Solar Selectivity of Silver Nanoparticles Modified Copper Oxide Nanocomposite Thin Films Prepared by Facile Chemical Oxidation Method Inbasekaran Vijay Arasu, Santhanakrishnan Suresh, Karuppiah Kathiresan, Nalandhiran Pugazhenthiran, Tahani Awad Alahmadi, Perumal Rameshkumar, Senthuran Karthick Kumar, Krishnaswamy Muthuchelian Chemistryselect, 2024 Silver nanoparticles modified copper oxide nanocomposite thin films (Ag‐CuO NC TFs) and pristine CuO TF were successfully synthesized on copper substrates using a chemical oxidation route. X‐ray diffractometry (XRD) characterization of Ag‐CuO NC TFs revealed the formation of monoclinic crystal structured CuO. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) images showed a star‐like grain morphology of the Ag‐CuO NC TFs. Energy dispersive X‐ray spectroscopy (EDX) analysis ascertained the presence of anticipated elements without impurities. Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) investigation confirmed the presence of Ag NPs on CuO in the Ag‐CuO NC TFs. Raman spectroscopy examination indicated the presence of a spinel structure with vibrational and tetrahedral sites. UV‐Vis‐NIR reflectance analysis demonstrated that Ag‐CuO NC TFs with 2.0 wt.% Ag NPs exhibited solar absorptance of 72.39 %, thermal emittance of 4.3 %, and a highest solar selectivity of 16.83 among the prepared thin films. These results suggest that the Ag‐CuO NC TFs could be promising candidates for use as solar selective absorbers in solar thermal energy conversion devices.
Solar to Thermal Energy Conversion Potential of Carbon Nanotubes Modified Copper Oxide Nanocomposite Thin Film Solar Selective Absorbers Karanthamalai Vinayagar, Senthuran Karthick Kumar, Abdulrahman I. Almansour, Krishnamoorthy Sivaramasundaram, Jayaraj Selvi, Nalandhiran Pugazhenthiran, Muthusamy Kandasamy, Krishnasamy Muthuchelian, Santhanakrishnan Suresh Chemistryselect, 2024 Carbon nanotubes modified copper oxide nanocomposite (CNTs–CuO NC) selective absorbers were prepared through a sol‐gel method by varying weight percentage of CNTs and coated on aluminum (Al) substrates using a dip coating technique to form thin films (TFs). The surface morphology of CNTs–CuO NC TF examined by scanning electron microscopy disclosed linear arrangement of CNTs–CuO NC TF with average particle diameter of 200±30 nm. The X‐ray diffractometer analysis of the CNTs–CuO NC TF revealed the presence of CuO in monoclinic crystal structure. Moreover, the X‐ray diffractometer analysis disclosed good crystalline quality of the CNTs–CuO NC TF and average crystallite size of the CuO and CNTs–CuO NC TF was found to be 69.38 and 85.94 nm, respectively. The energy dispersive X‐ray spectrum of CNTs–CuO NC TF ascertained the presence of Cu, O and C elements with atomic weight proportion of 71.07, 21.61 and 7.32 %, respectively. The functional groups investigation by FTIR spectroscopy exhibited distinct spectral features of CNTs and the peaks observed at 516.78 and 588.70 cm−1 correspond to the characteristic vibrations of metal‐oxygen (M−O) bond that indicates the presence of CuO in the hybrid CNTs‐CuO NC TF. The optical property of the CNTs–CuO NC TF with CNTs weight proportion of 0.5 % inspected through UV‐Vis‐NIR spectroscopy exhibited high solar absorptance and thermal emittance values of 85.9 and 4.3 %, respectively. The observed highest solar selectivity value of 19.98 suggests that the CNTs–CuO NC TF coating can be apparently used as solar selective absorber.

Cow dung extract as a low-cost and natural sensitizer for zinc oxide nanoparticles photoanode based dye-sensitized solar cell: A novel initiative for waste to energy conversion S. Suresh, K.M. Murugesan Results in Chemistry, 2023 Cow dung extracts are prepared using ethanol and methanol as solvents. Electronic absorption spectra of cow dung extracts have exhibited wide absorption in UV and visible region between 300 and 730 nm. The absorption of cow dung extracts showed variations in intensity and absorption peaks at different wavelengths, which can be attributed to presence of diverse photosynthetic pigments corresponding to polarity of applied solvents. The observed pigments of chlorophyll a, chlorophyll b and carotenoids in the cow dung extracts can be ascribed to the feeding behavior of the cow. The FTIR and UV-vis absorption results disclosed that the sensitization of ZnO photoanode is mainly due to the chlorophylls present in the cow dung extract. The methyl group in the chlorophyll molecules from an ideal bond with ZnO nanoparticles that enables transfer of electrons from chlorophyll molecules to ZnO conduction band. The solar cells sensitized with cow dung extract in methanol has delivered highest energy conversion efficiency of 0.102%, which could be ascribed to presence of relatively a greater number of photosynthetic pigments.
