• Barberry leaves as an alternative to green tea made from indigenous herbal ingredients

Bio Web of Conferences, 2024
In contemporary times, the use of plant-based alternatives for conventional black tea has gained significance as a result of the prevailing clichés around healthy eating. It is suggested to utilise the leaves of barberry (Berberis vulgaris) as a raw material for tea production in industries, instead of using berries. Special investigations have demonstrated that some types of woody and shrub plants in Kazakhstan possess the unique ability to accumulate heavy metals in their leaves. These plants serve as bioindicators of pollution in the region. Common barberry (Berberis vulgaris) does not possess a notable capacity to absorb heavy metals. The authors have formulated the raw material composition and brewing process, elucidated the health-enhancing properties of tea, and evaluated the potential of barberry leaves (Berberis vulgaris) as a substitute for green tea. An analysis was conducted to determine the microelement composition of barberry leaves in terms of mineral elements. The investigation of using indigenous wild and cultural flora as a possible supply of essential raw materials for the development of tea substitutes and tea beverages is a topic of study in several places worldwide.
• Original illustrated tasks with photos of regional plants for botany knowledge control and consolidation
Mikhail Klimenko, Nataliya Tarasovskaya, Sholpan Hamzina, Bulat Zhumadilov, Bibigul Zhumabekova
International Journal of Evaluation and Research in Education, 2024

This article addresses one of the current issues in education: the use of resources in biological disciplines classes that are required for students to develop meta-subject competencies. The incorporation of natural objects into educational content can create a favorable environment for teaching biology classes and assist students in developing necessary knowledge about regional flora. The authors created a set of integrated plant tasks that require knowledge of ecology, plant physiology, and evolution. The main goal of tasks is to learn about regional plant species and to control what you have learned. Certain activities are specifically created for hands-on engagement with nearby natural entities to determine their taxonomic classification, morphological characteristics, and adaptations. This approach, according to the authors, ensures productivity in biology teaching.

• Retraction: Expansion of Phalacrocorax carbo in reservoirs of the North-Eastern Kazakhstan (BIO Web of Conferences (2024) 116 (03011) DOI: 10.1051/bioconf/202411603011)

Initial data regarding the helminth fauna of the great cormorant (Phalacrocorax carbo) in the Pavlodar region of Kazakhstan have been acquired. The parasite fauna of the great cormorant is influenced by its diet of fish and consists of two fully developed helminth species - the nematode Contracaecum rudolphii Hartwich, 1964 and the cestode Ligula interrupta Rudolphi, 1810. An incidental finding was made when cestodes and their broken pieces were found in the intestines of cormorants. These cestodes were recognised as belonging to the genus Cyathocephalus, which is known to solely parasitize fish in its adult stage. Metacercariae of trematodes, specifically from the family Strigeidae, were found. These parasites are very new to fish intestines and are not commonly found in birds that consume fish. The growing population of great cormorants in the Ertis basin may introduce new kinds of helminths, some of which could have significant implications for the spread of diseases among animals. The prevalence of parasites in cormorants is a significant concern and has the potential to facilitate the transmission of nematodes and cestodes among other species, including fish-eating birds, poultry, fish, and aquatic invertebrates. This creates localised areas where nematodes and ligulidoses can thrive.

• Creating environment for students to make interdisciplinary competences in botany
Mikhail Klimenko, Nataliya Tarasovskaya, Sholpan Khamzina, Bulat Zhumadilov, Bibigul Zhumabekova
E3s Web of Conferences, 2023
The authors have developed an innovative botanical course that integrates genetic ideas into the botany curriculum. The process of choosing regional relics was conducted with the aim of illustrating the notions of full and partial dominion. This paper presents a novel phenetic approach for examining population genetic trends via the analysis of discrete alternative characteristics. In order to achieve this purpose, it is recommended to choose plant specimens from the local area that have significant morphological variety. This will allow students to actively participate in the collecting and study process during trips. The educational institution’s curriculum integrates research components and cultivates the growth of mathematical statistical skills for the purpose of conducting quantitative analysis of results. The exploitation of currently available regional objects demonstrates the concept of the law of homologous series in genetic diversity and mutagenesis in plants. One of the recommended papers provides a detailed and concentrated overview of the developmental cycles seen in the primary plant categories. The investigation of hybridization in plants is often undertaken via the examination of this phenomena over a diverse range of plant species, including both widely dispersed wild plants and cultivated varieties. These botanical specimens have the capacity to engage in crossbreeding, leading to the emergence of hybrids that may occur either naturally or by deliberate human intervention.
• Experimental work as one aspect of the environmental education activities for rural schools in Republic of Kazakhstan
Aktoty Kozhanova, Sholpan Khamzina, Mikhail Klimenko, Nataliya Tarasovskaya, Bibigul Zhumabekova
E3s Web of Conferences, 2023
The experimental work is one of actual directions of modern ecological education modernization. Worldwide we can often see the modern comfortable and functional campuses and buildings that harmonize with the environment around. The Republic of Kazakhstan Government accepted new National project “Green Kazakhstan” which describes the creation favorable environment for the population, sustainable development, biological education and modernizing the ecological mind of population. The environmental education plays a special role in the practical activities in school, helps to form necessary competences for students they can use in their life. Every school in Kazakhstan has its own experimental site (plot) where teacher and students can realize different environmental experiments and observe the natural objects etc. Authors consider this method of work the most reasonable for ecological breeding, as well as these activities are one of the most interesting for students. Experimental work may serve as a specific indicator for the environmental education result.
