THE IMPACT OF DIESEL AND VARIOUS BLENDS OF BIODIESEL ON PERFORMANCE, EMISSIONS, AND COMBUSTION IN DI DIESEL ENGINES K. Секхаррадж, П. Балу, A. Гіріпрасат, C. Ратінасуріян, Г. Дідківська Vidnovluvana Energetika, 2026 The increasing demands for sustainable energy and stringent emission regulations have prompted the exploration of alternative fuels in internal combustion engines. This study investigates the effects of conventional diesel and various biodiesel blends on the performance, emission, and combustion characteristics of direct injection (DI) diesel engines. The study aims to identify the most suitable biodiesel blend that can serve as a viable alternative to conventional diesel fuel, providing high engine efficiency with reduced environmental impact. The rise in consumption, environmental emissions, and the cost of petrol make the energy recovery from trash a top priority. Not only can biodiesel meet energy demands, but it can also reduce greenhouse gas emissions, making it an important source of renewable energy. An experimental study of diesel and many different biodiesel blends was conducted to analyse their performance, emissions, and combustion characteristics. To prepare the emulsified fuel and go on with further experimental work, this effort aimed to identify the optimal biodiesel blends. The results of this paper showed that among all other biodiesel blends with various compositions, Syzygy Cumini (SC) biodiesel 20% by volume with diesel (SC20) was the best mix. Based on the outcomes of performance, combustion, and emission metrics, it was selected. Overall, SC20 biodiesel was identified as the optimal blend, offering a promising balance between engine performance, combustion stability, and lower exhaust emissions, thus supporting its potential use in existing diesel engines without modifications.
INVESTIGATION ON ABRASIVE WATER JET DRILLING HOLE FEATURES OF UHMWPE K. SUBRAMANI, C. RATHINASURIYAN Surface Review and Letters, 2025 Ultra-high molecular-weight polyethylene (UHMWPE) is one of the most extensively utilized supporting materials inside total knee replacement (TKR) because of its combination of outstanding mechanical qualities and wear resistance. The integrity of the hole is an essential component for fastening the femur and tibia elements in knee replacements. Due to its viscoelasticity behavior, it often causes difficulties such as rapid tool wear, burr formation, and poor finish in conventional machining operations, which causes poor hole features. Since unconventional methods are currently being investigated for drilling UHMWPE. Abrasive water jet drilling (AWJD) is particularly promising for handling hard-to-machine materials, and AWJ drilling of UHMWPE materials demands focus on it. The focus of this research is to determine the importance of AWJD variables for UHMWPE. In this experiment, 64 holes, each with a diameter of 10[Formula: see text]mm, were drilled into the sample material using a complete factorial approach to evaluation. Abrasive water jet pressure (AWJP) (210, 260, 310, and 360[Formula: see text]MPa), abrasive mass flow rate (AMFR) (250, 300, 350, and 400[Formula: see text]g/min.), and traverse rate (TR) (150, 300, 450, and 600[Formula: see text]mm/min.) were all taken into account. Furthermore, the geometrical properties of the hole, such as hole diameter (entry and exit), circularity, perpendicularity, and cylindricity, were investigated. The outcomes identified that both AWJP and TR played significant roles in determining the geometric features of the hole. During the drilling operation, the material removal mechanism and the hole defects were observed and identified using scanning electron microscopy (SEM).
INFLUENCE OF COOLING MEDIUM ON MICROSTRUCTURE AND MECHANICAL PROPERTIES IN FRICTION STIR PROCESSING OF MAGNESIUM ALLOY - A REVIEW C. RATHINASURIYAN, R. SANKAR, M. PUVIYARASAN, V. S. SENTHIL KUMAR, K. PALANIKUMAR Surface Review and Letters, 2025 Friction stir processing (FSP) is used for changing the microstructure and material properties improvement. In modern years, special attention is exposed by governing the temperature level, and is applied by various coolants spraying on the top surface of the sample during FSP. This review paper explores the impact of several cooling mediums such as normal water, cold water, hot water, and cryogenic on the temperature distribution, grain refinement, mechanical characteristics, and superplastic deformation behavior of FSP using various grades of magnesium (Mg) alloys. It also includes the corrosion rate and wear behavior of FSP on Mg alloys. Through the systematic review, it has been observed that refined grains were formed and the generation of intermetallic compounds was suppressed after FSP in underwater and cryogenic conditions, leading to a notable increase in strength. The higher tensile strength and elongation are exhibited while using cryogenic compared to water medium. This is due to a rapid cooling process, where the high temperature was short for the newly-formed grains to fully develop. This review not only concludes the key findings of the preceding research but also suggests future recommendations.
