This research was conducted from May to August 2023, with the aim of assessing the distribution of chlorophyll-a concentration and its effect on yellowfin tuna production in Ternate Island waters. The use of experimental fishing methods in collecting research data and data analysis in the form of abundance analysis, exponential regression, cross correlation, and General Aditive Models is expected to answer the research objectives. The results showed that the fluctuation of yellowfin tuna fish catch was similar to the abundance of fish stocks with the highest catch in June (14 229 kg) followed by July (11 142 kg), August (10 764 kg) and May (8 001 kg). The catch of yellowfin tuna fish is spread over a range of chlorophyll-a concentrations between 0.06 mg m-3 to 0.32 mg m-3, with an average monthly chlorophyll-a concentration of 0.22 mg m-3. Chlorophyll-a conditions in Ternate Island waters are quite fluctuating and significantly affect the catch of yellowfin tuna fish with a very strong correlation coefficient of 0.87. The results of General Aditive Models analysis found that the chlorophyll-a concentration value for potential yellowfin tuna fishing areas is > 0.01 mg m-3 with a correlation distance or time leg is in week 15.

AbstractEastern little tuna production still depends on stocks from nature, so it is feared that if production continues to increase it will threaten the sustainability of tuna resources, therefore for the sake of sustainable management information is needed on population parameters so that research is carried out from January to April 2021 with the aim of assessing the dynamics of the population of these resources. The data collection procedure was carried out by measuring the total length of the fish caught per fishing trip for 4 months using a meter with a unit (centimeter) cm and an accuracy of 1 mm. The results of the research showed that tuna in the southern waters of Ternate Island had stable growth parameters including maximum length (L∞) 68.25 cm with a growth coefficient (K) of 0.25 per month, t0 -0.20, with total mortality, natural and fishing values respectively. respectively are 0.64, 0.43, 0.21 and the level of exploitation is 0.33 where this value indicates that the rate of exploitation is smaller so it is necessary to increase fishing effort until the optimum value reaches 0.38.

  • Variability of chlorophyll-a concentration relation to fish catch of Indian mackerel in West Halmahera waters
    U Tangke, R Laisouw, W A Umagap, and Darmawaty

    IOP Publishing
Abstract The presence of chlorophyll-a is an indicator of water fertility, where the high chlorophyll-a content will be followed by the presence of zooplankton which will then affect other aquatic organisms that form the food chain. The interaction of chlorophyll-a concentration on the presence of mackerel in West Halmahera waters is unknown, so this study was carried out with the aim of examining the relationship between chlorophyll-a concentration in West Halmahera waters and mackerel catch. The use of experimental fishing methods from May to July 2020 and non-linear regression analysis and Generalized Additive Model (GAM) are expected to provide an overview of the relationship between the two research variables. The results showed that the distribution of Indian Mackerel was more in coastal areas with a chlorophyll-a concentration distribution of 0.18 - 0.39 mg/m3 which played a major role in determining the variability of the quantitative distribution of mackerel (α < 0.05) and positively correlated with a value of r = 0.819 and these results supported by predictions using GAM, where the potential fishing area for mackerel in West Halmahera waters is at a chlorophyll-a concentration value of aboutb 0.2 - 0.4 mg/m3.

  • Organoleptic Quality of Tuna Porridge Canned with Fortified Tuna Bone Meal
    U Tangke, R A Daeng, and B Katiandagho

    IOP Publishing
Abstract Porridge is a cereal based meal which may be combined with tuna meat and bone meal for improved nutritional content, particularly calcium. Good quality tuna porridge canned must be beneficial to health, of high nutritional value and acceptable to sensory organs. This research aims at obtaining a formulation of tuna porridge canned product with fortified tuna bone meal with good organoleptic quality and acceptable to the society. The use of completely randomized design with fortification treatments 0%, 1%, 2% and 3% and three repetitions in the research method is expected to present an overview of the organoleptic quality of tuna porridge canned. The research result shows that fortified tuna bone meal significantly influences the organoleptic quality of taste and texture and does not significantly influence the organoleptic quality of color and smell. The analysis using the Bayes method results in the best product of tuna porridge canned with fortified tuna bone meal 1%.

  • Distribution of sea surface temperature and chlorophyll-a concentration its correlation with small pelagic fish catch in Dodinga Bay
    U Tangke and B Senen

    IOP Publishing
Current technology development provides us convenience through utilization of data time series to improve fish catch production, which may also be performed in Dodinga Bay through an oceanographic factor analysis on small pelagic fish catch aiming at examining the role of oceanographic factors and their correlation with the distribution of small pelagic fish. The use of fishing experimental method for data collection, image analysis, statistical analysis and their interpretation is expected to answer the research objective for optimized wild fishery production. The research finds that simultaneously sea surface temperature and chlorophyll-a significantly influence pelagic fish catch with Fhit value 90.403 and significance 0.000, while partially surface temperature and chlorophyll-a are the oceanographic factors which contribute to the distribution of small pelagic fish in Dodinga Bay with r square value 0.8525 for sea surface temperature and 0.6966 for chlorophyll-a.

  • Sea surface temperature and chlorophyll-a condition of skipjack tuna (Katsuwonus Pelamis) catching area in Ternate Island marine waters
    U Tangke, F D Silooy, Rochmady, and Z Saing

    IOP Publishing
Abstract Skipjack tuna is one pelagic fish that always migrates for a condition with relevant oceanographic factors for their survival, particularly for optimum sea surface temperature and chlorophyll-a. This study conducted with the experimental fishing method from June - November 2018 in the waters of Ternate Island in observation of the optimal condition of oceanographic factors, mainly SST and Chlorophyll-a in the distribution of skipjack tuna. Employing a polynomial regression analysis, the research results show that the sea surface temperature and chlorophyll-a parameters are strictly related to the distribution of the amount of skipjack tuna caught with correlation coefficient value (r) respectively of 0.646 for sea surface temperature and 0.565 for chlorophyll-a. The optimum temperature for the skipjack tuna in the waters of Ternate Island according to the research results ranges from 27.0°C - 30.9°C, while the optimum condition of chlorophyll-a is higher than 0.2 mg/m3-0.35mg/m3, and it seems that every increment of chlorophyll-a content in water indicates an increase of the amount of skipjack tuna catch.

  • The Influence of Using Bait Types to the Number and Composition of Fishing Traps Catch in South Ternate Waters
Umar Tangke, Sitkun Deni, and Asri Aunaka

    IOP Publishing
Differences in the types of baits are thought to improve catch from fishing traps, but scientific information, especially on coral reef fish, has not been widely available. Therefore, the objective of this research is to know the amount and composition of the type of catches from fishing traps by using different types of bait on demersal fish. This research was conducted in Ngade waters of Ternate South City through experimental method with three types of bait used as treatment, such as intestines of village chicken, broken white ceramic plate, and rough fish during 16 fishing trips, where the research data were analyzed using a randomized block design. The total catch obtained during the research in 16 trips was 1,390.5 kg, consisting of 8 families, spreading on traps with ceramic plate was 513 kg, with rough fish was 410.4 kg, with village chicken’s intestines was 237.6 kg and without baits was 229.5 kg. The highest catch was found in Acanthuridae fish family species with 2,913. 30 kg and fish species from the Labridae family with 2,843.10 kg, with a composition of 16% and which is a major fish species in coral reef ecosystems. While the lowest catch was in Lethrinidae family fish species with 1,544.40 kg, with the composition of 8% which is an important type of economical fish or type of fish consumption. The result of data analysis at F test shows that the feed type treatment with Fcount is 13,017 with the significance value is 0.000 smaller than □ 0.05, so it can be concluded that the treatment with types of baits has significant influence on the catch from fishing traps.
