Understanding and mitigating the causes and effects of oceanic dead zones Sarvar Aliev, Ishimbaev Rafael Nailevich, Zaeid Ajsan Salami, Deepa Rajesh, Ashutosh Pandey International Journal of Aquatic Research and Environmental Studies, 2025 Ocean dead zones—regions with critically low oxygen levels—adversely affect marine life, global ecosystems, and fisheries. Ocean dead zones derive from hypoxia caused by nutrient pollution, primarily from agricultural runoff combined with poorly regulated wastewater and industrial effluent discharges. Pollution promotes excessive algal blooms, and when these blooms die, decomposition leads to hypoxia. The massive dead zone caused by pollution in the Mississippi River's moat is the paradigm case. This paper focuses on the main impacts of eutrophication and the consequences of climate change on ocean circulation, along with their socio-economic impacts. Other socio-economic drivers are examined as case studies to substantiate the need for policy change. This research utilizes remote sensing to model dead zones, integrate a suite of biological monitoring methods, and design control measures to eliminate dead zones and mitigate eutrophication. Promising outcomes anticipate policy harmonization and techno-economic reengineering to combat the extreme proliferation of zones killed on ocean health and the marine economy.
Industrial Accident Analysis and Predictive Models for Workplace Hazard Prevention Eswara Veera Raghava Rao, Ashutosh Pandey Disaster Advances, 2025 Accidents are a constant problem in numerous enterprises and they greatly affect workers and project results. This study aims to find out what caused these crashes, focusing on how worker-related, environmental and managerial factors all interact with each other. The goal is to find the main factors affecting Workplace Hazard Prevention (WHP) and make a model that can predict the future to lower risks. This study uses an ensemble machine learning (EML) approach to show Industrial Accident Analysis and Predictive Models for Workplace Hazard Prevention (IAA-PM-WHP). An analysis is conducted on a publicly accessible collection of 65,518 workplace injury reports from the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), using four distinct ML models. This study suggested a way to build a model that takes into account three important factors: "type of damage," "kind of event," and "harmed organ." The EML model integrates predictions from four fundamental ML methodologies via soft voting. Among classic ML models, the RF method had the greatest accuracy (0.89), indicating robust overall prediction power. The EML method outperformed all models, attaining the greatest accuracy (0.92), precision (0.99), recall (0.899), F1-score (0.94) and AUC (0.92).

Unveiling the Climate Change Impact and Suitability Assessment of CMIP5 and CMIP6 Emission Scenarios for the Mahanadi Reservoir Project Complex, Chhattisgarh Yogita Chakravaishya, Pooja Singh, Jayant Damodar Supe, Shashikant Verma, Shweta Katre, et al. Journal of Water Management Modeling, 2025 Evaluation of future temperature and precipitation is essential for managing water supplies, reducing the impact of natural disasters, and expanding agricultural opportunities. In the present study, recently released Coupled Model Intercomparison Project Phase 6 (CMIP6) and CMIP5 were analyzed concerning the Mahanadi Reservoir Project (MRP), Complex, Chhattisgarh. The Statistical Downscaling Model (SDSM) projected climatic variables of shared socioeconomic pathways and representative concentration pathways (SSPs-RCPs) such as SSPs 245, SSPs 585, and RCP 4.5, and RCP 8.5, respectively, for two different timescales (2023–2060, 2061–2099). In recognition of subsequent timescales, the chosen GCM CCCmaCanESM2 was found to be the most efficient among CMIP5, whereas MPI-ESM1-2-HR was used for CMIP6. Higher temperatures and less precipitation are predicted in high-emission scenarios (SSP5-8.5 and RCPs 8.5) compared to mid-emission scenarios (SSP2-4.5 and RCPs 4.5). Therefore, the findings of this study could be utilized to forecast the hydrological cycle and analyze the sustainability of the environment. Furthermore, this study will be relevant for future water resource management and adaptation efforts.
Flood Hazard: A QGIS Plugin for Assessing Flood Consequences Shashikant Verma, Darshan Mehta, Ashutosh Pandey, Shree Ram Malani, Rakesh Pandey, et al. Journal of Water Management Modeling, 2024 Flash floods cause substantial harm to the social and economic aspects of the affected countries. This is a significant problem in urban areas where drainage systems are inadequate and unable to withstand severe flooding. Understanding the specific regions that are susceptible to flooding is essential to implement strategies aimed at mitigating the risk. Detecting floods in ungauged basins is challenging. The current work aims to establish a practical method for identifying and mapping floodplain areas. We can use several tools, including the FLO-2D integration tool, Flood Risk tool, Geomorphic Flood Area plugin, and Quantum Geographical Information System (QGIS) with Hydrologic Engineering Centre River Analysis System (HEC-RAS) to efficiently and cost-effectively detect flood hazard zones. The QGIS tool, the Geomorphic Flood Index (GFI), is the most valuable tool for identifying flood-prone areas in cases where the areas are extensive and lack sufficient data. This tool offers high data analysis and cost calculation precision while using few resources.
