My research is centered on the future of decentralized networks, focusing on blockchain technology, Decentralized Digital Identity (DID), and asset tokenization. As a Ph.D. candidate and an active researcher in Brazil's leading R&D telecommunications center, I investigate the technical foundations of trustworthy distributed systems. My specific interests include the architectural design and monitoring of permissioned blockchain networks (utilizing frameworks like Hyperledger Besu), the evaluation of complex smart contracts, and cloud-native deployments. I am particularly interested in applying these decentralized technologies to solve high-impact challenges, such as environmental asset tokenization and sovereign data management, aiming to advance resilient network infrastructures.

Dynamic spectrum sharing is a cornerstone of Beyond 5G (B5G) networks, yet current Spectrum Access System (SAS) coordination relies on bilateral trust and complex mesh integrations that scale quadratically (O</i>(N</i>2)). This paper presents a hybrid architecture that integrates a permissioned blockchain into SAS coordination, transforming the topology into a linear (O</i>(N</i>)) shared-state model. By explicitly decoupling temporal domains, the architecture preserves low-latency REST APIs for operational spectrum requests while migrating regulatory synchronization to a distributed auditable ledger. Validated through a functional prototype, our results demonstrate that while the blockchain layer introduces higher latency than REST baselines, the performance trade-offs are fully compatible with asynchronous synchronization requirements. Furthermore, the event-driven ledger model improves bandwidth efficiency by approximately 55 times compared to traditional redundant full-dump exchanges. More importantly, the proposed architecture establishes a foundational governance layer that enables passive auditability and forensic readiness, transitioning spectrum management from a legacy trust-based model to a verifiable, proof-based cryptographic environment.
  • A Privacy-Preserving and Secure Monitoring Framework for Permissioned Blockchain Networks
Jeffson C. Sousa, Alan Veloso, Mateus Bastos, Bruno Evaristo, Antônio J. G. Abelém
2025 7th International Conference on Blockchain Computing and Applications Bcca 2025, 2025
This work proposes a decentralized monitoring architecture for blockchain networks, focusing on the inclusion of a privacy layer for permissioned environments. The solution replaces centralized monitoring systems by enabling nodes to selectively and securely share performance metrics. The federated approach ensures participant autonomy, protection of sensitive data, and improved network resilience. This contributes to strengthening distributed governance and provides a scalable, privacy-aware and and experimentally validated alternative for secure blockchain monitoring.

2025 7th International Conference on Blockchain Computing and Applications Bcca 2025, 2025
Blockchain technology has established itself as a decentralized solution capable of ensuring security, transparency, and robust process validation, profoundly transforming various sectors. This work proposes the development of an innovative marketplace for the telecommunications sector, based on blockchain, with the aim of providing a dynamic catalog of telecom services and assets. The platform enables asset and service providers to publish offers for physical resources-such as towers, antennas, and links-within an integrated market. These resources can be hired by third parties under Business-to-Business (B2B) and Business-to-Consumer (B2C) models. The architecture incorporates decentralized identity (DID), smart contracts for asset tokenization and automated billing, and a lightweight frontend. Built on Hyperledger Besu and integrated with Ethereum-compatible libraries, the system fosters digital governance, interoperability, and the sustainable use of underutilized physical assets.
  • Performance Evaluation of Decentralized Digital Identity Contracts on Ethereum-Based Blockchain Networks
Jeffson C. Sousa, Bruno Evaristo, Antonio Mateus, Ismael Ávila, Alan Veloso, Antonio J. G. Abelém
2025 7th International Conference on Blockchain Computing and Applications Bcca 2025, 2025
This paper presents a performance evaluation of smart contracts designed for managing decentralized digital identities on Ethereum-based blockchain networks. The analysis focuses on core identity lifecycle operations such as creation, update, credential schema definition, and revocation control, all implemented through Solidity smart contracts. Two execution contexts were considered: an environment using Hyperledger Besu operating in permissioned mode, and a reference to the traditional Hyperledger Indy model. The tests were conducted in a private network simulating different load levels and consensus configurations. The evaluated metrics include response time, throughput, resource usage, and scalability. The results provide insights to support the selection of efficient architectures for digital identity solutions based on Self-Sovereign Identity (SSI) and Ethereum, particularly in enterprise or regulated environments.

The architecture features decentralized identity (DID), smart contracts for asset tokenization and automated billing, and a lightweight frontend. Built on Hyperledger Besu and integrated with Ethereum-compatible libraries, the system fosters digital governance, interoperability, and sustainable use of underutilized physical assets.

  • MinIndy: Automating the Deployment and Management of Hyperledger Indy Networks
Mateus Bastos, Alan Veloso, Jeffson Sousa, Bruno Evaristo, Diego Abreu, Antônio Abelém
2024 IEEE Latin American Conference on Communications Latincom 2024 Proceedings, 2024
The Hyperledger Indy blockchain platform, aimed at identity management networks, has gained importance, but the traditional, manual approach to network management is slow and error-prone. To reduce this, this paper presents MinIndy, a framework designed to automate the installation, configuration, and management of Indy networks without sacrificing performance. Therefore, MinIndy is a viable alternative for individuals and organizations looking to adopt Indy blockchain networks with less manual intervention. It was evaluated through the performance of its network and the results show that the network built with the framework has no loss of performance compared to one built without it.
