This work presents a systematic study of silicon (Si) and magnesium (Mg) doping effects on the structural and electrical properties of non-polar a-plane (11̅20) GaN grown on r-plane (1̅102) sapphire by metal–organic chemical vapor deposition. Compared with conventional c-plane GaN, a-plane GaN eliminates internal polarization fields, making it attractive for optoelectronic applications. N-type and p-type layers were doped using disilane (Si₂H₆) and bis(cyclopentadienyl)magnesium (Cp₂Mg), respectively. Atomic force microscopy (AFM) revealed increased surface roughness with dopant incorporation, while high-resolution X-ray diffraction (XRD) indicated higher basal stacking fault densities at elevated doping levels. Hall Effect measurements showed maximum carrier concentrations of 4.94 × 10 19 cm −3 for electrons and 2.13 × 10 18 cm −3 for holes. Correspondingly, the specific contact resistivity decreased to 8.88 × 10 −5 Ω·cm 2 for n-type and 2.28 × 10 −3 Ω·cm 2 for p-type GaN. This experimental paper explored the potential of the microbottle resonator (MBR) as a sensor with different structures and conditions. The silica fiber SMF‐28 is used to form the bottle structure by a method known as “soften‐and‐compress.” Three different MBR structures with similar length , stem diameter of , and bottle diameter of are formed, classed as single, cascade and cascade coating MBR. The cascade coating MBR was used to apply polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) for the coating procedure. The transmitted power was observed in all MBR conditions, where the structure and coating may influence the resonator to have a low power value, ≥ 20 dBm. The performance of the MBRs as sensors is then represented by four parameters: sensitivity, linearity, stability, and repeatability from wavelength shift and transmitted spectral evaluation. This paper investigates the use of tantalum aluminum carbide (Ta2AlC) as a passive pulse modulator for generating ultrafast mode-locked pulses in an erbium-doped fiber (EDF) laser cavity. The Ta2AlC modulator was prepared via an embedding method using polyvinyl alcohol as the host matrix, exhibiting a saturable absorption of 6.9% with a saturable intensity of 100MW/cm2. When integrated into a long EDF laser cavity, the modulator enabled the generation of a picosecond soliton pulse train. Operating within a pump range of 95.2 to 210.62 mW, the self-starting mode-locked EDF laser achieved a central wavelength of 1561.7 nm, a repetition rate of 1.866 MHz, and a pulse width of 3.80 ps.
