Application of SWOT analysis as a strategy for medical waste management in the independent practice of dentists in Pekanbaru City, Indonesia Oktavia Dewi, Novita Rany, Herniwanti Herniwanti, Jasrida Yunita, Mitra Mitra Multidisciplinary Science Journal, 2026 Independent dental clinics produce toxic medical waste, which presents environmental and public health issues if improperly managed. In Pekanbaru City, 477 freelance dentists generate around 4.62 kg of medical waste daily, with 96% categorised as contagious or harmful. National regulations are undermined by inadequate enforcement and the absence of policies tailored to independent practices, impeding effective administration and requiring strategic intervention. This study sought to identify internal (strengths and weaknesses) and external (opportunities and threats) elements influencing medical waste management in independent dentistry offices and to formulate solutions through SWOT analysis. A qualitative exploratory strategy was employed, incorporating focus group talks with 20 dentists and comprehensive interviews with stakeholders, such as health officials and the Indonesian Dental Association. The SWOT matrix calculations (IFAS and EFAS) were conducted, and priority strategies were established through consensus. The findings identified internal strengths, including expertise in waste management, accessible finance, utilisation of personal protective equipment, and available tools. Weaknesses were insufficient human resources, absence of training, ambiguous standard operating procedures, and inadequate access to containers. Opportunities encompassed supportive policies, sustainable materials, and digital platforms, whereas risks comprised environmental contamination, unregulated clinic expansion, and illicit waste management. The analysis emphasised WT (Weakness–Threat) solutions, advocating for enhanced regulation, centralised waste management systems, capacity development, and community engagement. Effective solutions necessitate the enforcement of localised legislation, the integration of waste compliance into licensing, and the provision of scalable training. The implementation of IoT-enabled centralised systems and public involvement via media can enhance accountability. Incentives for sustainable practices can enhance the alignment of waste management with environmental health objectives.
MONITORING OF MICROBIOLOGY QUALITY RAW WATER AND REFILLED DRINKING WATER DURING COVID-19 Herniwanti Herniwanti, Endang Purnawati Rahayu Indonesian Journal of Public Health, 2022 Introduction: Riau province regency / city data for drinking water depots in 2020 show that the largest number of Pekanbaru City in Riau Province has refill drinking water depots, there are 440 depots consisting of 220 feasible depots while 227 depots are not feasible. This research was conducted in the Tampan sub-district which is the most densely populated city of Pekanbaru. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the microbiological quality standards (Coliform) for refill drinking water depot, raw water source quality standards and population well quality standards during Covid-19. Methods: This research is quantitative descriptive analytic with triangulation methods observation with laboratory tests, in-depth interviews with correspondents of depot officers and residents of drinking water wells. The test was carried out at the UPT health and environment laboratory of the Riau provincial health office. Result: Data analysis compared 7 samples with laboratory test results according to quality standards. The results of the analysis stated that there were no Coliform bacteria in the tested samples. The source of raw water from housing will have better standard of quality the deeper it is. Conclusion: There is no periodic supervision from the health office / Puskesmas to drinking water depot during the Covid-19 period which is usually routinely carried out every 3-6 months according to regulation of ministers of health no.736,2010 concerning supervision of drinking water quality. Housing developers are required to provide a clean water source from a proper borehole from the start of housing development.
Perceptions of Sanitation Hygiene Refill Drinking Water Depot in the Region of Indonesia Endang Purnawati Rahayu Rahayu, Herniwanti Herniwanti Gaceta Medica De Caracas, 2022 Refill drinking water depots are in great demand in society because the price of drinking water is relatively lower. This condition showed that the drinking water quality in depot managers needs more attention. Sanitation hygiene of drinking water refill depots is considered to reduce the factors that cause contamination of drinking water. This study aimed to analyze the sanitation of refill drinking water depots.
