    This research aims to contribute valuable insights into the linguistic dynamics of nonstandard Romanian language with a specific focus on the evolution and adoption of the expression drumuri bune! vs. the traditional drum bun!The study elucidates the outcomes of an extensive investigation into the origins of this expression, which appear to be rooted within the domain of drivers. The research employs a multifaceted approach encompassing scrutiny of the RoTenTen corpus, data from the popular Kiss FM radio channel, the exploration of publicly available content from Twitter and Facebook, and the execution of a meticulously structured questionnaire utilizing the Lime tool.Initial findings unearth the genesis of drumuri bune! within the driver community and its subsequent dissemination across various social strata but not his penetration into the standard Romanian yet.
  • Attitudes of Romanian Returnees from Spain towards Spanish Language and culture

    The paper aims to present an initial exploration of attitudes of returned Romanians towards the Spanish language and culture; in order to do that, we used an online ad hoc questionnaire conducted via Google Forms, which offers qualitative information on our subject of study. The sample consists of six individuals of varying ages and educational backgrounds and the results indicate that many of them continue to use Spanish in their daily lives and that they even exhibit a hybrid (Spanish and Romanian) identity and, in general, seem to have very good attitudes concerning Spanish language and culture. Other significant conclusions from this pilot study are that most of the subjects perceive their reintegration into Romanian society as a difficult process. In more detail, this study explores how these individuals perceive and integrate the Spanish language after returning to Romania. It also examines to what extent their experiences abroad have influenced their cultural and linguistic identities, how the contact with Spanish produced different degrees of mixture, since the findings suggest a strong retention of Spanish language skills and a significant impact on their sense of identity, leading to a mixture of Romanian and Spanish cultural elements in their personal and professional lives.

  • ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE AND ANALYSIS OF LINGUISTIC FEATURES IN HYBRID TEXT CORPORA. THE CASE OF SPANISH AND ASTURIAN

    In this paper, the aim is to explain how linguistic algorithms can efficiently simplify tasks carried out by linguists in the analysis of linguistic corpora. To illustrate this, the La Pola Siero corpus, a dataset from a town in northern Spain, will be used as the starting point. Collected in 2014, this corpus is characterized by its hybrid nature, incorporating features from both Central Asturian and Castilian. While it is common to present algorithms based on neural networks, the choice here is to use a Naive Bayesian classifier. This decision, although it may be considered somewhat outdated by some researchers, is justified for several reasons: this classifier will not only effectively address the complexity of the mentioned corpus but also shed light on the relevance and usefulness of Naive Bayesian classifiers in specific linguistic environments.

  • Is there a prosodic accommodation in the final falling contours of Pola Siero’s absolute interrogatives?

    This paper investigates the final Pola de Siero’s contours in absolute interrogatives. We carried out 24 surveys of situations using the methodology of Interactive Atlas of Spanish Intonation, with examples of various intonation contours, which are employed to encode different semantic nuances. The 24 subjects of our corpus were selected taking into account three social variables (age, education and sex)2. We aim to address one question in this study: is there a correlation between social factors and the final contours of Pola de Siero in absolute interrogatives? We found that 21 informants in our survey show a tendency towards the final falling contours in absolute interrogatives, a salient feature of northern Spanish, which contrasts with the final rises in Standard Peninsular Spanish (three informants). As a consequence of this, we could say that this prosodic feature is a relevant one in our corpus and that it seems there is not an Asturian prosodic accommodation in absolute interrogatives; this pattern is not acquired by Spanish speakers who have family in Burgos or Valladolid.
