Measuring and monitoring India’s progress toward environmental SDGs: variables influencing the advancement Seema Tewari, Harjit Singh, Neha Puri, Jyoti Nain Measuring Business Excellence, 2025 Purpose The purpose of this study is the progressive assessment of Indian companies’ performance on environment-related sustainable development goals (SDGs). The study also aims to analyze the impact of a wide range of governance and firm-level determinants such as board size, gender diversity, board independence, top management commitment, presence of a sustainability committee and experience in nonfinancial reporting on environment-related SDGs’ performance. Design/methodology/approach Using a mixed-method approach, this paper developed a framework for assessing business progress on environment-related SDGs by mapping targets of SDGs with indicators of global reporting initiative (GRI) standards. The framework is applied to evaluate the sustainability report of 46 Indian companies for six years for environment-related SDG performance. Multivariate linear regression analysis examines the impact of various governance and firm characteristics on this performance. Findings The assessment framework identified improved reporting in all categories but significantly increased socio-environmental and socio-economic-environmental categories. Companies in the utility sector performed well, while those in the healthcare industry did not meet expectations. The pooled OLS panel regression results revealed a positive and significant impact of top management commitments, experience in nonfinancial reporting, board gender diversity and sustainability committee on the environment-related SDG disclosure scores. Research limitations/implications Geographical limitations may limit the generalization in developed countries. The developed SDG assessment framework may help firms choose a business strategy for greater contribution and a governance structure to match this strategy. Investors can receive insight from measured performance, and regulators can lay policies, targets and incentives for different industries based on the interpretation of performance. Originality/value This study developed an assessment framework to capture the positive business contributions to environment-related SDG and its trends. It sheds light on the critical interaction between corporate governance, management committees, experience in financial reporting and environmental SDG performance to increase the understanding of the determinants of SDG performance.

This brings higher operational efficiency in patient care due to advances in digital solutions in health and big data analytics, along with some critical issues concerning fairness in access, ownership of data, and concerns over patients' privacy. This Chapter, therefore, brings to the fore the moral dilemmas existing in the healthcare providers, policymakers, and patients; it is in this context that the paper advances frameworks for addressing such problems. The underlying argument is that there is a need for balanced solutions that promote technological innovation while safeguarding patient rights and societal interests.
EXAMINING FORENSIC ACCOUNTING'S ROLE IN SAFEGUARDING INDIAN BANKING INTEGRITY Amnaa Jamal, Harjit Singh Financial and Credit Activity Problems of Theory and Practice, 2025 Economic sustainability is indispensable for achieving inclusive growth in the Indian banking sector. A sustainable, robust, and healthy banking system keeps a country rolling on its economic wheels. This research study highlights much-talked-about but less-understood aspects of forensic accounting in the Indian banking sector. It examines forensic accounting's impact on the performance of public and private sector banks. The perspectives of bank managers and officers working in the Delhi National Capital Region (NCR) are the primary focal points of this study. Furthermore, the research paper emphasised the importance of shedding light on the benefits. Its Findings suggest that the demand for forensic accountants will also increase with the adoption of forensic accounting practices in India. Since forensic accounting is still optional, most accounting professionals don’t practice forensic accounting. Therefore, there is a need to spread awareness among accounting professionals about adopting Forensic Accounting Practices. This will also add sustainable corporate governance and make forensic accounting a required component of the governance system.
Perceived perception and preparedness of IFRS adoption among accounting professionals Harjit Singh, Neha Puri International Journal of Public Sector Performance Management, 2025 International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) establishes international standards which is relevant for the organisation to present effective financial reporting as per international standards. A uniform set of international norms would make organisations to adopt one reporting language. It would also offer creditors and auditors a holistic view of finance. The research undertaken, studies the level of preparation of the accounting professionals to recognise and view result-based IFRS training in India. This research adopted the method of survey research to gather stakeholder opinion, particularly the professional accountant. The exploratory research sought to investigate how attitude towards IFRS change depending on the personal attributes of CPAs (LeJeune, 2013). The present study helps overcome a gap in the literature by providing respondent results which are more likely to have favourable attitude towards IFRS training based on their demographic characteristics.
Enhancing corporate governance with decentralized AI: a structuration theory perspective Geetika Jain, Harjit Singh, Loha Hashimy Journal of Science and Technology Policy Management, 2025 Purpose Decentralized artificial intelligence (DAI), built on distributed ledgers and smart agents, is increasingly used to strengthen corporate governance by tackling record-keeping and transparency issues. Drawing on Giddens’ structuration theory, this study aims to examine the interaction between actors and structures within DAI systems. Structuration provides a lens to explain the duality of organizational relationships with shareholders, particularly relevant to Annual General Meetings (AGMs), where remote voting often creates methodological concerns. Design/methodology/approach A meta-synthesis dimension analysis is undertaken to assess DAI-based governance solutions, using a retrodictive approach. Alongside the duality of structure, new meta-dimensions for governance solutions are introduced to capture their operational relevance. Findings The convergence of blockchain, data science and the Internet of Things is creating new opportunities for research and application. The analysis shows significant synergic effects in the financial and economic domains from technological adoption and the potential of blockchain-driven tools to enhance the effectiveness of governance practices. Practical implications The study supports the integration of decentralized technologies to reduce shareholder voting costs, improve the speed of decision-making and encourage greater participation in AGMs, thereby advancing governance quality. Originality/value This research offers a fresh perspective by applying structuration theory to the role of DAI in corporate governance. It develops a comprehensive and theoretically grounded model for implementation, aiming to make governance systems more transparent, secure and participatory while improving shareholder engagement and decision-making efficiency.
Impact of dimensions of financial literacy and business innovation on the performance of women entrepreneurs Neetu Juneja, Shweta Nanda, Raj Kumar Singh, Harjit Singh International Journal of Work Innovation, 2025 The study aims to investigate the impact of dimensions of financial literacy and business innovation on the performance of women entrepreneurs. In recent years, the number of women doing business has increased, and several agencies are also working on increasing their participation. The study collected empirical data from 427 female entrepreneurs in India through purposive sampling technique. The survey was conducted using a structured questionnaire adopted from literature. Findings suggest that women's financial literacy is judged by their financial capital, capabilities, and support received from various agencies. Financial literacy leads to business innovation and results in an increase in business performance. Financial literacy provides financial freedom to the women entrepreneur to play in the market with confidence. Further, the digitalisation of business with innovation increases women entrepreneurs' business performance. Additionally, digitalisation alone with only financial literacy has an insignificant impact on business performance.
