Power Quality Enhancement in Standalone DFIG-Based Wind Farms Using E2PLL-Controlled D-Statcom M.Manohara, Y.N. Vijaya kumar, S. Sridhar Ssrg International Journal of Electrical and Electronics Engineering, 2025 Independent wind farms with Doubly Fed Induction Generators (DFIGs) often experience major overvoltage, harmonic distortion, and other power quality concerns, as well as transient disturbances [1]. This study implements a D-STATCOM system combined with Phase-Locked Loop (PLL) control to address voltage stability and enhance dynamic reactive power compensation [2]. The PLL-based control locks the system voltage, enabling synchronous operation and effective harmonic filtering [2]. A phase controller is incorporated within the D-STATCOM to further improve system response to increase damping against frequency variations and slow voltage magnitude changes. The created system is modeled in the MATLAB/Simulink platform, simulated, with the capability of DFIG-based wind farms to reduce power quality issues studied. Results demonstrate significant improvements in voltage stability, a marked reduction in harmonic content, and enhanced overall power quality performance [3]. These findings reinforce the potential of advanced D-STATCOM configurations in supporting reliable, high-quality power delivery from independent renewable energy sources [4].
A Novel Modified Multilevel Inverter for Improved Performance in Renewable Energy Systems Parimalasundar E, Muthukaruppasamy S, Sendil Kumar S, Dharmaprakash R, Jayakumar S, Nageswara Prasad T Ssrg International Journal of Electrical and Electronics Engineering, 2025 Multilevel Inverters (MLIs) are crucial in photovoltaic (PV) systems since they enhance efficiency, reduce Total Harmonic Distortion (THD), and minimize switching losses. There is a comparison between the Cascaded H-Bridge (CHB), the Flying Capacitor (FC), the Neutral Point Clamped (NPC), and a modified MLI design, which is shown in this research. The redesigned inverter, which consists of three DC sources, four diodes, and seven switches, achieves an efficiency of 98%, which is higher than the CHB (96%), FC (95%), and NPC (96%). The performance of the inverter is validated using simulations conducted in MATLAB/Simulink, which include a wide range of modulation indices and load conditions. While the modified topology reduces total power loss to 180W, it produces 308.75V with a THD of 7.3% at m=0.95. In contrast, cascaded H-bridges produce 200W and neutral point clamped MLIs produce 220W. A power factor of 0.93 and an efficiency of 93% are achieved by the system when it is subjected to conditions of resistive-inductive load interaction. In comparison to conventional topologies, the MLI that has been proposed reduces switching and conduction losses by around fifteen percent, which guarantees greater voltage balancing and fault tolerance via its implementation. In addition, the inverter functions in a manner that guarantees consistent operation via the use of a simplified control mechanism, which makes it an economical choice for grid-connected solar applications. Based on the findings of the research, it has been established that the redesigned design has increased power quality by a substantial amount, decreased harmonic distortions, and enhanced system reliability, therefore establishing it as a viable alternative for the future generation of renewable energy systems.
Economic Load Dispatch Using Novel Bat Algorithm Applying Doppler Effect Kartik Malhotra, Adil Ahmed, Ajay Shyam, T. Nageswara Prasad, Rajeshkumar Muthu, Rani Chinnappa Naidu 2022 7th International Conference on Environment Friendly Energies and Applications Renewable and Sustainable Energy Systems Hybrid Transportation Systems Energy Transition and Energy Security Efea 2022 Proceedings, 2022 Electric power plants are located at far off places from demand centers. Due to this the transmission losses become considerably high and thereby a penalty is becoming imposed on plants to generate additional power to meet these transmission losses. ELD, or Economic Load Dispatch, is used in this situation. ELD is the phenomenon where electric power generating units are combined such that the load demand and operational constraints, including various losses, are satisfied with minimum operating cost. This is a widely researched area and the solution can be obtained through various techniques and algorithms such as Bat Algorithm. This study introduces the Doppler effect and the movement of bats across various environments using the Novel Bat Algorithm (NBA). Six generating stations are used to analyse this method's performance.
Particle Swarm Optimization Approach for Cost Minimization of Hybrid Renewable Energy Sources Arpit Johari, Naved Khan, T. Nageswara Prasad, Derick Mathew, Rajeshkumar Muthu, Rani Chinnappa Naidu 2022 7th International Conference on Environment Friendly Energies and Applications Renewable and Sustainable Energy Systems Hybrid Transportation Systems Energy Transition and Energy Security Efea 2022 Proceedings, 2022 Optimizing Hybrid Renewable Energy Sources (HRES) is needed in many aspects. As the population and needs continuously increase, HRES becomes much more necessary as the current technologies cannot satisfy the entire demand. This paper uses MATLAB programming and Simulink to perform the optimization and uses the Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) for optimization, which is considered one of the best algorithms. There are many isolated and remote communities and cities in the world that cannot connect physically or low budget to a grid for the power supply. There is a large amount of electricity demand in these areas, which is being delivered by the small as well as isolated diesel generators, which is not easy to operate. These diesel generators require a very high cost to operate due to the short supply of crude fuels in these areas and problems in fuel delivery with the complex maintenance of the diesel generators. HRES, such as solar Photovoltaic (PV) as well as wind generators, proposed a feasible alternative for power generation in off-grid communities. Many HRES system have been deployed worldwide, as well as they serve a large variety of applications.
A Bio-inspired Meta-heuristic Optimization approach for Economic Load Dispatch Rishabh Bhargava, Manas Dixit, Ishan Gupta, T. Nageswara Prasad, Rajeshkumar Muthu, Rani Chinnappa Naidu 2022 7th International Conference on Environment Friendly Energies and Applications Renewable and Sustainable Energy Systems Hybrid Transportation Systems Energy Transition and Energy Security Efea 2022 Proceedings, 2022 Scarcity of energy resources, rising electricity generating costs, environmental impacts, and ever-increasing demand for electrical power need optimal economic dispatch in the modern scenario. The expense of generator fuel determines the percentage of a power plant's operating costs, which are minimized via optimal load dispatch (OLD). The OLD problem is determining the best and cheapest power generating strategy among a set of on-line producing units to supply the whole power requirements at a particular period. This paper presents bio-inspired meta-heuristic Ant Lion Optimizer (ALO) techniques to solve the economic load dispatch problem. The main objective of this paper is to reduce the generation fuel cost while meeting equality and inequality requirements. The obtained results demonstrate that the proposed approach can significantly reduce generating expenses even while satisfying the constraints (Power Stability as well as Generation Limit).
Development and Integration of Biomass and Concentrating Photovoltaic System for Rural and Urban Areas Utkarsh Agrawal, Nihit Pingala, Gaurav Ishan, T. Nageshwara Prasad, Rajeshkumar Muthu, Rani Chinnappa Naidu 2022 7th International Conference on Environment Friendly Energies and Applications Renewable and Sustainable Energy Systems Hybrid Transportation Systems Energy Transition and Energy Security Efea 2022 Proceedings, 2022 N on-renewable sources of energy and agriculture have always been of utmost importance to mankind. From providing food to meeting industrial requirements like coal, charcoal, crop, manure, forest residues, and firewood, agriculture has been a major need for rural areas and developing countries that depend on non-renewable sources of energy. To help and promote these countries socially, technologically, and economically, decentralization should be emphasized. This would increase their participation in issues on a global level. In this project, the aim is to develop a photovoltaic system and a biomass system using Simulink, to generate energy to meet the above-mentioned requirements.
