Characterization of nata de soya electrolyte membrane as a capacitor separator using (NH2)2 SO4 Achmad Husain, Sunarno, Susilawati, Fifin Dewi Ratnasari, Masturi E3s Web of Conferences, 2026 Tempeh and tofu production continues to grow rapidly in Indonesia. This means that the volume of liquid waste is also increasing dramatically. The problem is that most of this waste is disposed of in the environment and has the potential to pollute nature. In this study, Nata de Soya was used as a capacitor separator after undergoing a soaking process. This material was soaked for 30 minutes in an ammonium sulfate ((NH₄)₂SO₄) electrolyte solution. Researchers tested four different concentration levels, namely 22.5%, 25%, 27.5%, and 30%, to see how it performed. Characterization was performed using Cyclic Voltammetry (CV) to measure its specific capacitance and Electrochemical Impedance Spectroscopy (EIS) to measure the level of ionic conductivity. The test results show that increasing the electrolyte concentration has a positive effect on performance. After 30 minutes of soaking, the 30% concentration sample showed the highest capacitance compared to other samples, at 13.35 F/g, and also had the highest ionic conductivity, at 0.382 S/m. Based on these results, Nata de Soya membranes treated with varying electrolyte concentrations, including the 30% sample, show potential to be further explored as separator materials for environmentally friendly energy storage applications.
Carbon dots nanoparticles derived from showy Asian grapes (Medinilla speciosa) for free radical scavenger Mahardika Prasetya Aji, Angela Christa Octaviani, Syafril Rahmat Umar, Moh Harun Arrosyid, Dianica Maulina, Masturi Masturi, Ian Yulianti, Putut Marwoto, Aan Priyanto, Bebeh Wahid Nuryadin Materials Science and Technology United Kingdom, 2026 Carbon dot nanoparticles (CNPs) were synthesized from the peels of showy Asian grapes (Medinilla speciosa) using microwave irradiation for free radical scavenging. The optimal emission and absorption intensities were achieved with a 50-min irradiation duration, at wavelengths of 430 nm and 267 nm, respectively. XRD analysis revealed characteristic peaks at angles of 26.37° and 29.63°. FTIR analysis indicated that antioxidant potential is attributed to hydroxyl and carboxyl groups on the CNPs’ surface. TEM images showed diameters ranging from 2 nm to 8 nm. The CNPs exhibited 73.82% antioxidant activity at 5 mg/mL, with an IC 50 value of 6.89 ppm, indicating strong antioxidant activity. Additionally, the CNPs demonstrated good storage stability, suggesting potential applications in food supplements and biomedical materials.
Design and Impact of Waveguide-Based Teaching Aids to Enhance Students’ Scientific Literacy on Light Refraction Ian Yulianti, Mei Suhantoro, Budi Astuti, D. P Ngurah Made, Masturi, D. R Fifin, Nishfa Mufatihah, Itthipon Jeerapan Physics Educator, 2026 This study explores the development of teaching aids designed to enhance students’ scientific literacy, with a focus on the topic of light refraction. The teaching aids incorporate two types of waveguide modules: one with variations in core structure and another with variations in core refractive index. The study employed a research and development (R&D) approach using a 3D model. This study employed a quasi-experimental design using a pretest–posttest control group model, involving both an experimental class and a control class to compare the effectiveness of the developed teaching aid. The developed apparatus is intended for use in senior high schools (SMA) and vocational high schools (SMK) with a focus on engineering and applied physics. It serves as an interactive and contextual learning medium to help students understand both basic and advanced optics concepts (such as refraction, refractive index, and total internal reflection) in an engaging and meaningful way. Feasibility testing indicated that the teaching aids are suitable for use in educational settings, with an expert validity score averaging 87.5% and a small-scale feasibility score averaging 83.5%. The statistical analysis revealed a significant difference between the experimental and control groups, with the experimental group achieving higher post-test scores. The large effect size (partial [Formula: see text]) for the learning group and very large effect (partial [Formula: see text]) for test type indicate that the integration of the waveguide effectively enhanced students’ conceptual understanding and learning outcomes. In conclusion, the developed teaching aids offer a viable solution for improving students’ scientific literacy skills in the context of light refraction.
Implementation of Gamma Function Learning Using Wolfram Alpha Application to Improve Visual Thinking Ability Rahmanisa Nur Hidayati, Masturi Physics Educator, 2025 Research findings showed that students are allegedly weak in processing visual information and understanding concepts from mathematical physics problems, including the gamma function problems. The solution offered is to utilize the Wolfram Alpha application. This research was conducted on second-year Physics Education study program students using a pre-experiment one-group pre-test–post-test research design. The test instrument used four visual thinking indicators and was classified as having a good level of reliability. Furthermore, the t-test results demonstrated a statistically significant difference between the pre-test and post-test scores, suggesting that Wolfram Alpha had a beneficial impact on students’ visual thinking abilities. This work also emphasizes the role of innovative digital tools in supporting quality education, as aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG 4).
Characterization of porosity and permeability in Nata De Soya porous membranes with composition modifications N L Qodriyah, M P Aji, S H Bintari, Masturi Journal of Physics Conference Series, 2024 Nata de soya is a fermentation product derived from tofu and tempeh waste, known for its strong and stable cellulose structure. This study focuses on characterizing the porosity and permeability of nata de soya porous membranes modified with various raw material compositions. Porosity and permeability were characterized using Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) and fluid flow measurements. The results indicate that the composition of tofu and tempeh waste mixture (Composition A) produced membranes with the highest porosity (51%) and permeability (1.70191 × 10−9 m2). Membranes from tofu waste (Composition B) exhibited 47% porosity and permeability of 1.59554 × 10−9 m2, while membranes from tempeh waste (Composition C) showed 43% porosity and permeability of 1.27643 × 10−9 m2. This research demonstrates that variations in raw material composition and modification processes influence membranes’ porosity and permeability characteristics, contributing significantly to the development of biomass-based materials for filtration applications and supporting efforts toward more sustainable management of organic waste.
The influence of Arenga pinnata fibres - Reinforced orientation on tensile and fextural strength of epoxy matrix based composite R D Widodo, F B Darsono, Rusiyanto, K Mukmin, Masturi Iop Conference Series Earth and Environmental Science, 2022 The purpose of this study is to determine the tensile and flexural strength of Arenga pinnata fibres-epoxy as composite material. The Arenga pinnata fibres were soaked in 5 % NaOH solution for 2 hours. The specimens of the composite were prepared with different orientations Arenga pinnata fibres (i.e. 0° + 0°, 0° + 45°, 0° + 90°, and 45° + 90°). The Arenga pinnata fibres were mixed with epoxy and hardener also at the fibres volume percentage of 40%. The hand lay-up (HLU) process in this experiment was to produce a specimen test. The dimension of the specimen test for the tensile and flexural test was adapted from the ASTM D-3039 and ASTM D-7090 03 respectively. Results from the tensile test and flexural test of Arenga pinnata fibres reinforced epoxy composite, show the orientation 0° + 0° has the maximum of tensile and flexural strength, which are the value of tensile and flexural strength are 77.385 MPa and 76.38 MPa respectively. The tensile test shows that the fibres orientation parallel to the tensile force will give a maximum strengthening effect. The bending test shows that the orientation of the fibres across the compression force will produce maximum flexural strength.
Infusing Explicit Argumentation in Science Reading Activities: Helping Prospective Science Teachers Reduce Misconception and Foster Argumentation Skills Siswanto Siswanto, Hartono Hartono, Bambang Subali, Masturi Masturi Pegem Egitim Ve Ogretim Dergisi, 2022 Science reading activities play an important role in shaping and constructing new knowledge. The enactment of these activities was commonly used to develop scientific literacy and enhance students’ understanding. However, lack of the study focuses on reducing misconceptions and developing argumentation skills. This study, therefore, aimed to investigate the effect of reading activities infusing argumentation activities in reducing misconceptions and advancing argumentation skills. We employed a quasi-experimental (non-equivalent control group design) by involving 72 prospective science teacher students as participants divided into experimental and control groups in the same proportion. The participants in the experimental group were involved to do science reading activities infusing argumentation activities whilst the control group was engaged in only science reading activities. All the groups did these activities for four meetings of which each meeting took 90 minutes. To elicit data, we used a three-tier test to measure students’ misconceptions and a student survey to measure argumentation skills; both of which were tested before and after the learning process. The findings of the research showed argumentation activities infused in science reading activities have succeeded to reduce significantly students’ misconceptions and develop argumentation skills. In addition, argumentation activities in science reading activities also succeed to drive students to propose comprehensive arguments and to improve the scientific quality of students’ arguments. We ultimately discussed the implications arising from this study.
