    Gamma spectrometry of radioactive media and objects addresses various issues, including mineral exploration, environmental monitoring, medicine, security, agriculture, anti-terrorist protection and the assessment of the consequences of both man-made and natural disasters. Despite the extensive experimental and theoretical research on gamma radiation processes, mathematical modeling of gamma fields remains a relevant topic. In particular, these studies concern the analytical calculations of gamma ray intensity in a medium that reduces the gamma radiation flux in accordance with a modified attenuation law. The revised attenuation law is described by the Tsallis q-exponential function representing a power generalization of the classical exponential function and, as shown in this research, can provide a more flexible tool for fitting experimental data. The parameter q serves mainly for measuring the deviation from exponential behavior, but is also related to quantifying the system’s nonadditivity, i.e., a property that is inherent in complex systems with long-range interactions and memory effects. Using this law, we modify the classical problem of evaluating the intensity of a gamma field generated by a semi-infinite volume (half-space). This problem mathematically leads us to a triple improper integral which as shown can be expressed in terms of generalized incomplete beta-functions under different auxiliary conditions. Technically, we derive the gamma ray intensity at a point located in the air above the radioactive soil that is assumed to consist of horizontal homogeneous layers. The intensity dependences on the distance to a soil surface are evaluated at different parameter values q and fixed typical values of soil densities and attenuation coefficients. These findings can be of interest to specialists in modeling gamma and similar fields, as well as for enhancing remote monitoring techniques for gamma fields.

    The scope of generation, accumulation and use of ash and slag waste of thermal power plants in different countries has been analyzed. The results of the study of the phase, mineralogical and chemical composition of ash and slag waste obtained with the dominance of solid and liquid fuel in the energy balance have been presented. It has been shown that the newly formed and previously accumulated ashes and slags of thermal power plants, with their correct and effective use, are a powerful source of expansion of raw materials in various industries. The existing methods of using ash and slag waste, which have been developed based on their mineral composition and the content of trace elements and impurities in them, have been considered. The most effective application of these wastes is in the construction industry, as well as when used as a raw material for obtaining compounds of rare metals, for example, vanadium.

  • Perspectives of nuclear energy development in Ukraine on the global trends basis

    The article examines global trends in the development of the nuclear power industry. It includes the following: extending the operating life of nuclear power units; development of atomic energy in the context of the Paris Agreement; development of nuclear-hydrogen energy; synergistic interaction of renewable energy sources and nuclear power plants; introduction of new reactor technologies. The attitude of different countries of the world to atomic energy is described. It is determined that China and India are the leaders in developing nuclear power. It was determined that small modular reactors are considered transformative reactors that will contribute to the further development of atomic energy in the world. The advantages of small modular reactors in comparison with reactors of large capacity are described, and recommendations for selecting small modular reactors for Ukraine are formulated. Installation of small modular reactors at the operational sites of the NPPs of Ukraine can reduce the financial costs of their construction. Therefore, it will contribute to the sustainable development of the nuclear energy industry of Ukraine.

    Today there is a significant demand for improving the quality of the educational process in higher education institutions, in particular, through the improvement of principles and methods of teaching various sciences by enhancing the practical skills of students and graduate students. The implementation of this task is particularly difficult in the context of distance learning (for full-time and part-time) and blended learning. This study corresponds to the current direction, as it concerns the study of the possibilities and feasibility of using additional tools for teaching disciplines within NoSQL. Paper’s focus is on the justification of the use as an additional tool of a number of massive open online courses (MOOC) distance learning platforms, a comparative analysis of a number of platforms for their compliance with the established criteria. Examples of using MOOC MongoDB University within the discipline “Organization of NoSQL databases” are given. To confirm the facts of the expediency of using MOOC as an additional tool in blended learning and distance learning mode, the data of the survey of students are presented.
  • Research of the chlorine sorption processes when its deposition by water aerosol

    Modified stepwise model of gas sorption process with finely dispersed water flow. The sorption model allows forecasting the intensity of hazardous gases deposition with adequate for the emergency recovery conditions accuracy using minimum input parameters. This allows using the sorption model under the conditions of emergency and increasing the forecasting promptness. Use of chemical neutralizer is proposed to increase the effectiveness of chlorine hazardous gas deposition. Use of sodium hydroxide is proposed as the chlorine chemical neutralizer, which is easily dissolved in water, non-toxic and easy to store. An experimental laboratory facility was developed and created with the purpose of experimental verification of the sorption processes, which allows researching the sorption processes by liquid aerosols within a wide range of dispersity. Adequacy of the existing models as well as the modified one was verified experimentally. The verification results showed a 5% indicator of the theoretical and experimental results compliance.
