  • DEVELOPMENT OF A PARKING INDEX FOR BAGHDAD CITY BASED ON GEOGRAPHIC INFORMATION SYSTEM APPLICATIONS
Firas ALRAWI, Hamid Ahmed AWAD, Khalid Hardan MHANA
    Transport Problems, 2026
A systematic plan employing two analytical methodologies—an analytic hierarchy process (AHP) and a fuzzy analytic hierarchy process (FAHP)—was executed to pinpoint the various districts in Baghdad deemed most suitable for establishing new parking structures. These methods were applied to evaluate and weight multiple decision criteria, including district area, amenities, land price, car ownership, traffic volume, and road density. The weighted outcomes were subsequently represented using geographic information system (GIS) mapping tools, which served primarily for spatial visualization and presentation purposes rather than for computational spatial analysis. Within the 63 districts that constitute the urban landscape of Baghdad, the analytical outcomes derived from the AHP and FAHP methodologies revealed that car ownership (25%) and district area (23%) exert the strongest influences on parking site suitability, followed by land price (18%), amenities (15%), traffic volume (13%), and road density (6%). The spatial representation in the GIS showed that approximately 8.1% (AHP) and 12.3% (FAHP) of Baghdad’s total area possesses very high suitability for parking development, whereas 34.9% (AHP) and 73.2% (FAHP) are categorized as low suitability zones. This study highlights the applicability of the AHP and FAHP in developing a parking index that can assist municipal authorities in prioritizing suitable districts for parking investments. The use of GIS in this work was limited to visualizing the analytical results to support better communication and understanding of spatial distribution patterns within the city.
  • AHP-BASED CONSTRUCTION OF A SMART SUSTAINABLE TRANSPORTATION INDEX FOR THE RAMADI DISTRICTS
Hamid Ahmed AWAD, Khalid Hardan MHANA, Firas ALRAWI, Grzegorz SIERPIŃSKI, Marcin STANIEK
    Transport Problems, 2025
This study presents the analytical hierarchy process method to evaluate the impact of social, economic, environmental, traffic, and road criteria on the smart sustainable transportation index. Several incremental steps comprise the strategy for finding a solution. Initially, we establish the criteria used to evaluate sustainability. This method utilizes the analytical hierarchy process to organize and evaluate the criteria. During the second phase, we evaluate the viability of the transportation measure and collect data from various sources, including government reports, environmental reports, transportation department reports, and field surveys. This information has been gathered expressly to evaluate certain criteria. We use a smart, sustainable transportation index to determine the level of sustainability that the city possesses during the third phase of the project. In the fourth phase, we assess the impact that the specified criteria have on the score of the smart sustainable transportation index. These factors include population (C1), car ownership (C2), air pollution (C3), traffic volume (C4), and road density (C5). The sensitivity analysis revealed that traffic volume (C4) is the most influential criterion, while population (C1) has the weakest impact on the final index score. With a value of 9.33%, the Al-Nasr district has the most impact on the smart sustainable transportation index, while the Euthman Bin Eafaan district has the weakest influence (9.77%).

  • Sustainable communities rating system within the context of Iraqi cities characteristics
Abdelwehab A Alwehab, Firas Alrawi, Falah Almosawi
Iop Conference Series Earth and Environmental Science, 2023
Rating systems for evaluating the sustainability of communities are an essential tool that is increasingly applied throughout the developed world to set criteria indicators to optimize the physical, social, economic, and environmental potential within such communities. Rating systems vary based on existing disparities among societies and their unique building and physical planning practices. Iraqi cities lacked the adaptation of a formal methodology or sustainability rating system to correctly measure the built environment’s sustainability indicators. This research attempts to review the most substantial rating systems to measure the sustainability of communities worldwide to form a point of departure. In conclusion, the Article attempts to delineate relevant parameters to develop a local model to evaluate the suitability levels of communities in urban centres per regional environmental characteristics.
  • Evaluation the Level of Service of Signalized Intersection: Al-Amreia Intersection as a Case Study

Lecture Notes in Civil Engineering, 2022
One of the main element in the network is the intersection which consider as the critical points because there are many conflict in this element. The capability and quality of operation of an intersection was assessed to provide a better understanding of the network's traffic efficiency. In Baghdad city, the capital of/Iraq the majority of the intersections are operated under the congestion status and with level of service F, therefore theses intersection are consider as high spot point of delay in the network of Baghdad city. In this study we selected Al-Ameria signalized intersection as a case study to represent the delay problem in the intersections in Baghdad. The intersection is located in the west of Bagdad city, this intersection realizes a huge traffic, and there are a lot of tourist attractions near to the study area. The aim of this research is to enhance traffic operations, improve the level of service and decrease the delay in Al-Ameria signalized intersection by examine four suggested alternative. Special teams with a special tools are collected traffic and geometric data for the intersection. HCS 2010 program are used in this study to measure the delay and evaluate the level of service in each approach and for the hall of the intersection. The result of this study show that the intersection is operated under the breakdown condition with level of service F for all approaches. The results highlighted that the fourth alternative is the best suitable suggestion to enhance the level of service for the intersection. The fourth alternative recommended to construct a flyover from the North bound towards the South bound the level of service improve from F to C for the base year and for the target year.
