Developing and evaluating a hybrid game-based learning environment for teacher facilitation in mathematical literacy Ida Hamidah, Zulkardi, Ratu Ilma Indra Putri, Surya Amami Pramuditya Journal on Mathematics Education, 2025 Hybrid approaches in game-based mathematical literacy environments are increasingly recognized for providing varied, interactive, and adaptive learning experiences, yet games used in schools remain predominantly either digital or analog and are rarely supported by systematic teacher professional development. Consequently, the potential of culturally contextualized games to foster mathematical literacy and higher-order thinking has not been fully realized. This study develops and evaluates a hybrid teacher professional development environment designed to support teachers in facilitating a classroom-based role-playing game (RPG) contextualized in Cirebon’s religious tourism. Drawing on a design research approach adapted from Van den Akker and Guskey’s five-level evaluation framework, the study involved five mathematics teachers and their seventh-grade students. Data were collected through classroom observations, teacher reflections, questionnaires, interviews, and post-learning assessments. The findings indicate that the hybrid environment was valid and practical, with teachers reporting clearer guidance, feasible classroom integration, and greater confidence in facilitating RPG-based lessons. Evidence across Guskey’s levels suggests potential positive effects on teacher learning, instructional practice, and student engagement, while also indicating that students’ mathematical reasoning still requires further support. This study proposes a novel model that links hybrid professional development, cultural context, and game-based learning to strengthen teacher facilitation of mathematical literacy. Limitations include the small number of participating schools, the focus on Grade 7, and the short implementation duration, indicating the need for future research on longer-term effects, teacher involvement in RPG co-design, extension to other grade levels, and alternative assessment approaches.

Its absence can impede students' academic success and limit their ability to address challenges in a technology-driven world, underscoring the importance of this research in enhancing their future opportunities. A significant factor contributing to this issue is the inadequate implementation of teaching practices that support mathematical literacy in schools. To address this challenge, this study aims to develop a valid, practical, and impactful mathematical literacy learning environment for junior high school students using educational game assistance. A design research method with a developmental research approach was employed, consisting of three stages: the preliminary stage, prototype development, and evaluation. The data were analyzed through qualitative descriptive analysis. This study developed a mathematical literacy learning environment leveraging educational game technology to enhance student learning. The environment was validated in terms of content, construct, and language aspects, deemed practical for its ease of use, accessibility, flexibility, and alignment with learning objectives, and evaluated for its potential impact based on Guskey's five-levels framework. The results highlight its potential impact on improving mathematical literacy and addressing the challenges posed by inadequate teaching practices in schools. This research underscores the importance of integrating innovative educational tools to better prepare students for success in a technology-driven world.

Wahyu Hidayat, Euis Eti Rohaeti, Ida Hamidah, Ratu Ilma Indra Putri Frontiers in Education, 2023 Using ICT-based interactive learning media is a learning method that strongly supports the teaching and learning process for students and teachers during the COVID-19 pandemic. This ICT-based learning media must be easily accessible to teachers and students, and one of the interactive media that is easily accessible is android-based learning media. This development research aims to design android-based learning media on valid trigonometric material and improve students’ mathematical critical thinking skills. This development research using the ADDIE model took 121 Ipeople consisting of expert validators, user (teacher), and students. The expert validators consisted of one mathematics education material expert and one ICT expert. Meanwhile, user represented by one mathematics teacher were involved in validating the use of the media design. In addition, there were participants from among students, which included 118 class X high school students throughout the Province of West Java, Indonesia, who took part in a limited trial phase of 20 people, an extensive trial of 50 people, and a product trial of 48 people. A sample of 118 students came from high school in the medium cluster. So, the reason for taking the sample represents the condition of students both on the island of Java and in Indonesia. The results showed that the developed android-based learning media was valid and could be used without revision with a combined percentage of 87.33%, with details of material experts at 84%, media experts at 92%, and validation by mathematics teachers at 86%. The results of the practicality test on students of 81% showed that the Android-based learning media design had a strong response, so the learning media made were very practical to use. The product test results show that the achievement of mathematical critical thinking skills of students who learn to use android-based learning media is better than those who learn not to use android-based learning media.
