Characterization of Al/SiC and Al/TiB2 Metal Matrix Composites Senthil Kumar, Ambigalla Reema, Padma Rao Aip Conference Proceedings, 2024 Aluminium metal matrix composite made their impression in various applications because of their higher mechanical and physical properties along with high strength to weight ratio. The Al LM-25 weight percentage of SiC Metal Matrix Composite is fabricated by using a stir casting method. Effect of SiC reinforcement in AL LM-25 alloy particularly mechanical properties like hardness test, tensile strength test, impact test, density index test, metallographic studies are carried out at various reinforcement of Sic with 3%, 6% and 9% variations in weight percentage are considered for experimental analysis. The integration of both materials can offer excellent characteristics compared to the material individually considered along with Al alloys. Main aim is to carried out the difference between aluminium with TiB2 and aluminium with SiC at 9% weight percentage.
Mechanical Characterization of Curaua Fiber/Babool Wood Particle Reinforced Polyester Hybrid Composite R. Suthan, A. Padma Rao, P.Babu Aurtherson, Sujin Jose Arul, K. Ajan, D.S. Jenaris Current Materials Science, 2024 Background: The researchers are in the situation to satisfy the demand for engineering materials by developing novel eco-friendly materials. The natural fiber composites are the substitutes for the synthetic material. Introduction: The mechanical properties of curaua fiber-reinforced polyester (CFRP) composites were investigated, as well as the effects of curaua fibre infusion with Babool Wood particles (BWP). Methods: The composite specimens were fabricated using a hand lay-up approach using varying amounts of curaua fibres (CF) and babool wood particles in a 1:1 ratio in order to test the tensile strength and flexural strength. Results: The results demonstrated that before weakening, the tensile strength and flexural strength of the composite samples rose by up to 40% for hybrid reinforcements. Comparing samples made of pure resin to those made of the composite at 40 weight percent (CF20/BWP20), the tensile and bending strengths of the composite are improved by 93.42% and 86.4%, respectively. Conclusion: The tensile and flexural modulus values of the hybrid composites increased by up to 50% fiber, but less successfully (CF25 and BWP25). The fracture mechanism of the shattered composite samples was examined using scanning electron microscopy.
Lattice Boltzmann Simulation of a Single Nucleating Bubble on a Horizontal Surface Saritha Gaddam, K. Prashanth Reddy, A. Padma Rao, A. Akshitha Aip Conference Proceedings, 2022 The present era of micro and nano-electronics demands the need for augmentation of heat transfer from the flow devices, which vitally depends on the nucleate boiling parameters. Nucleate boiling is one of the significant phenomena can be studied numerically for understanding the corresponding parametric effects. This paper presents the validation of integrated force scheme using thermal Lattice Boltzmann method and a parametric analysis is performed for understanding various effects for efficient design of the micro heaters. A Pseudopotential Lattice Boltzmann model for high density is developed. The Peng-Robinson Equation of state (PREoS) and Exact Difference (EDM) force scheme is implemented in this model to simulate the nucleate boiling of water under constant at a saturation temperature of 583K..The code is being validated and found to be in congruence with the p correlations developed to estimate departure diameter (D) from a horizontal heated surface, due to gravity force (g) as D∝ g−0.52 and the bubble release period (f−1) varies under the action of gravity as f−1∝g−0.729. The nucleation, growth, departure and frequency of bubble departure was studied. The different parametric effects such as, heat flux, Nusselt number of nucleate boiling on the bubble departure process were analysed based on the variation of wall contact angles (hydrophilic and hydrophobic), and superheat of micro-heater. Consequently, it is observed that the superheat temperature of the micro-heater is significantly increased.
Effect of Ceramic Nano Fillers in Jute Fibre Composites A. Padma Rao, Ananda Mohan Vemula, M. Prakash Babu, P. Senthil Kumar, V. Murali Krishna, Perumalla Janaki Ramulu Advances in Materials Science and Engineering, 2022 The demand and applications of bolstered plastics such as natural, attainable, biodegradable, and fibres were developing worldwide in industries beginning from home utilities to aerospace applications. The high cost and weight of synthetic fibres were bolstered by a multitude of concerns. Subsequently, it is far vital to create a natural fibre combination with a matrix to accumulate the most efficient common presentation. In this present study, a composite is made of a natural fibre (jute) reinforced with vinyl ester resin with and without a filler (SiO2). Untreated jute fibres are utilised as reinforcement, while filler materials were used to increase the characteristics of jute fibre and analyse the impact of filler material in the composite. The produced composite was tested for tensile strength, compressive strength, flexural strength, and hardness. The SEM study of the fracture surface was also evaluated in the present study. Filler-mixed composites have a 50 percent higher tensile strength than those without fillers, and the remaining attributes have enhanced by at least 5 to 10%. From analysis, filler-mixed composites hold a good mechanical property due to fibre-filler bonding with the help of vinyl ester resin.
Potentiodynamic Corrosion Behavior and Microstructural Characteristics of Pulsed CMT-Welded AA2014-T6 Aluminium Alloy Joints: Effect of PWHT A. Padma Rao, Manzoor Hadi, C. Rajendran, Sonar Tushar, Mikhail Ivanov, P. Senthil Kumar, V. Murali Krishna Advances in Materials Science and Engineering, 2022 AA2014-T6 is an Al-Cu-Mg-based precipitation-hardened aluminium alloy widely used in aerospace due to its high strength to weight ratio. This alloy is joined by a pulsed cold metal transfer (PCMT) arc welding process to overcome the high heat input related problems in gas metal arc welding (GMAW) such as a coarser dendritic structure in the fusion zone (FZ), wider heat affected zone (HAZ), solidification and HAZ liquation cracking, softening in HAZ, and poor corrosion resistance of welded joints in salt environment. The joints were subjected to PWHT of artificial aging (AA), solution treatment (ST), and solution treatment + aging (STA) conditions. The corrosion rate was determined using a potentiodynamic corrosion test in a solution of 3.56 wt.% NaCl with pH values of 4, 7, and 11. Results disclosed that the PCMT joints subjected to the potentiodynamic corrosion test in NaCl solution of pH-4, pH-7, and pH-11 disclosed very low, moderate, and extremely high pitting corrosion, respectively. The corrosion resistance of ST joints was improved by 53.34%, 15%, and 15.12% in pH-4, pH-7, and pH-11 NaCl solution compared to as-welded joints. The pitting potential of ST joints is comparable to BM. The BM showed the pitting potential of −175, −450, and −550 mV in pH-4, pH-7, and pH-11 NaCl solution. The ST joints showed 75.29%, 29.16%, and 27.85% lower corrosion potential compared to STA joints in pH-4, pH-7, and pH-11 NaCl solution, respectively. The ST joints disclosed the lower pitting potential of −105, −425, and −505 mV in pH-4, pH-7, and pH-11 NaCl solution, respectively, whereas the STA joints revealed greater pitting potential of −425, −600, and −700 mV in pH-4, pH-7, and pH-11 NaCl solution, respectively. The superior corrosion resistance of ST joints compared to AA and STA joints is attributed to the dissolution of precipitates in Al solid solution resulting in a lower potential difference in FZ. This minimizes the preferential sites for pitting corrosion to occur.
Modelling, Analysis and Development of Progressive Die for Seat Rail A. Padma Rao, Manzoor Hadi E3s Web of Conferences, 2021 Progressive dies are highly used in batch productions where product variety is low. The progressive die is also called follow on die. It performs series of basic sheet metal operations. There are two or more stations and work piece is gradually shaped to final product through passing each of these stations. The ‘progression’ (advance or pitch) is linear travel of the strip stock at each press stroke and it is equal to the infestation distance. In the present paper an attempt is made to develop a new progressive die, which used in making seat rail of an automotive four-wheeler vehicle of Toyota, to optimize the use of material. So, the cost of progressive die reduces without losing its quality. For modelling CATIA and for analysis ANSYS are used.
