Electric vehicles (EVs) are gaining global prominence due to their high efficiency, low noise, and minimal carbon emissions. A critical aspect of EV performance lies in the interaction between energy storage systems (ESS) and power converters. Nonetheless, power delivery from storage units tends to be unreliable and needs strong converter units for effective and stable energy transmission. Several forms of direct current-to-direct current conversion systems used in electric vehicles are thoroughly examined in the paper, including both isolated and non-isolated designs such as those with the cuk, flyback, and push-pull architectures. The paper looks at converter categorization, control methods such as proportional-integral and artificial neural networks, as well as the method of modulation using unipolar and bipolar sinusoidal pulse-width modulation (PWM). Additionally, the role of optimization algorithms in improving converter performance is explored. Simulations were conducted using MATLAB/Simulink to evaluate each topology under varying load and input voltage conditions. The results demonstrate that the Push-Pull converter has the best efficiency for high-power applications, while the Cuk and Flyback converters are best for applications requiring continuous current and low-power, compact designs, respectively. This research offers insights for choosing optimal converter structures to improve energy efficiency and reliability of systems in electric vehicles.

Design and implementation of an AC motor speed control and monitoring system based on a touch screen interface with built-in overheat protection, utilizing Arduino, meets the increasing demand for efficient, user-friendly motor control in many industrial applications. This system offers an easy-to-use interface to manage the speed of an AC motor, with real-time feedback and adjustments through a touch screen display. The system employs an Arduino microcontroller, which accepts inputs from the touch screen and processes these to regulate the motor's speed through a pulse width modulation (PWM) method. The system also has an overheat protection system, which it is able to monitor the temperature of the motor via a temperature sensor. When the motor reaches a predetermined temperature, the system automatically shuts off power to avoid damage. The intuitive touch screen facilitates convenient monitoring of motor parameters like temperature, giving a smooth experience to operators. The modular design of the system provides scalability across applications, ranging from household appliances to large industrial systems, with reliability, energy efficiency, and safety in motor-driven processes.

In electric vehicles (EVs), efficient energy management is critical for reliable power transfer between the battery and motor. This paper presents the design and implementation of a bidirectional DC-DC converter equipped with a smart battery management system (BMS). The system supports bidirectional power flow, operating in boost mode during acceleration and buck mode during regenerative braking, thereby enhancing overall energy efficiency and vehicle performance. A PIC microcontroller governs the system, performing real-time monitoring of key battery parameters such as state of charge (SOC), state of health (SOH), voltage, and temperature. Safety features include automatic cooling fan activation when the temperature exceeds 45 °C and generator startup when battery voltage falls below 23 V. Real-time data is displayed via an LCD interface to improve user interaction and system transparency. The proposed system achieved a conversion efficiency of 90-93% during experimental testing, with stable switching, reliable automation, and effective thermal protection. The embedded energy management system optimizes charging and discharging cycles while preventing overcharging, deep discharge, and thermal stress. This intelligent, automated power converter enhances battery life, improves EV reliability, and contributes to sustainable transportation by enabling features like vehicle-to-grid (V2G) energy transfer. The proposed architecture is well-suited for integration into modern EV infrastructure. Although the system architecture supports future V2G integration, V2G functionality was not implemented or tested in the present experimental setup.

Every chance to increase the battery charging is essential to improve the battery charging; this research paper provides an exploration about regenerative braking systems (RBS) in electric vehicles. The motor used in an electric vehicle works as a motor and generator when the reversal of energy supply is made as per the fundamental principles of vehicle operations. In this paper regenerative braking is designed, and the same is developed using MATLAB/Simulink to show the energy restoration and recovery. Results after simulation show the improvement of battery SOC up to 25% due to the usage of regenerative braking. In the study in a real-world context, examples from leading manufacturers such as Tesla and Toyota are examined. Implementation of regenerative braking improves the efficiency of the system both economically and environmentally.
• Power management system for a hybrid energy storage electric vehicle using fuzzy logic controller
Gouthami Eragamreddy, Sevyanaik Gopiya Naik
Bulletin of Electrical Engineering and Informatics, 2024
This research work introduces a power management system for a hybrid energy storage system (PMHESS) configuration for urban electric vehicles utilizing a fuzzy logic controller (FLC). Consequently, the configuration includes two DC/DC interleaved converters that establish a connection between the battery and ultra-capacitors (UCs), thereby ensuring a substantial power capacity. The FLC is adaptable and sturdy, considering information from sources other than the vehicle, such as other vehicles or road infrastructure. The study explores incorporating road topography into the control structure to improve hybrid storage performance. Simulation results show that combining lithium batteries with UCs improves the energy source’s performance and reliability. The power management algorithm reduces sudden demands on the battery by considering the slope of the ground. The work proposes energy storage integration for electric vehicles, exploring its benefits through simulations. Overall, the proposed hybrid energy storage system (HESS) demonstrates high efficiency and power for urban electric vehicles. The results are validated using MATLAB/Simulink.
• Optimizing Electric Vehicle Range through Integrating Rooftop Solar on Vehicle

International Journal of Electrical and Electronics Research, 2024
This paper includes the research work to investigate the optimization of electric vehicle (EV) range by integrating rooftop solar panels onto the vehicle. The primary motivation stems from the increasing power demand for EV charging, requiring substantial grid electricity production. The paper explores the installation of rooftop solar panels to augment the EV range with a single full charge, reducing the dependence on the grid. The simulations are conducted using MATLAB modeling, optimizing solar and grid charging schedules based on solar irradiation data. The outcomes showcase a 1.44 kWh battery integration with an EV equipped with a 1 kW BLDC motor, weighing 800 kg, including payload. The installation of Rooftop Solar Photovoltaic (RTSPV) improved the range of the vehicle with 18.65%, energy consumption is increased with 15.5%, Cost savings in charging the battery is up to 15.5% and travel distance with full charge is increased up to 19.6%. This analysis is made with the reference drive cycle shown in the paper. While the integration of solar panels significantly extends the vehicle range, the research emphasizes the potential for sustainable charging practices to mitigate grid dependence and reduce emissions.
• Modeling and Simulation of Solar Energy Storage System for Electric Vehicle

2022 International Conference on Futuristic Technologies Incoft 2022, 2022
In contrast to the conventional automobiles powered by internal combustion engines burning fossil fuels, electric vehicles have drawn increased attention. Future sustainable transportation is a goal for the auto industry. In an electric car, the electric motor is crucial. Most motors used in automotive applications include AC motors, DC motors, and reluctance motors. However, BLDC motors are best suited due to their high levels of dependability, power density, efficiency, affordability, lightness, and reduced maintenance need as a result of the lack of brushes. With in-wheel technology, each electric vehicle (EV) wheel is operated by a separate motor as opposed to a central drive system. In order to analyze power flow during motoring and regeneration. This work uses the MATLABSimulink platform to present a simulation model of a completely electric automobile. The drive train components include motor, battery, motor controller, BMS, and auxiliary loads. The range of an electrical vehicle is increased by using solar photovoltaic (PV) electricity to aid auxiliary loads, which is represented using their mathematical equations. Plots and discussions are made of all simulation outcomes. To calculate the energy flow and drive performance, the torque and speed circumstances during motoring and regeneration were used. The basis for future research and development will be this study.
