Art education in initial teacher training: active methodologies as a didactic resource in the training Mónica Oliveira European Public and Social Innovation Review, 2025 Introduction: This article analyses how art education, through active methodologies, can be integrated into initial teacher training in Portugal, focusing on students' perceptions of it. Methodology: A qualitative single-case study was carried out, using an online questionnaire answered by 148 final-year students on master's programmes in Pre-School Education and Pre-School Education in parallel with the 1st Cycle of Basic Education at six institutions in Portugal. Results: The majority of students value active methodologies because they increase interest in the content, foster a dynamic educational environment and facilitate the connection with the artistic process. They highlight benefits such as promoting an active attitude, collaborative work and self-learning. However, they point out disadvantages such as insecurity in learning, difficulties in organising study and the need for maturity on the part of the students. Conclusions: The students suggest the need to review current teaching practices in order to improve the quality of their training and their professional profile. This study emphasises the importance of continually adapting and reassessing teaching strategies in order to respond effectively to the demands and characteristics of future educators.
Cultural and arts education in focus according to the perceptions of future teachers Sandra Mónica Oliveira, Carol Gillanders European Public and Social Innovation Review, 2024 Introducción: La educación cultural y artística impacta en la conciencia cultural, apreciación del patrimonio, creatividad, sensibilidad y habilidades interpersonales y emocionales. Este estudio busca identificar las prácticas culturales de futuros docentes y su percepción sobre la importancia de integrar la educación cultural y artística en la educación primaria. Metodología: Se realizó un estudio descriptivo con 107 estudiantes de España y Portugal, utilizando una encuesta mixta de 25 ítems para analizar sus percepciones. Resultados: Los resultados muestran una escasa participación en la vida cultural y artística, aunque se reconoce la necesidad de integrar la educación cultural y artística en la educación primaria. Discusión: Existe una incongruencia entre las creencias y las acciones personales, ya que, a pesar de valorar la educación cultural y artística, los estudiantes participan poco en actividades culturales. Conclusiones: Es crucial fomentar una mayor coherencia entre creencias y comportamientos, promoviendo una implicación más activa en actividades culturales para mejorar la integración de la educación cultural y artística en la educación primaria.
Art Education today From contemporary dystopias to sustainable societies Mónica Oliveira, Ana Sousa Human Review International Humanities Review Revista Internacional De Humanidades, 2022 Este artículo pretende identificar los retos a los que se enfrenta la educación artísti- ca en la formación inicial del profesorado y enumerar los aspectos que deben guiar las nuevas prácticas pedagógicas orientadas a la sostenibilidad. Se ha optado por una investigación cualitativa basada en un estudio de casos múltiples, mediante una entrevista a profesores de enseñanza superior en Portugal y España. Las con- clusiones apuntan a la necesidad de una refundación de la educación artística a la luz de los retos de la sociedad, que haga a los alumnos partícipes de la construcción de una ciudadanía activa.
ICT and their effect on motivation and performance in Visual Art. An action-research proposal Sara Lede Rey, Cristina Varela Casal, Monica Oliveira Visual Review International Visual Culture Review Revista Internacional De Cultura, 2022 La presente investigación muestra los resultados obtenidos, en relación a las variables rendimiento académico y motivación, de un programa educativo basado en el empleo de las TIC. Se propone un estudio cuasi-experimental, adoptando un diseño “pre test-pos test-test recuerdo” con un grupo control que recurre a procedimientos manuales y un grupo experimental que emplea herramientas TIC.Para medir las variables se emplearon; dos cuestionarios validados, una lista de cotejo y una rúbrica consensuada por comité de expertos. Los resultados revelan que la implementación de metodologías TIC no supone mejora en el rendimiento ni aumento en la motivación del alumnado.
