Abstract Two-dimensional (2D) piezoelectric materials have been widely concerned because of their important applications in nano-piezoelectric generators. Finding two-dimensional materials with large piezoelectric effects is still a great challenge. In this work, the inversion center of the β-Ga2O3 monolayer was broken by substitutional doping. Not only the in-plane piezoelectric effect but also the uncommon out-of-plane piezoelectric effect is induced in the doped β-Ga2O3 monolayer. In addition, we analyzed the cause of the piezoelectric effects from their electronic properties. The values of out-of-plane (in-plane) piezoelectric coefficient for Cu-doped and Al-doped β-Ga2O3 reach −4.04 (3.95) pm/V and −2.91 (0.37) pm/V, respectively. The results are comparable with those of the commonly used bulk piezoelectric materials such as α-quartz (d11 = 2.3 pm V−1), AlN (d33 = 5.1 pm V−1), and GaN (d33 = 3.1 pm V−1), even though they are both two-dimensional structures. Our study shows a great potential application of doped β-Ga2O3 monolayer in micro and nano-electromechanical devices such as smart wearables, sensors, energy converters, and micro energy collectors.

  • Hydrogenation-induced superconductivity in monolayer

    IOP Publishing
Abstract Here, we construct a new two-dimensional hydrogenated transition metal dichalcogenide material, the Janus WSH monolayer, which is created by replacing the top-layer S atoms in the 2H-WS2 monolayer with H atoms. Then we use first-principles calculations to investigate its electronic structure, phonon dispersion, and superconductivity. The results show that hydrogenation breaks the reflection symmetry, which helps orbital hybridization and to flatten the electronic bands. Thus, it leads to a high electronic density of states near the Fermi level. Additionally, the electron-phonon coupling is enhanced by the softening of phonon modes from the in-plane vibrations of W. The strong interactions between electrons and phonons result in phonon-mediated superconductivity in Janus WSH monolayer. The calculated critical temperature (T c ) is approximately 23.1 K at atmospheric pressure. This T c is about twice higher than that of existing WS2-based materials.

  • Safety Positioning for UAV Swarms in Harsh Environments
Bao Peng, Yulin Chen, Tianyi Zheng, Chi Duan, and Zhi Yao

Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE)
Unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) technology has been widely utilized in military and civilian fields such as rescue, disaster relief, urban planning, and material transportation. Obtaining the current position information of a UAV is of great significance in the performance of its tasks. However, positioning technology may fail in harsh environments. This article proposes the following solutions to address this problem: we eliminate interference and recover useful information by a dark channel algorithm and an attention generation adv ersarial network; visual and geomagnetic signals are fused to improve the safety of positioning technology; and a two-path convolutional network is proposed to optimize the feature extraction method and extract the continuity information of data. Moreover, open research work and challenges are also discussed.

  • Fruit classification model based on residual filtering network for smart community robot
Yulin Chen, Hailing Sun, Guofu Zhou, and Bao Peng

    Hindawi Limited
With the rapid development of computer vision and robot technology, smart community robots based on artificial intelligence technology have been widely used in smart cities. Considering the process of feature extraction in fruit classification is very complicated. And manual feature extraction has low reliability and high randomness. Therefore, a method of residual filtering network (RFN) and support vector machine (SVM) for fruit classification is proposed in this paper. The classification of fruits includes two stages. In the first stage, RFN is used to extract features. The network consists of Gabor filter and residual block. In the second stage, SVM is used to classify fruit features extracted by RFN. In addition, a performance estimate for the training process carried out by the K -fold cross-validation method. The performance of this method is assessed with the accuracy, recall, F1 score, and precision. The accuracy of this method on the Fruits-360 dataset is 99.955%. The experimental results and comparative analyses with similar methods testify the efficacy of the proposed method over existing systems on fruit classification.
