Machine learning models for predicting morphological traits and optimizing genotype and planting date in roselle (Hibiscus Sabdariffa L.) Fazilat Fakhrzad, Warqaa Muhammed ShariffAl-Sheikh, Mohammed M. Mohammed, Heidar Meftahizadeh Scientific Reports, 2025 Accurate prediction and optimization of morphological traits in Roselle are essential for enhancing crop productivity and adaptability to diverse environments. In the present study, a machine learning framework was developed using Random Forest and Multi-layer Perceptron algorithms to model and predict key morphological traits, branch number, growth period, boll number, and seed number per plant, based on genotype and planting date. The dataset was generated from a field experiment involving ten Roselle genotypes and five planting dates. Both RF and MLP exhibited robust predictive capabilities; however, RF (R² = 0.84) demonstrated superior performance compared to MLP (R² = 0.80), underscoring its efficacy in capturing the nonlinear genotype-by-environment interactions. Permutation-based feature importance analysis further revealed that planting date had a more significant impact on trait variation than genotype. To identify optimal combinations of genotype and planting date for maximizing morphological traits, the RF model was integrated with the Non-dominated Sorting Genetic Algorithm II (NSGA-II). According to the RF-NSGA-II optimization results, the optimal values, including 26 branches per plant, a growth period of 176 days, 116 bolls per plant, and 1517 seed numbers per plant, were achieved with the Qaleganj genotype planted on May 5. Collectively, these findings highlight the potential of integrating machine learning and evolutionary optimization algorithms as powerful computational tools for crop improvement and agronomic decision-making.
EFFECT OF SPRAYING WITH FOLIC ACID AND YEAST EXTRACT ON THE GROWTH, YIELD AND CALCIUM OXALATE CONCENTRATION OF SPINACH (SPINACIA OLERACEA L.) M.Z.K. AL-MHARIB, R.M. AL-UBAIDY, M.M. MOHAMMED Applied Ecology and Environmental Research, 2022 An experiment was conducted according to randomized complete block design (RCBD) with three replications during the winter growing season of 2019-2020 at the Department of Horticulture and Landscape Gardening Design, College of Agricultural Engineering Sciences, University of Baghdad, Iraq, to investigate the response of spinach plants to different levels of exogenous application of Folic acid and yeast and their interactions in terms of growth, yield, and quality traits. The experiment included two factors the first was Folic acid (0,100 and150 mg.l) symbolized as F0, F1 and F2, respectively. The second factor was foliar spraying with three levels of yeast extract (0,5 and10 g/l) symbolized as Y0, Y1 and Y2, respectively. According to the results the outcome of the F2 treatment (150 mg. l) was a highly significant effect on all growth and yield traits. Also, Y1 (5 mg.l) showed better results for all of the same characteristics except dry matter %, where Y2 treatment (10 g.l) showed the highest value. Based on the results the F2Y1 treatment showed the best performance with a plant height of 46.47 cm, leaf width of 13.45 cm, number of leaves at 11.54 leaf.plant, leaf area of 147.35 cm.plant, oxalate at 61.36 mg.100 fresh weight, yield per plot at 8.29 kg and total yield of 27.63 ton.ha, while F2Y2 treatment gave the highest percentage of dry matter 8.43% and the lowest percentage of nitrate 0.17%.

Disadvantages of using Nano-particles as fertilizers in Iraq Mohammed Mahmood Mohammed Iop Conference Series Earth and Environmental Science, 2021 Abstract The agriculture around the world faced many difficulties and the important was to reduce inputs of chemical fertilizers and pesticides and increase the total yield specially with the continuous grow of populations numbers at the world expected to reach more than 9 billion by 2050. In other hand there are other problems which make the challenges bigger such as wars, biotic and abiotic stress, and diseases. The scientists tried to find solutions by using Nano-fertilization which consider a modern way to quickly grow up the yield and decrease use the chemicals. The use of nanotechnology may be destructive on human and the environment due to fast accumulation in the tissues of alive bodies which obligate the researchers to find the correct method and doses of Nano fertilizers for the different plants beside the attempt to use fertilizer environment friendly with high efficiency on growth and yield. Many products of nanotechnology were used in agriculture as fertilizers, pesticides, and water purification and while these products use expand, we need to make our steps fast to be careful of the advantages use which may appears in the future on human health and his environments. In Iraq there is many of challenges faced plant production such as wars, migrations, pollutions, and salinity so a lot of farmers found that Nano-fertilizers are a good technique to reduce their loss while there are many studies cautioned of bad use of nanomaterials which its dangerous is bigger than chemicals due its ability to permeability and accumulations.
