A hybrid ANN–QPSO algorithm to predict and optimise the tool wear and surface roughness in CNC turning of EN24 alloy steel T. Kannan, M. Navaneetha Krishnan, R. P. Sumithra Australian Journal of Mechanical Engineering, 2026 EN24 alloy steel is widely used in automotive and aerospace industries due to its high strength. Optimising surface roughness and tool wear is essential for high-precision machining of EN24 alloy steel. Nevertheless, the nonlinearity of the interaction between machining parameters is extremely high, and traditional statistical methods cannot give a good forecast and concurrent optimisation of surface roughness and tool wear. This study proposes a hybrid framework combining artificial neural network (ANN) and quantum particle swarm optimisation (QPSO) to predict and optimise tool wear and surface roughness in CNC turning of EN24. Thirty-one experiments were conducted by varying the depth of cut, cutting speed, nose radius, and feed rate. The ANN–QPSO model obtained RMSE = 0.0270 mm, MAE = 0.0211 mm, and R2 = 0.7176 when predicting tool wear, and for surface roughness, it gave RMSE = 0.1886 µm, MAE = 0.1062 µm, and R2 = 0.6441. Cutting speed and feed rate were the predominant factors influencing the surface roughness and tool wear, respectively. The best machining parameters derived using QPSO were a cutting speed of 315.851 m/min, a feed rate of 0.061 mm/rev, a depth of cut of 1.367 mm, and a nose radius of 1.216 mm, which gave a minimum predicted tool wear of 0.1167 mm and a surface roughness of 1.6001 µm. The ANN–QPSO model was found to be reliable in the optimisation of the machining process. The framework may serve as a reference model for Industry 4.0-enabled adaptive manufacturing systems, particularly for precision machining of EN24 steel.

INFLUENCE OF ACOUSTIC EMISSION SIGNALS AND DAMAGE ANALYSIS DURING THE TENSILE TEST ON Al8011 HYBRID COMPOSITES BY STIR CASTING METHOD C.R. Kannan, S. Suresh, M. Navaneetha Krishnan Archives of Metallurgy and Materials, 2023 Metal network compounds have primary properties. the use of lightweight and low vitality is a testament to the growing interest in the automotive industry. aluminum alloys, due to their advanced physical, mechanical and tribological properties, have become a highly emerging material for a variety of industrial applications and the importance of efficient material selection is explained. in this paper, an al8011 hybrid metal matrix composite is developed through the stir casting process. the different weight proportions of B 4 C (3%, 6%, 9% & 12%) and fixed proportions of 2% MoS 2 have been used. Composite developed are subjected to mechanical properties evaluation and seawater corrosion studies following standard procedures. to study the porosity of the composite samples, theoretical density and actual density are calculated. an acoustic emission system-assisted tensile test is carried out to report the strength of the composite. From this experimental method, adding reinforcement can increase the tensile strength and hardness of the composites. under sea water, the increase in reinforcement found an increase in corrosion resistance. Fractured surfaces were perused using SeM and eDS analysis.
Effect of B4C on strength coefficient, cold deformation and work hardening exponent characteristics of Mg composites S. Suresh, M. Navaneetha Krishnan, S.C. Vettivel Journal of Magnesium and Alloys, 2022 The emphasis of this exploration was to examine the workability and work hardening performance of Mg (Magnesium) specimen and Mg-B4C composites created via the powder metallurgy technique. The pure Mg and Mg-B4C composites are made with distinct weight percentages (Mg-5% B4C, Mg-10% B4C, and Mg-15% B4C) at the unit aspect ratio. The powders and composites characterization are executed by SEM (Scanning Electron Microscope), EDS (Energy Dispersive Spectrum) with an elemental map, and XRD (X-ray Diffraction) examination. It displays that, the B4C particles were dispersed consistently with the Mg matrix. The workability and work hardening examination was conducted in triaxial stress conditions using the cold deformation process. The consequence of workability stress exponent factor (βσ), distinct stress proportion factors (σm/σeff and σθ/σeff), instantaneous work hardening exponent (ni), work hardening exponent (n), coefficient of strength (k) and instantaneous coefficient of strength (ki) are recognized. The outcome displays that Mg-15% B4C specimen has greater workability and work hardening parameter, initial relative density, and triaxial stresses compared with the Mg specimen and Mg-(5–10%) B4C composites.
