  • Solar Fed FLC Based Landsman Converter for EV Applications
    L. Chitra, S. Prakash, and T. Jagan

    IEEE
Increased population and rapid depletion of fossil resources result in increasing energy consumption. These factors also make alternative energy sources necessary for conventional internal combustion engine-based cars, which increases pollution. Hence, the Electric Vehicles (EVs) are introduced. Currently, the Renewable Energy Sources (RES) based EVs are preferred worldwide to give better energy management. Solar Photovoltaic (PV) system is one of the significant RES, with zero emission results in reduced global warming. The PV system possess a limitation of irregular output power, so it is necessary to use power electronic converters for the enhancement of output voltage. Therefore, in this paper a DC-DC Landsman converter fed by PV system is proposed and it aids in improving output power of PV system. DC-link voltage maintenance at converter output is carried by Fuzzy Logic Controller (FLC), which is based on a closed loop technique. The output of the proposed method is simulated by the MATLAB. As a result, the suggested work provides improved energy management, lower THD and lower losses.

  • Utilization of Tractor Power using Front Three Point Linkage
    T Jagan and R.S. Ponpaul

    IOP Publishing
Abstract With a higher HP tractor it is difficult to take the maximum use of tractor power. Front three-point linkage has been found profitable with these tractors due to higher power requirement and also due to multiple operations in single pass. The importance of this study is to check its feasibility under Indian field conditions. Front three-point linkage are designed and fabricated according to Category II hitch requirements. Hydraulic cylinders are designed to provide hydraulic power to the front linkages. Selection of hydraulic hoses is done according to the requirements and availability. Mechanical front-wheel drive tractor is selected for the test. Laboratory test is carried out to evaluate its lifting performance. Field performance is also done to check its profitability. A field is prepared using cultivator in front and harrow in rear and the performance are calculated.

  • Design and analysis of carbon fibre composite monorack arm for motorcycle
    A Ridzuan, , T Jagan, and

    Penerbit UTHM
Monorack arm in the motorcycle is invented for the support of external topbox. However, load-bearing of the typical monorack arm made of common engineering metals is restricted to only 3 kilogram in which exceeding this load may result in failure. Therefore, alternative materials such as carbon fibre composite receives the spotlight for this project. With that being said, the project objectives were to propose several conceptual designs of monorack arm which were used to analyze with finite element methods. Next, fabrication of carbon fibre composite sample was required to perform experimental analysis. Accordingly, 3 conceptual designs of monorack arm in regard to design considerations under static stress application were established. Besides, 2 types of samples were fabricated for experimental analysis namely plain weave woven fabric carbon fibre and twill weave woven fabric carbon fibre. Samples of carbon fibre composites were fabricated to possess a higher fibre volume fraction than the matrix to add fibre strength in the composite. Final conceptual designs of monorack made were computed for structural analysis using ANSYS Workbench. During the simulation of conceptual models, design 2 of epoxy carbon woven (230 GPa) wet was found to show better structural results in comparison to other designs using the same material. Lastly, tensile test was performed on the fabricated test specimens of plain weave carbon fibre and twill weave carbon fibre according to ASTM standards whereby favourable results were shown to plain weave woven fabric carbon fibre.
