  • Synthesis, thermal and antimicrobial activity of novel organic single crystal of (E)-4-bromo-2-[(phenylimino)methyl]phenol compound
    R. IDAMALARSELVI, G. SWETHA, C. RAMACHANDRA RAJA, and R. PRISCILLA

    Asian Journal of Chemistry
This study focused on kinetic modelling of a specific type of multistep heterogeneous reaction comprising exothermic and endothermic reaction steps, as exemplified by the experimental kinetic curves for the thermal decomposition of (E)-4-Bromo-2-[(phenylimino)methyl]- phenol (4B2PMP) crystal. The crystal was grown by a slow evaporation method. The cell parameters and crystalline perfection of the grown crystal were studied by single and powder X-ray diffractions. Thermal stability and phase change of 4B2PMP crystal were analyzed by TG/DTA. The microhardness study has revealed the soft nature. UV-visible analysis reveals the wide range of optical window of the optical transmission from 199 nm to 1100 nm. The bandgap of the crystal is found to be 3.24 eV. The FESEM of the crystals was spherically shaped and consisted of a core-shell structure with internal aggregates. The antimicrobial activity of title crystal was tested against different microorganisms by disc diffusion method. The results reveal that the title compound have effective antimicrobial activities.

  • Double Schiff bases derivatives of chitosan by selective C-6 and C-2 oxidation mediated by 5-fluorosalicylaldehyde aniline by TG-GC-MS and TG-FTIR analysis

Abstract This enhancement in the activity may be efficient on the basis that ligands mainly possess CH=N bond. The use of a structure-based drug design approach (SBDD) provides a way for investigation as well as to understand the molecular basis of the target protein and ligand molecule interactions at the atomic level. Structure-based drug design is the design and optimization of a chemical structure to identify a compound suitable for clinical testing the drug candidates. Chitosan is a polysaccharide with recognized biological activities for improving the functionality of polysaccharide 5-Fluorosalicylaldehyde aniline system. The used for selectively oxidized chitosan to produce tailored derivatives. C-2-5-Fluorosalicylaldehyde-C-6 aniline double Schiff base derivatives of chitosan were synthesized. The structure and properties of the newly synthesized product were characterized by FT-IR, 1H-NMR, 13C-NMR, GC-Mass spectroscopy, and thermal analysis (DSC/TGA). An exothermic process discusses a DSC and TGA analysis of thermal behavior of this polymer was shown to be a possible thermal polymerization of the double bonds in the polymer chains and thermo-oxidation of the polymer. • Effect of organic dyes and polypyrrole on the efficiency of dye-sensitized solar cells
    R. Ida Malarselvi, G. Ragasudha, C. Ramachandra Raja, and R. Priscilla

    Elsevier BV
Abstract Polypyrrole films were coated on conductive glass by electrochemical deposition (alternative current of direct process). They were then used as the dye-synthesized solar cell counter electron electrodes. Scanning electron microscopy revealed that polypyrrole forms a nanoparticle like structure on the conductive glass. In the present study, two new organic dyes based on aniline and substituted 5-Nitrosalicylaldehyde with aniline were prepared and used and sensitizes in dye-sensitized solar cells. These dyes in solution and on a nano-anatase v2o5 substrate were investigated. Additionally, oxidation potential measurement were also carried out. Finally, dye-sensitized solar cells were fabricated to determine and conversion efficiency of each dye.

  • Influence of bio-based chitosan on properties of 5-nitrosalicylaldehyde-anilinenanocomposites
    R. Ida Malarselvi, C. Ramachandra Raja, J. Priscilla, and K. Viswanathan

    Elsevier BV
Abstract The biopolymeric nano composites between the crosslinks of 5nitrosalicylaldehyde- aniline composite material with chitosan a biopolymer were prepared in the form of nano thin sheets. The effect of antimicrobial activities were studied. Solution of nanoparticles was found stable in the dilute form and was characterized by UV-Visible absorption spectrum,FESEM-EDX, and XRD techniques. UV-Visible absorption spectrum has 220nm peak and has an optical band gap of 1.37 ev which provides primary information about the synthesis of core-shell and elongated nanoparticles. The phase analysis was carried out using X-ray diffraction and the result confirmed that the nano composite were single-phase. The morphological investigations by field emission scanning electron microscope (FESEM-EDX) revealed that the nano composite was mono- dispersed in a large quantity. The bio polymeri c nano composite was spherical and rod shaped respectively. The molecular mechanism of the biological properties such as antimicrobial and antioxidant has been updated .The results showed that the new bio polymeric nano composite exhibited promising antioxidant and antimicrobial activities.
