Renewable energies are crucial to current power systems for sustainability and the preservation of the environment, but their dependability is hampered by their reliance on environmental factors. The usage of what is called a Unified Power Quality Conditioner (UPQC) is described in this article as a way to improve the dependability and effectiveness of solar and wind power plants that are grid-connected. This integrated structure uses wind turbines together with solar cells as its two renewable energy sources. Based on its distinctive skills to manage active as well as reactive power regulation, UPQC was chosen. The Fractional Order PID (FOPID) controller explored to regulate the UPQC has had its settings adjusted using the Golden Eagle Optimization (GEO) technique. The effectiveness of the proposed controller in enhancing the performance and reliability of the hybrid energy system throughout a variety of chaos events, such as sags in voltage, swells, and imbalanced loading, is verified through simulation results. Furthermore, by reducing total harmonic distortion (THD), the UPQC-FOPID control strategy can enhance power quality. It's noteworthy that distinct maximum power point tracking (MPPT) Maximum power point tracking (MPPT) approaches have been incorporated for systems using PV and WT separately. The entire system, including the UPQC, FOPID controller, MPPT techniques, and renewable energy sources, has been modeled and simulated using MATLAB/SIMULINK R2022b software.
  • Ant-Lion Optimization Algorithm Based Optimal Performance of Micro Grids

Indonesian Journal of Electrical Engineering and Informatics, 2024
In the operational state of an electrical power system, ensuring efficient utilization and high-quality power usage is essential. Various quality enhancement measures, such as linear and adaptive filters, are implemented to improve the current's quality. Additionally, power flow controllers are employed to mitigate losses and enhance fault tolerance. However, the escalating demand for power supply, driven by rapid industrial and urban growth, often exceeds the capacity of existing generation systems. To address this challenge, supplementary subunits are integrated into the power system. This proposal's main objective is to introduce a weight-defined parameter monitoring system for power scheduling within a multi-parameter monitoring framework. The aim is to enhance the conventional preference-based scheduler by incorporating intelligent control techniques, including Unified Power Quality Conditioner (UPQC) with the ANT-LION Optimization (ALO) algorithm, which will be compared to a Fuzzy Logic controller. UPQC plays a pivotal role in addressing power quality issues within the system, combining a shunt active power filter with an Artificial Neural Network (ANN) controlled by the ALO algorithm. Our research demonstrates the effectiveness of this proposed system, particularly in microgrid applications, with validation conducted using MATLAB/Simulink.
  • CGA-FOPID BASED UPQC FOR MITIGATING HARMONICS AND COMPENSATE LOAD DEMAND IN GRID LINKED HYBRID RENEWABLE ENERGY SOURCES

Power Quality (PQ) explore the issues resulting from current and voltage deviations. Due to an extraordinary rise in nonlinear loads, such as power electronic-based loads, the issues with power quality in distribution systems have become severe. Non-sinusoidal current is drawn from the electric grid by the nonlinear loads. These non-sinusoidal currents contain harmonics and reactive power that lower the system’s overall PQ. Unified Power Quality Conditioner (UPQC) was emerged as a promising compensator to provide a solution for all PQ issues. UPQC generally had two Voltage Source Converters (VSC), one was Shunt, and the second was a Series that act as a current controller and voltage controller, respectively. Yet the controlling strategy of this compensator was still complex to design. Here, an optimization based Fractional Order Proportional Integral Derivative (FOPID) was developed to manage UPQC for improving PQ in a hybrid Renewable Energy System (RES). The optimal problem of the FOPID controller was solved through the use of a novel optimization approach. The pulse signal of UPQC was done using the optimal controller, which analyzes the error value of reference voltage and actual load voltage to generate pulses. The proposed optimal controller based UPQC performance was validated under various conditions such as interruption, swell, harmonics, and sag. The optimal controller offered THD value in sag, swell, and interruption period at current have 10.19%, 9.77%, and 10.09%, at voltage have 0.09%, 0.07%, and 0.30%. Moreover, the issues mitigation performance was compared to another present approaches. The validated outcome demonstrates the proposed model provides a well mitigation performance in all PQ issues conditions, so it was well fit for real-time implementation.

Introduction. Uninterrupted power supply is the major requirement in the areas since it involves human lives. In the current scenario the demand and price of fossil fuels is increasing rapidly and availability also is not sufficient to the needs, an alternative identification to power generation is solar and wind energies. The purpose of designing an aimed, single switch boosted voltage and current suppressor (SS-BVCS) converter topology that interfaces both the wind and solar hybrid model. The method involves in the proposed chopper converter is derived by simply merging a switch and a pair of diodes and CLC filter which is used in realization of zero voltage switching for the main switch and a reversing diode to extract high voltage gain. The designed SS-BVCS converter topology can able to have a tight self-control on two power-processing paths. The novelty of the SS-BVCS converter module is designed to ensure maximum throughput, feeding to the load with high quality uninterrupted output, by boosting the DC voltage to a required amount and thereby supressing the current. Practical value obtained by the developed model utilizes both the sources for supply to the load individually or combined based on the extraction availability of the feeder. Also, the proposed SS-BVCS module delivers with efficient lesser component count and gaining maximum power from the harvest of green energy.

International Conference on Edge Computing and Applications Icecaa 2022 Proceedings, 2022
In particular, there is an increasing need for electric vehicles because the world's population is expanding at the same time that fossil resources are running out. In electric vehicles, the power electronic converters that are used in battery chargers have a substantial influence on the vehicle's overall weight and cost, in addition to its dependability. This investigation gives attention to various possibilities for charging electric automobiles. In recent years, electric vehicles and technologies for the storage of battery energy have come into their own as an environmentally friendly and economically viable mode of transportation that is suitable for both individual and public use. In the short term, several battery charging technologies are creating rivalry between themselves and the traditional internal combustion engine in order to stimulate the growth of the market for electric cars. This competition is intended to encourage the expansion of the electric car industry. If you want to charge your electric vehicle at the port, you should be prepared to wait a very long time and settle for results that have a poor level of efficiency.

Voltage stability in integrated photovoltaic (PV) distribution systems is crucial for enabling the efficient operation of all linked equipment in the distribution network. One of the most challenging aspects of PV integration is keeping voltage profiles stable. The primary focus is maintaining a constant 22 kVA load voltage profile. In the end, we settled on a PV integrated distribution system with a single phase. Combining a differential inverter with a dynamic voltage restorer (DVR) and a distribution static synchronous compensator (D-Statcom) is a first for the power conditioning sector (UPQC). The purpose of this innovative UPQC system is to employ a fuzzy controller to successfully connect a 10 kW solar PV system to the grid. Based on these results, the optimal battery-powered UPQC control strategy may be selected. As a means of increasing PV integration and ensuring voltage stability in the distribution network, a 20 kVA UPQC was constructed. Total harmonic dispersion may be minimised by maintaining a steady distribution system frequency, voltage, and reactance/resistance ratio.
