The batch of detonation nanodiamond (DB) containing impurities of B (DB-B) was obtained by explosion using TNT with hexagon (50/50). This DB-B contained 0.96 wt% of B. The obtained DB-B nanopowder's morphological features, texture, and mesostructure were investigated by SEM, SAXS, and low-temperature nitrogen adsorption. We tested both aqueous suspensions and silica sols containing 2.5 wt. % DND and 0.05-0.1 wt. % of DB-B for the pre-sowing treatment of Chinese cabbage seeds. As a result, the reliable positive effect of an aqueous suspension of DB-B (0.05-0.1 wt.%) was revealed on the following characteristics of seedlings (in relation to the control): the germination energy of Chinese cabbage seeds and germination increased by ~50-70%. Furthermore, a significant positive effect of DB-B on the morphological characteristics of Peking cabbage plants at the early stages of its development was revealed when using DB-B for pre-sowing seed treatment in combination with silica sol (an increase in the sprout length by ~ 20% and root length by ~ 50% in relation to the control) as well as the biomass of Chinese cabbage plants increased by ~ 100% (20 days after planting the treated seeds).

Although water contamination with drug residues is a threat to public health, there are currently barely any effective methods of purifying water from pharmaceutical substances. In this study, continuous-flow sonoplasma treatment was used for the complete degradation of tetracycline and ciprofloxacin in polluted municipal water. The addition of CeO2 nanoparticles as catalysts significantly increased the degradation rate of the antibiotics, and a degradation degree of 70% was achieved. The presence of reactive oxygen species in the CeO2-nanoparticle-containing sonoplasma-treated system was experimentally proven for the first time using the chemiluminescence technique.

A BSTRACT Magnetite (Fe 3 O 4 ) and maghemite with an admixture of hematite ( γ -Fe 2 O 3 / α -Fe 2 O 3 ) powders are synthesized via sol-gel process and characterized using XRD, SEM, low temperature nitrogen adsorption, small-angle X-ray scattering (SAXS) and small-angle polarized neutron scattering (SAPNS). The synthesized γ -Fe 2 O 3 / α -Fe 2 O 3 and Fe 3 O 4 samples are found to be porous systems featuring with a three-level hierarchi-cally organized structure with different intrinsic scales and aggregation types for each of the structural levels. For both materials, the intrinsic size of the highest level exceeds 70 nm, and magnetic structure involves superparamagnetic particles with a characteristic radius of magnetic-nuclear cross-correlations R MN ≈ 3 nm. The biological activity of γ -Fe 2 O 3 / α -Fe 2 O 3 and Fe 3 O 4 aqueous suspensions in certain concentrations in respect to seed treatment, growth and productivity of plants was studied using the example of spring barley variety Leningradsky under adjustable favorable conditions and physical modeling of stress effects (irradiation with high-intensity UV-B radiation, soil moisture deficiency). iron coil a coil. A method is proposed for the preparation of stable sols of nanocrystalline cerium dioxide in nonpolar solvents, based on surface modification of CeO2 nanoparticles obtained by thermal hydrolysis of concentrated aqueous solutions of ammonium cerium(IV) nitrate with residues of 2-ethylhexanoic and octanoic acids. The synthesis was carried out at temperatures below 100 °C and did not require the use of expensive and toxic reagents. An assessment of the radical-scavenging properties of the obtained sols using the superoxide anion-radical neutralization model revealed that they demonstrate notable antioxidant activity. The results obtained indicate the potential of the nanoscale cerium dioxide sols in nonpolar solvents to be used for creating nanobiomaterials possessing antioxidant properties.

A modern level of nanotechnology allows us to create conceptually new test systems for chemical analyses and to develop sensitive and compact sensors for various types of substances. However, at present, there are very few commercially available compact sensors for the determination of toxic and carcinogenic substances, such as organic solvents that are used in some construction materials. This article contains an overview of how 3D photonic crystals are used for the creation of a new test system for nonpolar organic solvents. The morphology and structural parameters of the photonic crystals, based upon a crystalline colloidal array with a sensing matrix of polydimethylsiloxane, have been determined by using scanning electron microscopy and by the results of specular reflectance spectroscopy based on the Bragg–Snell law. A new approach has been proposed for the application of this sensor in chemical analysis for the qualitative detection of saturated vapors of volatile organic compounds due to configuration changes of the photonic bandgap, recorded by diffuse reflectance spectroscopy. The exposure of the sensor to aromatic (benzene, toluene and p-xylene) and aliphatic (n-pentane, n-heptane, n-octane and n-decane) hydrocarbons has been analyzed. The reconstitution of spectral parameters of the sensor during the periodic detection of saturated vapors of toluene has been evaluated.

The deposition of calcium fluoride nanoparticles on single crystal chips of calcium fluoride was studied. CaF2 nanoparticles were synthesized by co-precipitation from aqueous nitrate solutions using hydrofluoric acid as a fluorinating agent at a batch system. The prepared samples were examined by atomic force microscopy, scanning electron microscopy, transmission electron microscopy and optical transmission. There is an inhomogeneous coating of the substrate surface with submicron particles of about 100–150 nm in size, which are clusters of nanoparticles of 15-20 nm in size. The initial nanoparticles coherently grow on the surface of the crystal substrate. Heat treatment of the substrate-deposited layer composite at 600 °C leads to the coalescence of submicron particles and the formation of a porous layer of a complex structure.

Controlled self-assembly and rapid disintegration of supramolecular nanowires is potentially useful for ecology-friendly organic electronics. Herein, a novel method exploiting the binding between crown-substituted double-decker lanthanide phthalocyaninates (ML2, M = Lu, Ce, Tb) and K+ ions is applied for the one-step fabrication of macroscopically long conductive one-dimensional quasi-metal-organic frameworks. Their properties are controlled by the size of the lanthanide ion guiding the assembly through either intra- or intermolecular interactions. A LuL2 linker with a small interdeck distance yields fully conjugated intermolecular-bonded K+-LuL2 nanowires with a thickness of 10-50 nm, a length of up to 50 μm, and a conductivity of up to 11.4 S cm-1, the highest among them being reported for phthalocyanine assemblies. The large size of CeL2 and TbL2 leads to the formation of mixed intra- and intermolecular K+-ML2 phases with poor electric properties. A field-assisted method is developed to deposit aligned conductive K+-LuL2 assemblies on solids. The solid-supported nanowires can be disintegrated into starting components in a good aprotic solvent for further recycling.

Flexible materials, such as fabric, paper and plastic, with nanoscale particles that possess antimicrobial properties have a significant potential for the use in the healthcare sector and many other areas. The development of new antimicrobial coating formulations is an urgent topic, as such materials could reduce the risk of infection in hospitals and everyday life. To select the optimal composition, a comprehensive analysis that takes into account all the advantages and disadvantages in each specific case must be performed. In this study, we obtained an antimicrobial textile with a 100% suppression of E. coli on its surface. These CeO2 nanocoatings exhibit low toxicity, are easy to manufacture and have a high level of antimicrobial properties even at very low CeO2 concentrations. High-power ultrasonic treatment was used to coat the surface of cotton fabric with CeO2 nanoparticles.

The removal of acidic sulfur-containing components [hydrogen sulfide (H2S) and alkanethiols or thiols (RSH)] from simulated mixtures and analogues of gasoline fractions with Zn(II), Cu(II), Co(II), and Ni(II) acetates, pivalates, and malonates applied on silica gel with various porosities under ultrasonic treatment in solution has been studied. The dependence of the adsorption of H2S and RSH on the surface of silica gel modified by metal complexes with organic ligands on various factors (the pore size of the silica gel, the time of ultrasonic treatment, and the nature of carboxylate complexes) is established. The best results for the removal of total sulfur from the model mixture and an analogue of the gasoline fraction were obtained using silica gel modified with zinc pivalate (96%) and cobalt pivalate (95%). A waste-free method to desulfurize fuel with zinc pivalate based on the production of practically useful ZnS is suggested.
