GUEZOURI Mustapha
Mustapha Guezouri received the Engineer degree from the National Algerian Institute of
Telecommunications (ITOran) in 1987. He received his Master and PhD degrees in Electrical
Engineering in 1990 and 2007, respectively from the Science and Technology University in
Oran. Since 1990, he has been a Research Assistant at Signal and processing Laboratory,
University of Oran. He is currently a Professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the
University of Oran 1, Algeria. His current research interests include signal processing, neural
network, mesh networks, VANET networks and computer security.

    Unlike MANET (Mobil Ad Hoc Network), VANETs (Vehicular Ad Hoc Networks) are characterized by an unlimited number of vehicles can be equal to millions of vehicles and a high mobility. The objective of developing VANETs is to improve ITS (Intelligent Transportation Systems) in terms of road safety and efficiency in the transport field. Traditional routing protocols (packet based) used for MANETs (Mobile Ad hoc Networks) does not satisfy the routing requirements in VANETs due to high speed of vehicles. In this work we propose a routing protocol with data aggregation for VANETs, where we invoke the based point geographic routing and data aggregation. The results of our simulation with SUMO and NS-3 show that our approach can help to reduce network overload by aggregating road traffic reports without maintaining a hierarchical structure.

    We propose a new media access control (MAC) layer enabling quality of service (QoS) multicast scheme for IEEE 802.11s networks, where a unicast routing protocol called hybrid wireless mesh protocol (HWMP) is defined. The HWMP protocol is more adapted for best effort traffic that is why its usage is not suitable for real time multimedia applications. The goal of our proposed mechanism is to take into account multicast communication under QoS constraints for the IEEE 802.11s mesh networks where no QoS multicasting has been defined. Our multicasting scheme handles QoS guarantee for real time applications. Indeed, our scheme is based on finding the QoS multicast tree thanks to an end-to-end delay evaluation to cover multicast services. A QoS multicast tree is constructed based on the proactive tree HWMP mechanisms. Simulations results, using Network Simulator 3 (NS 3), show that our scheme improves data multicast transmission overhead as well as network throughput.
  • A dynamic update of the HWMP proactive tree for IEEE 802.11s based wireless mesh networks

    In this paper we propose a dynamic update of the HWMP (Hybrid Wireless Mesh Protocol) proactive tree by changing dynamically the path request (PREQ) transmission interval, instead of a periodic fixed value as defined in the IEEE 802.11s draft. Indeed, we adapt dynamically the value of the PREQ transmission interval according to the wireless environment characteristics and to the amount of traffic flows generated by applications within the considered environment. Thereby, we expect improving the routing table accuracy and minimizing the path recovery delays with less overhead for critical applications. Simulations results using Network Simulator 3 (NS-3) show that our proposed dynamic and non periodic PREQ transmission interval gives better results than a fixed periodic transmission interval value.
  • Performance evaluation of the HWMP proactive tree mode for IEEE 802.11s based Wireless Mesh Networks

    The IEEE 802.11s standard defines a path selection algorithm, named HWMP (Hybrid Wireless Mesh Protocol) which combines on-demand path selection mode with a proactive tree building mode. The proactive tree building mode in HWMP periodically maintains the routing table according to a constant value. Varying this value will affect directly the number of messages transmission, the accuracy of the routing table and delays for path recovery. Frequent messages transmission will cause high overhead but improves the accuracy of the routing table. On the other hand, big tree updates intervals may cause long delays for path recovery in case of a broken link. In this paper we propose a performance evaluation of the HWMP proactive tree mode. Indeed, we vary the periods of messages transmitted for two different topologies of Wireless Mesh Network (WMN) functioning as a backbone based on IEEE 802.11s standard and generating the same traffic. By consequent we expect improving QoS requirement.
