Brassinosteroids and Abiotic Stress Recent Developments on Physiological and Molecular Aspects, 2026
A class of steroidal phytohormones, known as brassinosteroids (BRs), is crucial for plant growth and development. Despite the fact that BRs were initially discovered and thoroughly investigated for their powerful growth-promoting physiological effects, the successive investigations in the following years precisely demonstrated the additional role of BRs in governing an array of processes, involving source/sink relationships, seed germination, photosynthesis, senescence, photomorphogenesis, flowering, as well as responses to abiotic and biotic stresses. Improvement in morphological parameters including germination, shoot and root length, yield, and biomass shows the boosting properties of BRs during heavy metal stress on the physical and chemical characteristics of plant growth. Due to the fact that BRs enhance the permeability of cell membranes and exhibit an affinity for membrane-bound proteins, plants administered with BRs undergoing heavy metal stress activate their defense system to scavenge reactive oxygen species (ROS) and reduce metal stress-induced lipid damage caused by ROS. They are known to improve both the quality and quantity of crop plants when administered exogenously at a specific dose and stage of plant growth under normal and stressed conditions. This chapter aims to provide insights into the role and mechanism of BRs during heavy metal stress in plants. - Correction to: Autophagy-related gene BECN1 single nucleotide polymorphisms in diseases (Molecular and Cellular Biochemistry, (2025), 480, 5, (2765-2769), 10.1007/s11010-024-05177-9)

Gene Expression the Journal of Liver Research, 2025
Background and objectives: Alzheimer’s disease (AD), an enduring neurodegenerative malady, contributes significantly to dementia cases, with late-onset AD being more common than early-onset AD. Despite extensive research to diagnose and treat AD, the intricate protein network impedes the development of efficacious drugs or targets. This study endeavored to identify previously undiscovered genetic reservoirs associated with AD progression, which could be targeted as therapeutic markers. Methods: Employing the robust tools of R-language, we dissected vast RNA sequence datasets comprising numerous samples and thousands of genes, pinpointing potential candidates implicated in AD’s trajectory. Thus, we selected the GSE203206 dataset, which includes AD patients and non-dementia controls, based on our criteria. After normalization, RNA-Seq data was compared, and log 2 fold change was calculated to determine the highly dysregulated genes. Further network analysis of genes and their associated miRNA was performed to determine a characteristic change in control and patient groups. Results: Differential expression analysis revealed 13 dysregulated genes in AD, wherein 12 were upregulated, and one was down-regulated. Furthermore, we identified hsa-miR-30-5p as a significant miRNA associated with AD, aligning with previous studies and highlighting its high involvement. Conclusions: This investigation has unveiled four novel genes and a paramount miRNA implicated in AD, thus furnishing potential targets for therapeutic interventions. These discoveries pave the way for further exploration into the intricate functions and implications of these genetic entities - Intronic region polymorphisms of autophagy gene ATG16L1 predispose individuals to Hepatitis B virus infection

SNPs could either cause a disorder or directly alter the efficacy of a particular treatment and act as biological markers. The SNP rs7587633 C/T present in the intronic region of the ATG16L1 gene has been studied for its role in psoriasis vulgaris and Palmoplantar pustulosis. To genotype rs7587633 C/T using PCR-RFLP no restriction site is present for any of the restriction enzymes at the SNP position. To develop an artificial-RFLP method for genotyping rs7587633 C/T, the forward primer was designed in such a way that it resulted in the creation of an EcoRI restriction site in the amplified product which could further be digested with EcoRI to find the genotype of the individual. The newly developed A-RFLP method was applied to genotype the SNP rs7587633 C/T in DNA samples of 100 healthy control individuals. The allelic and genotypic frequencies of the SNPs were 0.80(C), 0.20(T) and 65%(CC), 31%(CT) and 4%(TT), respectively. In conclusion, we developed an A-RFLP method to genotype the SNP rs7587633 C/T which is not present in any of the natural restriction sites and this method could be applied to genotype this SNP in various populations/diseases to find its role. - Mechanistic Evaluation of miRNAs and Their Targeted Genes in the Pathogenesis and Therapeutics of Parkinson’s Disease

Plant Stress Tolerance Molecular Mechanisms and Breeding Strategies Volume Two, 2025
Modernization causes regular and noticeable changes in the environmental components, which consequently influence the productivity of agriculture globally. Environmental components include biotic and abiotic factors. Biotic factors like pests, bacteria, viruses, fungi, and nematodes degrade agriculture output and pose a potential risk to the growth and development of plants and hence affect their productivity. Keeping this in mind, crop development might prove to be an essential approach for ensuring the sustainability of food and plant-based products. Agrochemicals and formulations used in modern agricultural practices to control diseases are responsible for environmental contamination and have adverse effects on human health. Therefore, creating varieties of crops that are resistant to stress is a better strategy in the existing agricultural system. Furthermore, to produce such desired alleles for suitable crop development, a variety of genetic, biochemical, and metabolic variation must be required. Consequently, one of the most popular methods for reducing plant stressors is mutagenesis. Plant breeders favor methods such as physical (gamma radiation, ultraviolet rays, etc.), chemical (ethyl methane sulfonate, methyl methane sulfonate, sodium azide, etc.), and gene editing (ZFN, TALEN, and CRISPR) to induce mutagenesis. However, an essential aspect of plant breeding programs is to enhance genetic variation above and beyond naturally occurring variation. The current book chapter aims to provide insight into mutation breeding techniques in the mitigation of biotic stress in plants. - Microplastic: Interaction with Agroecosystem and Microbial Remediation
