Assessment of Blood Metabolites during Early Postpartum Period as an Indicator of Reproductive Performance in Mehsana Buffaloes T.V. Sutaria, R.K. Chaudhari, M.P. Patel, C.F. Chaudhari, H.C. Nakhashi, B.N. Suthar Indian Journal of Animal Research, 2025 Background: The postpartum period being a crucial on future performance and fertility, it should be monitored critically and evaluated. Therefore, the study was designed to investigate associations between the metabolic indicators during early postpartum period with uterine diseases and the subsequent effect on reproductive performance. Methods: The blood metabolites including non-esterified fatty acid (NEFA), beta hydroxy butyrate (BHBA), cholesterol, total protein, blood glucose and calcium are studied at 1st and 2nd week postpartum (PP) in 50 Mehsana buffaloes. The difference and their association were seen in relation to postpartum diseases and reproductive performance. Result: The glucose concentration significantly (P less than 0.05) decreased in 2nd week compared to 1st week postpartum in Mehsana buffaloes with anoestrous ( greater than 75 days PP), longer service period ( greater than 125 days) and postpartum disorders (Within 125 days). The BHBA and NEFA did not differ significantly between the time points or between the buffaloes suffering from postpartum disorders or not. The early postpartum glucose level can be used as a predictive indicator for buffaloes suffering from anoestrus, longer service period and postpartum disorders.
Effect of Murraya Koenigii and Aegle Marmelos in Management of Bovine Anoestrus Under Field Conditions Chandrakant Fuljubhai Chaudhari, Tarunkumar Virabhai Sutaria, Ravjibhai Karshanbhai Chaudhari, Hareshbhai Chhotalal Nakhashi, Babulal Natvarlal Suthar, Mayank Pravinbhai Patel, Bharatkumar Govindbhai Chaudhary Indian Journal of Animal Reproduction, 2025 Total 33 bovines with the history of not exhibiting the signs of estrous were screened by per rectal examination to rule out the anoestrus condition and included in the present study. The selected animals were divided into three groups. Animals in Group 1 (n=14) were supplemented with grinded dried leaf powder of Murraya koenigii @ 210mg/kg and Aegle marmelos @ 270 mg/kg for 9 days orally; Group 2 (n=12) were supplemented with commercially available oral herbal estrus inducer and Group 3 (n=07) were kept as control. All the animals were monitored for expression of estrus and the animals not exhibited estrus within 30 days of the treatment were considered as not responding to the treatment. Responded animals were bred by artificial insemination and observed for estrus induction response, estrus induction interval and conception rate at induced estrus. Estrus induction response was significantly (p
Successful Management of Repeat Breeder Marwari Mare Due to Post Breeding Endometritis Tarun Sutaria, Ravji Chaudhari, Prajwalita Sutaria, Chandrakant Chaudhari Indian Journal of Animal Reproduction, 2024 An 11-year-old Marwari mare with a history of repeated unsuccessful conception despite normal cyclicity over three years was presented. Transrectal ultrasound revealed large follicles on the left ovary, uterine edema, and intrauterine fluid. Endometrial cytology and antibiotic sensitivity tests yielded negative results. The mare received treatment with Oxytocin, Gentamicin, and Tolfenamic Acid during estrus, along with GnRH post-breeding. Close monitoring during pre- and post-breeding led to a successful pregnancy, illustrating that appropriate evaluations and treatments can address post-breeding endometritis in repeat breeders.
A preliminary study on the effect of intrauterine infusion of neem oil on innate immunity, endometrial inflammatory cytokines, recovery, and conception rate in repeat breeder dairy cows SANJAYKUMAR R PANCHAL, RAVJIBHAI K CHAUDHARI, PANKAJKUMAR A PATEL, SANDIP S PATEL, CHANDRAKANT F CHAUDHARI, TARUNKUMAR V SUTARIA, ARUNKUMAR C PATEL, HARSHAD C CHAUHAN, SAMIR H RAVAL Indian Journal of Animal Sciences, 2024 The present study evaluated the immuno-modulatory effect of intrauterine infusion of Neem oil (twice at 24 h interval) in repeat breeding cows (n=6) suffering with sub-clinical endometritis and compared with untreated control (n=6). There were no changes in the mean blood leucocyte count, lymphocytes (%), neutrophils (%) and monocyte (%) between and within groups. The phagocytic activity of blood neutrophils and monocyte was increased at next estrus compared to that at 0 h and 24 h of treatment in treated cows (NO), while, it did not differ in untreated control. The mean stimulation index (lymphocyte proliferation) was significantly higher at next estrus in NO treated cows compared to untreated control. The endometrial mRNA expression of IL-6 (0.18 fold), IL-1α (0.25 fold) and TNF- α (0.38 fold) were downregulated after the treatment in treated cows, while the mRNA transcript of IL-10 (3.28 fold) was upregulated after the treatment in group NO compared to control. All the cows showed negative endometrial cytology for PMNs after the treatment in NO group. The cervical mucus bacterial load reduced significantly at next estrus in treated cows compared to untreated control as well as after the treatment compared to before the treatment. The first service conception rate was 50% (3/6) in treated cows, while, the corresponding figure in untreated control was 16.67% (1/6). In conclusion, methanolic extract of neem oil may improve the recovery and conception rate in cows with sub-clinical endometritis through its bactericidal and immunomodulatory activity.
Impact of gamete health on fertilization and embryo development: An overview TarunkumarV Sutaria, JaypalsinhB Chorya, RavjibhaiK Chaudhari, ChandrakantF Chaudhari Asian Pacific Journal of Reproduction, 2022 A genetically and functionally proficient gamete is essential for normal fertilization and embryonic development. Any change in gamete health affects fertilization and subsequent events, including embryonic development, implantation, and successful pregnancy. This present review focuses on the role of gamete health on fertilization and embryo development. Several conventional and advanced methods are used to evaluate the morphology and functions of gametes. The abnormal spermatozoa adversely affect fertilization events, which results in reduced cleavage/blastocyst/ implantation and pregnancy rate during assisted reproductive techniques. Poor oocyte quality is also one of the reasons for infertility, although the oocyte has an innate capacity to repair a certain amount of abnormality of both oocyte and spermatozoa. Therefore, oocyte health carries more responsibilities during fertilization events. The gamete, either spermatozoa or oocyte, should have optimum morphological and functional health to fertilize and develop a competent embryo successfully. Thus, it is of prime importance to consider the gamete health parameters while dealing with infertility.
