Intrusion Detection (ID) in network communication and Wireless Sensor Networks (WSN) is a big challenge that has grown with the rapid development of these technologies. Various types of intrusion attacks may occur to the transferred data of such networks and various ID methods and algorithms have been proposed. One powerful tool used in this field is Machine Learning (ML), which has achieved satisfied detection results. However, these results with the available ID datasets can be further improved. This paper proposes an accurate approach for ID in the network and WSN using ML methods including chaotic map, Nomadic People Optimizer (NPO), and Support Vector Machine (SVM). The proposed approach has five main stages which are: data collection, pre-processing, feature selection, classification, and evaluation. An improved version of NPO based on chaotic map and Cauchy mutation called CNPO is proposed. The proposed scheme uses chaotic maps to initialize the population and Cauchy mutation for solution distribution. Besides, the proposed fitness function based on SVM is proposed. The CNPO is employed for the feature selection task. The proposed approach was evaluated in two datasets, NSL-KDD, and WSN-DS, with accuracy of 99.97% and 99.99, respectively.
  • The Effect of Curcumin and Cornstarch Biopolymers on the Shelf Life of Fresh Cheese: Physicomechanical and Antimicrobial Properties
Yasir Qasim Almajidi, Andrew Ng Kay Lup, Andrés Alexis Ramírez‐Coronel, Abbas F. Almulla, Ali Alsudani, et al.
    Starch Staerke, 2024
Natural polymers are used more frequently in packaging as alternatives to synthetic plastics. Cornstarch is one of the cheapest carbohydrate biopolymers that form films with suitable properties and appearance but considerably larger hydrophilicity and low mechanical characteristics compared to synthetic films. Incorporating curcumin into cornstarch films improves mechanical and antimicrobial properties and curcumin release into aqueous solutions of the films. The results show that the introduction of curcumin decreases the water solubility of the edible films from 3.58% to 1.49% and the moisture absorption from 2.87% to 1.94% (p < 0.05) and increases the length of films from 40% to 80% without changing their thickness. Examination of color properties shows that the increased curcumin concentration leads to a decrease in transparency and an increase in the redness and yellowness indices. These properties change from 72.2, 3.5, and 5.1 to 39.2, 21, and 13.7, respectively. The number of mold and yeast colonies in the cheese sample decreases during the storage period of 5 days. Generally, the findings indicate that the bioactive film of corn starch and curcumin (0.5%) can be used as a suitable coating for food products.

The Internet of Things (loT) facilitates the interconnection of a vast array of devices, services, and individuals for data exchange in multi-domain loT ecosystems, the social, physical, and cyber domains. That emerges various security, privacy, and trust issues, such as vulnerabilities, threats, and attacks. Addressing these challenges requires innovative solutions. New controls (solutions) are needed. Trust by design can be one of these controls, supporting security and privacy (among other system components). This paper proposes a Trusted loT (TloT), a trust-by-design model, and highlights the author's principal contributions. First, it advocates for implementing Tlo T through trust services. Second, it outlines an architecture for using trust by design in loT, including the design of its top-level structure and activities. Minor contributions include overviews of loT and trust, as well as looking at security and privacy in terms of security services and privacy services, respectively.
  • Handwritten signature identification based on MobileNets model and support vector machine classifier

Bulletin of Electrical Engineering and Informatics, 2023
Biometrics is a field that uses behavioral and biological traits to identify/verify a person. Characteristics include handwrittien signature, iris, gait, and fingerprint. Signature-based biometric systems are common due to their simple collection and non-intrusive. Identify the humans using their handwritten signatures has received an important attention in several modern crucial applications such as in automatic bank check, law-enforcements, and historical documents processing. Therefore, in this paper an accurate handwritten signatures system is proposed. The system uses a proposed preprocessing stage for the input handwritten signatures images. Besides, a new deep learning model called MobileNets, which used for classification process. Support vector machine (SVM) used as a classifier with the MobileNets inorder to get a better identifaction results. Experimental results conducted on standard CEDAR, ICDER, sigcomp handwritten signature datasets report 99.8%, 98.2%, 99.5%, identification accuracy, respectively.

Compared to a photovoltaic array, a photovoltaic/thermal concentrator module can produce thermal power for various productions in downstream cycles in addition to electrical energy. In this study, the system for the combined production of electricity, heat and cooling based on a photovoltaic/thermal concentrator has been evaluated. In this triple production system, a lithium bromide-water absorption chiller with a cooling capacity of 5 kW was used. In the organic Rankine power generation cycle, the annual exergy rate of the incoming stream was almost 48 MWh, the annual production exergy rate was about 54.4 MWh and the annual exergy destruction rate was ~43.1 MWh. According to the results, the freshwater production rate of the desalination plant was approximately 56.7 m3/year; the lowest month was 3.8 m3 in November.
