Full Professor, Graduate Program of Morphological Sciences
Universidade Federal do Rio de Janeiro

I graduated with a degree in developmental neurobiology from the Carlos Chagas Filho Institute of Biophysics at the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro in 1998. I completed postdoctoral training in developmental biology at UCLA, CA, USA, as a Latin American PEW Fellow from 1999 to 2002. Since 2012, I have been a Full Professor at the Institute of Biomedical Sciences of the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro. I serve as a lecturer, researcher, and advisor for Master's and Ph.D. students in the Graduate Program in Morphological Sciences. I was the Director of the Institute of Biomedical Sciences from 2019 to 2023 and coordinated outreach projects that focused on basic education, science, and practical developmental biology classes for low-income students in public schools. I have published more than 80 peer-reviewed articles and have received over 6,000 citations, achieving an H index of 36. I have been awarded as a Scientist of the Rio de Janeiro State scholar.
