with multi‐order energy‐absorbing flax fiber and high‐strength basalt fiber stacking covered with titanium sheets. The fabricated FMLs were designed with titanium/basalt fiber laminate (Ti/B), titanium/flax fiber laminate (Ti/F) and titanium/multi‐order‐flax‐basalt fiber laminate. The mechanical characteristics including tensile, flexural, and impact strength; and vibration characteristics of prepared FMLs were investigated. The higher tensile and flexural strength were revealed in an FML consisting of basalt layers (Ti/B) laminate than the flax core part (Ti/F) due to the strongness of basalt fiber, increasing the capability of load‐bearing of composites. Ti/B FML showed a maximum tensile strength and flexural strength of 412 and 450 MPa. Furthermore, flax fiber absorbs more energy, so the flax layer's inbuilt structure increases energy absorption during impact and vibration testing. Ti/F exhibits the highest impact strength (427.8 kJ/m2) and Ti/B exhibits the lowest impact strength (312.5 kJ/m2) because flax fibers are more ductile than basalt fibers, increasing the toughness of the FML. Ti/F FML structure, the greatest natural frequency of modes 1, 2, and 3 (549.03, 715.07, and 956.15 Hz) was observed. Natural fiber hybridization designed for FML, such as the Ti/B/F laminate, improved mechanical and vibration properties, making it suitable for structural applications.Highlights Fiber metal laminates were designed with titanium/flax/basalt. FMLs stacked composites significantly affect the mechanical properties. The basalt fiber, increases the capability of load‐bearing of FMLs. The damping of FMLs increases with the increase in flax fiber layers. Flax‐basalt fibers stacked FMLs produce tunable impact and vibration energy.

    Journal of Nanomaterials, 2023
The usage of nanofillers in composite materials has grown over time due to various benefits, including superior properties, better adhesion, and high stiffness. To accomplish this, 150, 200, 250, and 300 gsm of hemp fiber mat with various thicknesses and weight proportions of graphene powder, including 0%, 3%, 6%, and 9%, as well as 3, 6, 18, and 25 µm-sized particles, were used. High-speed mechanical stirring was used to evenly mix the nanofiller (nanographene) with the epoxy-based nanocomposites at various loadings. We looked at the bending and interlaminar shear strength (ILSS) properties of hybrid nanomaterials. According to the study, adding 300 gsm of hemp epoxy composites filled with 6 wt% nanographene has significantly improved mechanical properties. The development of a forecasting model to determine the mechanical properties using artificial neural networks (ANN). The constructed model has a significant connection with the test findings. A correlation of 0.9724 for the Levenberg–Marquardt training procedure indicates a significant connection between the predicted and experimental artificial neural models. The observational and projected results for bending and ILSS have <3% and 4% errors, corresponding to the ANN prediction and Taguchi L16 matrix. The potential of ANN for forecasting the bending and ILSS of composite materials is expanded by the close relationship between ANN and experimental findings. The following parameters were used in the current study to determine the flexural strength: graphene content (40.79%), graphene size (34.19%), the number of hemp layers (12.57%), and hemp fiber thickness (11.65%). Similar to ILSS, graphene content accounts for 47.82% of the total, with graphene size (27.87%), hemp fiber thickness (11.80%), and the number of hemp layers (also 11.80%) all contributing (11.78%).
  • Data Analytics on the Nano Composite Behavior of Circular CFST Columns under Axial Load

2023 International Conference on Data Science Agents and Artificial Intelligence Icdsaai 2023, 2023
The current study examines the buckling behavior of steel circular tube columns filled with Nano Concrete using ANSYS software (NCFCST). The whole strength of NCFCST, simple CFCST, and hollow columns (HC) is predicted by a FEA model. The FE models are constructed and validated using experimental data concerning ultimate strength, load-deformation histories, and failure processes. In comparison to hollow columns and plain concrete steel circular tube columns (PCFCST), the testing findings shown that the NCFCST strength rose and buckling behaviours decreased.
