Epidemiology of dengue hemorrhagic fever in Manado City: 2015-2020 Odi Roni Pinontoan, Grace Debbie Kandou, Oksfriani Jufri Sumampouw, Jeini Ester Nelwan Bali Medical Journal, 2024 Link of Video Abstract: https://youtu.be/7n3AouxhDVk Introduction: Dengue hemorrhagic fever (DHF) is a disease caused by the dengue virus transmitted through the bite of Aedes aegypti and Aedes albopictus mosquitoes. DHF is still a significant health problem in Indonesia, especially in Manado. This study aimed to analyze the epidemiology trend of dengue hemorrhagic fever in Manado City in 2015-2020. Methods: This ecological research was conducted in Manado City from February to July 2023. This research used secondary data from the Manado Health Office. Data analysis was carried out univariately. Results: This study showed that since 2011-currently, four peaks of dengue fever were found, namely in 2012 (308 cases), 2016 (521 cases), 2019 (589 cases), and 2022 (598 cases). The prevalence of dengue cases decreased significantly in 2016-2017 and 2019-2020, with the lowest decrease occurring in 2019-2020. Furthermore, it was found that the distribution of dengue fever in Manado City in 2015-2020 based on sex increased in 2016 and 2019 and, decreased in 2017 and 2020, and was more dominant in the male sex. The highest distribution of dengue fever in Manado City in 2015-2020 was found in the age group of 6-11 years, followed by 0-5 years. Conclusions: It can be concluded that the prevalence of DHF in Manado City fluctuates every year, mainly in Mapanget and Malalayang subdistricts; most sufferers are male and aged 6-11 years.
The variability of temperature, rainfall, humidity and prevalance of dengue fever in Manado City Odi Roni Pinontoan, Oksfriani Jufri Sumampouw, Jansje Ticoalu, Jeini Ester Nelwan, Ester Cendrawati Musa, Joy Sekeeon Bali Medical Journal, 2022 Background: Dengue hemorrhagic fever (DHF) was one of infectious diseases that is still a concern in Indonesia, especially the Manado city. This study aimed to analyze the variability of temperature, rainfall, humidity, and the incidence of DHF in Manado city 2011-2020.Method: This ecological research used secondary data obtained from the Health Office and the Central Bureau of Statistics of the Manado City. The variables studied were air temperature, humidity, rainfall and the incidence of DHF in Manado city 2011-2020.Result: in 2016 there were 567 cases of dengue fever and the highest was in the Malalayang sub-district and the lowest was in the Ranomut sub-district. In 2017 there was a significant decrease to 139 cases, the highest in Malalayang sub-district with 32 cases, and the lowest in Bunaken sub-district with 1 case. In 2018, there was an increase in cases by 294 cases, the highest was in the Malalayang sub-district. The air temperature continues to fluctuate where based on the trendline it is found that the air temperature tends to increase. Whereas, the humidity tends to decrease. The rainfall in the city of Manado continues to fluctuate, where based on the trendline it is found that rainfall tends to decrease. Mosquitoes are cold-blooded animals and their metabolic processes or life cycles depend on the environment's temperature. The DHF cases continue to fluctuate (up and down) where based on the trendline it is found that DHF cases tend to decreaseConclusion: In the period 2011-2020 in Manado City, air temperature tends to increase but rainfall, humidity, and cases of DHF tend to decrease.
A structural model of Mapalus culture, health behavior and coronary artery disease incidence in the Minahasa ethnic community in North Sulawesi Province Jeini Ester Nelwan, Oksfriani Jufri Sumampouw, Adisti Aldegonda Rumayar, Franckie Maramis, Odi Roni Pinontoan, Ester Musa, Jansje Ticoalu, Edi Widjajanto Bali Medical Journal, 2022 Introduction: Coronary artery disease (CAD) is a disease that has caused death across the world, including in Indonesia. CAD is a multifactorial disease. Many studies have been conducted to examine the causes of CAD. Based on previous research, the risk factors questioned are fixed and nonfixed risk factors. Fixed risk factors include age, gender and family history. Nonfixed risk factors include smoking habits, blood cholesterol levels, behavioral types, socioeconomic status and cultural factors, among others. The purpose of this study is to find a structural model of the influence of Mapalus culture and health behavior on the incidence of CAD in the Minahasa ethnic group in North Sulawesi Province. Method: This research is a case-control research type that uses 220 respondents (110 case and 110 control respondents). The variables studied were Mapalus culture (ethos and principles) and health behavior (smoking habits, knowledge of CAD, healthy behavior and sickness behavior) as independent variables and CAD incidence as the dependent variable. Data analysis used pathway analysis by employing GeSCA software. Result: The results of this study indicate that Mapalus culture and health behavior influence the occurrence of CAD. The influence of Mapalus culture will be stronger/greater if it interacts with health behavior. Conclusion: Based on the results of this study, control must be exercised on smoking habits, increasing knowledge about CAD and having a healthy lifestyle.
Socioeconomic factors associated with diarrhea among under-five children in Manado Coastal Area, Indonesia OksfrianiJufri Sumampouw, JeiniEster Nelwan, AdistiAldegonda Rumayar Journal of Global Infectious Diseases, 2019 BACKGROUND: Diarrhea is a condition where individuals experience defecation as much as 3 or more per day with a soft consistency. Diarrhea in children is one of the environmentally-based diseases, and Manado is one of the cities faced with this environmental lead diarrhea problems. The purpose of this study is to analyze the influence of socioeconomic factors on the occurrence of diarrhea among under-five children in the coastal area of Manado city. MATERIALS AND METHODS: A cross-sectional study design was conducted in August 2017. The numbers of respondents were a total of 120 mothers or caregivers with children under five who suffered from diarrhea in the coastal area of Manado. The respondent candidates were selected from the community health center's records of the diarrhea program and further selected by the inclusion/exclusion criteria. The characteristics of mothers and family income were used as indicators of socioeconomic factors. All of the respondents were questioned about the occurrence of their child's diarrhea that they had experienced in the previous 6 months. A structured and well-designed questionnaire was used to obtain data, which were related to sociodemographic, economic, and diarrhea. Generalized structured component analysis in GeSCA software was applied for data analysis. RESULTS: The findings of this study showed significant influence from socioeconomic factors on diarrhea incidence in under-five children (critical ratio = 2.74). In other words, as socioeconomic factors improve, the incidence of diarrhea decreases (B = -0.246). The characteristics of the mother are the indicator of the highest influence (loading value = 0.846). CONCLUSIONS: This study identified that the socioeconomic factors are influencing the diarrhea incidence among children under five in the coastal area of Manado city. Thus, to minimize a childhood diarrheal disease, socioeconomic factors are considered when promoting health and community empowerment among the coastal communities of Manado city.
